In this podcast, Robert and I chat with Miguel Herrera. We tried to meet the day before this, but our schedules just didn't match up. The day after, he drives up in a small white pick-up truck. I greet him at his door and see an IV connected to him.  He seems a little weak, but you can tell he is a person that life isn't going to stop.   He tells us that this is the first time he opens up and talks about this. He gets a little emotional talking about the past. He enjoys being called a Hero. His face lights up every time he mentions it and it's for a good reason. He saved 4 people and in the process ingested filthy diesel stagnant water. As a result, he would battle sickness for a year in which the sickness claimed all of his hair.    At 58 years old, Miguel was driving behind a vehicle when he witnessed the accident. He quickly sprung into action, saved 4 children before passing out from exhaustion. Listen to Miguel "Mike" Herrera speak about the events that happened in that caliche pit on September 21, 1989 in Alton, Texas.
In this episode following the Alton Bus Crash that happened on September 21, 1989 in Alton, Texas, we talk with Survivor Alexandar Reece De Leon about what he witnessed during that tragic day. We also talk about how his life has been affected by that tragic day as well as what happened shortly after with the Lawyers from Coca-Cola.
In this podcast, we sit down with Juan P. Carmona who has helped preserve the true story of the Alton Bus Crash that happened on September 21, 1989. Join us as we interview survivors and people who were directly involved with this tragic incident.    21 junior and senior high school students died by drowning or causes related to being asphyxiated. A bottling truck collided with the school bus, causing the latter to enter a caliche pit filled with water. The driver of the truck was acquitted of negligent homicide charges. The payoffs from lawsuits compensating for the deaths of the students caused division in the Alton community.
