#gregorymaguire #booksthatmatter   It was such an honor to meet Gregory Maguire and share the love I have for his upcoming children's book - a masterpiece of literature and a work of art - Cress Watercress, illustrated by David Litchfield (Releasing March 29, 2022). Please get your copy of this beautiful book today. Share with your teacher friends, schools, and families! This is a book for everyone. You will become part of the story, and it is truly a book that matters.    https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/706375/cress-watercress-by-gregory-maguire-illustrated-by-david-litchfield/   More About Cress Watercress -   A lavishly illustrated woodland tale with a classic sensibility and modern flair—from the fertile imagination behind Wicked  Gregory Maguire turns his trademark wit and wisdom to an animal adventure about growing up, moving on, and finding community. When Papa doesn’t return from a nocturnal honey-gathering expedition, Cress holds out hope, but her mother assumes the worst. It’s a dangerous world for rabbits, after all. Mama moves what’s left of the Watercress family to the basement unit of the Broken Arms, a run-down apartment oak with a suspect owl landlord, a nosy mouse super, a rowdy family of squirrels, and a pair of songbirds who broadcast everyone’s business. Can a dead tree full of annoying neighbors, and no Papa, ever be home? In the timeless spirit of E. B. White and The Wind and the Willows—yet thoroughly of its time—this read-aloud and read-alone gem for animal lovers of all ages features an unforgettable cast that leaps off the page in glowing illustrations by David Litchfield. This tender meditation on coming-of-age invites us to flourish wherever we find ourselves. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/monarchbooks/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/monarchbooks/support

Young adult literary fiction author Philip Barker believes it is important to do something every day that scares you, even if it’s only a  little bit; it means you are pushing yourself to experience new things.  Through his writing, he aspires to provide his young readers a  different perspective, to put emotions into words so that they can hopefully feel a way that they normally wouldn’t, or even wouldn’t want to.  Philip realized in high school that he wanted to be a writer when he discovered that books have the capacity to make him think outside of the established way that was taught to him growing up in the suburbs of  Sydney, Australia. He likes to ground his stories in reality and relate them to personal experiences. It is his opinion that life itself is  amazing and story-worthy, and there are so many interesting people in the world, all things that he can harvest great writing from.  Philip believes a great story is one that has relatable and interesting characters. Everyone lives interesting lives, and getting to know people is the fun part, even with fictional characters. Having them leave their comfort zones becomes fascinating and often hilarious. To Philip,  everyone has a story to tell, and he hopes his young readers learn from his own story that life is complicated and things occur that can often  be out of their control. But how they overcome obstacles is what’s important and committing oneself to something with a goal and purpose,  like rock climbing, can help ground you.  When he isn’t writing thought-provoking fiction stories for young adults, Philip enjoys rock climbing, gardening, and watching B Grade movies. His wife, siblings, mother, and in-laws provided positive support and courage for his book and in his life. He lives in the Blue  Mountains near Sydney, NSW, Australia with his wife, two dachshunds,  Alfie and George, and a rabbit named Abby. Climb is his debut novel.  Where to Buy CLIMB: https://www.abbeydalecollective.com/where-to-buy  Phil's awesome website: https://www.abbeydalecollective.com/    Follow Philip: https://www.instagram.com/pbarke02/  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/monarchbooks/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/monarchbooks/support

Hallie Christensen grew up in a small town in Alabama surrounded by professional storytellers - her family. She received her BA in English with a minor in Italian while attending The University of Alabama and her MA in Teaching English from Faulkner University.  Her life’s background helped to influence her writing and creativity.  While growing up she attended Young Authors conferences, played in a  marching band, tried her luck as a magician, became a Junior Ranger for quite a few National Parks, and for a brief moment was a disc jockey with an eclectic taste of music spanning from The Monkees to N’SYNC.  When she isn’t writing, editing, teaching English courses, or marking-up essays, she enjoys hiking, attending rock concerts from musicians her parents’ age, staying at B&B’s, playing in a family band, and of course, reading with preferences in fantasy, contemporary, and the classics.  Hallie currently resides in northern Alabama with her husband and a  couple of cats.  Follow Hallie on social media to check out the latest: https://linktr.ee/halliechristensen --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/monarchbooks/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/monarchbooks/support
“Brown writes it all with an invigorating pace and an enjoyably understated humor that breaks through everywhere … A wise, winning story of a modern-day miracle worker.” – Kirkus Reviews   Actress/Playwright/Producer-Turned-Librarian Explores What Happens When One Ordinary, Older, Small-Town Woman Discovers She Has An Extraordinary Power – She Can Heal The Sick.    Debut Novel Examines If She Is A Miracle Worker, Demon, or Fraud – Or Whether Society Can Accept One’s Ability To Change Their Life – And The Lives Of Others.  Irmgarde Brown knows a good book when she sees one. For 28 years she had stacked shelves as a librarian. She also recognizes a good theatrical story, having written, produced, and acted in a one-woman play that toured for two years. Now she has broken into book publishing with a character-driven, plot-twisting novel that examines how society reacts to people who make major life changes and discover their true talents later in life. It also explores whether we really believe in miracles or if social media, the government, community, and the news media would distort whatever the truth really is.  Check out Irmgarde's website, follow her on social media, and sign up for her newsletter:  https://irmgardebrown.com/ To order Sister Jane:  https://bookshop.org/books/sister-jan... https://www.amazon.com/Sister-Jane-Ir...
