Persecution is a context not a complex. On this show we talk to Čedo Ralević, a Serbian church planter and theological educator, who grew up under genuine persecution in the former Yugoslavia.Čedo was born in 1949 in Kosovo and Metohija. He was born in a communist country, under Tito's rule (who died in 1980). In the year 1964 Čedo became a Christian in 1964 through the witness of his older brother, Simo. He was baptized in 1967 in Novi Sad. From September 1970 until 1974 Čedo studied theology in Novi Sad, North Serbia. After finishing his studies he became a pastor in a small place in Macedonia. He returned to Serbia in October 1980, moving to Niš with his family, and he began a mission work of planting churches and spreading the Gospel all over South of Serbia. Čedo remains in Niš where today there are many more churches. Together with his brother Simo and son Emanuel, he founded Balkan Theological Seminary in 2013 which seeks to raise up many more gospel ministers for Serbia and beyond. Support the show (https://speaklife.org.uk/give/)
There is one question we never ask: What is sex for? Glen talks to Ed Shaw, Pastor of Emmanuel City Centre in Bristol and co-founder of Living Out. They are an organisation committed to seeing Christians living out their sexuality and identity in ways that enable all to flourish in Christ-like faithfulness. As a same sex attracted Christian, Ed encourages us to look beyond just seeking fulfillment in heterosexual marriage alone or embracing a lifestyle and identity that goes against scripture. He encourages us to embrace the better story the bible tells us about sexuality.Ed Shaw's new book, Purposeful Sexuality, can be found here: https://ivpbooks.com/purposeful-sexualityThe website Living Out can be found here: livingout.orgSpeak Life is a UK based charity that resources the church to reach the world. How can we possibly have faith in a world that is falling apart before our very eyes by a global pandemic? Are we able to move from doubt to faith? That's the question Glen Scrivener takes on as he looks at the story of the biggest doubter of them all, Thomas. This talk is also followed by a Question and Answer session led my Michael Ots.This talk was originally given for FEUER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Qkwd...Support the show (https://speaklife.org.uk/give/)
We have a deep sense of the equal value of all people no matter their age, sex, race, creed, etc. But where has this come from? And what does it mean about the difficult decisions we have to make when rationing scarce resources?Recently Lord Jonathan Sumption sparked a controversy on the BBC1 programme, The Big Questions, by saying that not all lives are equally valuable. The controversy is testimony to his unfortunate language but also to the deeply ingrained Christian sentiments we still share in the West. But when Piers Morgan tries to call out Sumption it turns out he digs a pit then falls into it.We speak far more about the originals of human rights and equality in our RESET series. Glen speaks to the Reverend Paul Blackham, vicar of St Crispin's Church in North London. In this conversation they talk about how the church responded to the pandemic. Have too many in the church been too obedient or too reckless in obeying government restrictions on worship?Support the show (https://speaklife.org.uk/give/)
