How many of you are Needtobreathe fans out there?! We sure are and are even moreso after this conversation with Bear Rinehart and his wise, wonderful wife, Mary (who also happens to be a therapist). We can’t wait for you to listen and let’s do it again. We’d love to hear your favorite either Needtobreathe OR Wilder Woods song below! And…if you’re not familiar yet with Wilder Woods, you’ll have to listen in on this conversation for more info! We loved getting to sit and have a conversation with two people we have loved and admired for so long, Andi and Charlie Peacock Ashworth. In fact, we were both attending a Bible study in their home (which we’ll talk about) before we knew them or each other, way back in our 20’s, along with all of the other 20 and 30 and 40-something year old’s in Nashville. We have learned so much from these two, as they have invited us in to so many conversations over the years, whether those conversations took place through books or music or in person. We can’t wait for you to listen in and learn from them, too, as we talk about music, the family table, and their new book, Why Everything That Doesn’t Matter, Matters So Much. And, by the way, these two are a husband and wife creative powerhouse team, having authored and co-authored books, blogs and so many songs you know and love.  . . . . . Russell Dickerson burst onto the country music scene with four consecutive chart-topping singles on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart. You’ve likely heard his music already with songs like “Yours,” “Blue Tacoma,” “Every Little Thing,” “Love You Like I Used To,” “She Likes It,” “God Gave Me A Girl,” and many others. What you may not know is that you’ve likely heard his wife, too—who is a part of our beloved That Sounds Fun Network family with her podcast, Coffee with Kailey. Ever since we started dreaming up the Music City Series, we talked about how much we wanted to interview our friend, Holly Williams Coleman. She is a phenomenally talented artist in her own right as an acclaimed singer/songwriter. She is ALSO a retail entrepreneur and owner of White’s Mercantile, with 5 locations. She is ALSO a serial house renovator. She is ALSO married to artist/musician Chris Coleman, mom to four adorable littles. AND she’s one of the kindest people we know. (She also happens to be music royalty, which you’ll hear more about in the episode.) Holly is hilarious, brilliant, and a true delight to talk with. We can’t wait for you to listen in on this conversation with our friend Holly Willams Coleman. . . . . . A 9 time GRAMMY nominee—a 5 time Dove Award Female vocalist of the year, 500 million streams and multiple #1 albums and singles on the Billboard Charts. But, more than that, she is truly one of the kindest, most encouraging people you will ever meet. We LOVED our conversation with the delightful Natalie Grant. We can’t wait for you to listen as she talks about parenting teens, singing for the president and her life-changing work at Hope for Justice. Natalie, we are so grateful for the difference you’re making in this world in so many ways and are confident you’ll be encouraged and inspired by this rich conversation! Also…go listen to her new album, Seasons and her duets with Dolly, Cece, and so many of our favorites!  If you enjoyed this episode on raising teens, we also have a Spotify Playlist we've put together with past episodes where we talked about parenting teenagers. . . . . . The song has been ringing through the rafters of Hopetown already this summer, as it does every year. It’s one of our kids’ favorites. They have hand motions and have the best time reminding themselves and each other of these words of truth. “My lighthouse, I will trust the promise. You will carry me safe to shore.” The song is My Lighthouse from Rend Collective and we would highly recommend you listen to it with the kids in your life. AND, we’re thrilled that our new friend Ali Gilkeson has written a children’s book based on the song. We can’t wait for you to listen in on this rich conversation about her new book, homeschooling, bus schooling, and the power of worship for kids!  Find on Ali on Instagram. Sissy had one of her favorite experiences of the past few years with this week’s guest Dwan Hill and his delightful wife, Laura. They didn’t have a chance to meet that night, but Sissy was immediately a fan—of Dwan, of his music, and of the wonderful work he is doing through The Choir Room. Sissy and David have been wanting to have Dwan and Laura on the podcast ever since! Dwan is a 3x GRAMMY award-winning, 2x Dove award-winning, 2X ASCAP Rhythm and Soul award winner, songwriter, producer, musician, writer, and church leader based in Nashville. He and Laura have two adorable children, Tobin and Nyla. We’re so excited to share this conversation with these two amazing people and have a feeling you’ll be just as big of fans as these two as we are!  Joy (feat. We are over the MOON about our first podcast episode of our Music City Series this summer with…(drumroll please) HILLARY and CHRIS TYRRELL!!! Y’all—we laughed and cried and had the best conversation with these two thoughtful, amazing, huge-hearted human beings. You know @hillaryscottla from one of our favorite bands of all time @ladya or from her music with her family, The Scott Family, which we love as well. But if you don’t yet know her brilliant and also insanely talented husband Chris Tyrell, you are in for a treat! We can’t wait for you to get to hear this conversation about parenting, finding hope in this world, tacos (of course) and make sure to listen for Sissy Goff’s most embarrassing moment! . . . . . It’s finally HERE!!!! Season 2 of the Music City Series! Y’all! We can’t even believe the talent and the wisdom and the hope and brilliance of every single guest. Between the artists, songwriters and musicians we interviewed, there were more Grammy’s, Dove Awards and number one hit singles than we could count. We had conversations about songwriting with Taylor Swift, touring with Adele, performing for the President, meeting Dolly Parton, being complimented by Paul McCartney, sharing the stage with CeCe Winans, selling out arenas, and swimming in Waylon Jenning’s swimming pool, just to name a few. We talked about the joys and challenges of parenting kids in different stages, introducing kids to music, and folding worship in to the family. You don’t want to miss these fantastic conversations with fascinating friends. We’d love to know who you’re hoping (or guessing from the description) might be a part of Season 2!  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It is a true gift every time our lives get to intersect with the delight that are Dave and Ann Wilson. We’ve had the privilege of being on their podcast through Family Life Today several times, but FINALLY got to have them on ours AND bring them to the Daystar house! We love these two people—their vulnerability, transparency, humor and the hope they bring to us all. Thank you, Jesus, for the difference Dave and Ann are making in this world and to us. We wish there had been a camera in the car when our amazing friend and publicist Jana Muntsinger emailed to tell us Anne Lamott had said yes to being on our podcast. We lost our minds—literally, you guys. We were both screaming, “Are you kidding me?!” over and over in the car! We still can’t believe it. If you’re unfamiliar with Anne Lamott, buckle up—she is one feisty, wise, brilliant, spitfire of a human being. She might be a new (a little out of the box) voice for you, but she’s one we value deeply for the grace and humanity she brings to this world. She is a voice we quote often—in fact, if you listen to the first few minutes, we both read so many of our favorites. It is a joy to share with you one of our heroes in so many ways. . . . . . Y’all are going to LOVE this podcast! So many of you are already fans of the amazing Ben and Erin Napier, @scotsman.co and @erinapier. Okay—actually, who isn’t?! Their show, Home Town with all of its spinoffs, their passion for revitalizing small-towns, their store, Laurel Mercantile Co, his work with Scotsman Co…they are doing so many amazing things. But what you may not know is that the two of them, along with some friends, founded an organization called Osprey: Old School Parents Raising Engaged Youth. How awesome is that? Through Osprey, they’re helping all of us understand and guide our children (in the best old school way) in this world of technology. Lauren Rogers Museum of Art . . . . . We talk often about how the very best thing you can do, as a parent, is to work on your own stuff. Dr. Alison Cook is a trusted therapist and friend who is helping the world do that! Through her podcast, The Best of You and her newest book, I Shouldn’t Feel This Way, Alison helps us trade mental chaos for clarity, learn how to understand and process our emotions in healthy ways, and stop the self-defeating cycles we can all fall into. We love this book and are so grateful to have had this conversation full of so much wisdom and grace—not just for our kids, but for ourselves. . . . . . On Episode 80, we had a psychologist named Dr. Michael Thompson on the podcast to discuss the social connections of kids. He talked about the importance of summer camp for kids and said the very best part of summer camp is “that you’re not there.” Makes sense. We have talked to and witnessed the impact of camps for countless kids over the years…not just the skills learned like archery and horseback riding, but the independence and confidence gained from having opportunities they wouldn’t have had at home. Plus, a friend said recently that camp is literally the one place kids go anymore where they have no connection to technology. Hallelujah for that! On this week’s episode, we have our friends Glenn and Carter Breazeale, the owners and directors of Alpine Camp for Boys —of which we’re big fans, by the way. They talk about not only the importance of camp but how to help prepare your kids for camp this summer. So much wisdom, practical help and hope in this episode—we can’t wait for you to listen!
