Enjoyed the @ypthrive impact talk. I had several takeaways from the panelists and the conversations. Most questions did not have a one size fits all solution. Everyone is unique so the journey is unique. A quick summary is below. 1. Personal development. The best investment we can make is in ourselves. Everyone had a different way about doing this. My learning has evolved over the years as a lot of my development comes from every day life. I still lean into reading and course work. We spoke about reading and the importance of ideas and perspectives. Leaders take advantage of coaching, courses, and communities to grow. My favorite book is definitely Shoe Dog. 2. Mentorship. We talked about finding mentors and also getting to a point where confident to share what we know. We discussed becoming the mentor. That said the secret is that everyone is still learning and striving. This is a life-long process regardless of industry. In fact sharing more of what we know accelerates our growth. There won't be a magic moment when this switch happens from follower to leader. The truth is you can start where you are now. 3. Life. The topic of work life balance came up and everyone agreed that family is a critical part of the journey. There will be difficult decisions to make and we all have different ways of handling. We can always do more but what are we doing with what we have? How do we make the time we have count? I pondered these questions after. What are your top ways that you develop your career? Leave your strategy in the comments. :)

Artist Norman Wyatt Jr. seems to have always been involved in the Fine Arts. As early as the second grade, he would travel once a week to the area high school to sit under the gifted art instructor, surrounded by juniors and seniors. This passion would later lead Norman to pursue Fine Art at Virginia State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications, Art and Design.  Much of Norman’s inspiration comes from his early years and past professional experiences. As a native of Virginia, Norman grew up captivated by the colors and sounds of nature. As a senior in college, Norman worked at an African-inspired gift shop, constantly surrounded by authentic sculptures, fabrics, and jewelry. After finishing college, Wyatt worked as an elementary art teacher, instructing kindergarten through fourth grade students. He would reach the imaginations of his young pupils by constantly adorning the classroom and halls with bright, energetic bulletin boards. Norman actually developed many of his signature techniques and looks during breaks from classes. ” I had a long table set up in the corner of my classroom, where I created numerous landscapes, still lifes, and abstracts, to keep myself painting. After a while, I realized that I had developed a look that was different or interesting enough to show a fine art publisher.”  Wyatt equates being an artist to a sponge, constantly absorbing everything visually, to ressurect for later use. He loves the gift of being an artist, never taking it for granted. Norman lives in Virginia with his wife and three children.  -  In 2014, Hamilton Perkins founded Hamilton Perkins Collection, an independent brand, designing and producing unique and award winning bags and accessories from recycled materials.  Hamilton Perkins Collection exists to create timeless limited edition bags made from recycled plastic water bottles, pineapple leaf fiber, and billboard vinyl. The Altruistic Capitalist looks to spark change in conversations in board rooms, offices, and schools to turn the focus from sales, profits, and returns to the impact good business can have on people and the planet. Through her interviews with prominent business leaders as well as her personal experiences in the business world, author Lynn Yap offers ways to rethink capitalism, create a positive impact, and do meaningful work. Yap looks to tackle questions like: Where do people and planet enter into the equation when businesses calculate returns? How can we turn a profit while also creating a sustainable business with positive impacts? How can companies scale impact to provide benefits to the environment and community? This book speaks to leaders, social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, and innovators who want to change the relationship between business, our people, and the planet. We can no longer rely on governments and non-profit organizations alone to solve our social and environmental problems. As we look urgently to the business world for solutions, this kinder, more mindful brand of capitalism just may provide a pathway out. https://amz.run/4te3 _ In 2014, Hamilton Perkins founded Hamilton Perkins Collection, an independent brand that designs and produces unique and award-winning bags and accessories made from recycled materials.
