The Demography of Longevity - The 2012 Alberto Dondena Lecture. Bocconi University, 14 May 2012. Guest Speaker: James W. Vaupel (Founding Director, Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research). After discussing the history of thinking about limits to longevity, Prof. Vaupel will present empirical evidence about the remarkable improvements in life expectancy since 1840. Then he will turn to discussion of forecasting future life expectancy. Finally he will discuss policy implications of longer lives, including implications for the redistribution of work from younger to older ages.
