I am old enough to remember the country being gripped by this tragedy only a year after 9/11.

I wonder if it was someone in law enforcement. It doesn't just seem like they are covering their mistakes but more like they are covering for someone.

I think it was a drug deal gone wrong and the killer took the money for the drugs and the phone to get rid of evidence that proves she called him

I’m kinda in the middle honestly, I could see both sides. I do agree, if he truly didn’t do this, I feel so bad for him and his luck. If he did, I’m glad he has life

Michigan had a serial killer just like Bible John, in the 60s, as well. John Norman Collins, I believe all his victims were in their periods too.

There is so much more that you didn't include and you could have gotten an entire 3rd episode. This "investigation" was horribly conducted and suffered from tunnel vision from the first day. 1. On the 26/27th a trailing dog led police to within 2 blocks of the burglars' (Todd and Pearce) house when the handler stops the trail due to the late hour. For some reason the police have never explained the trail is not continued the next day. In fact it is never revisited. 2. When the cops later arrest the Todd/Pearce with the Medina safe in their house they still don't revisit this trail. 3. Todd/Pearce had 3 men they hired to move the heavy safe. The cops never press them for the names of these men in order to question them. 4. Within a couple hours of the police arriving at the Peterson residence on Christmas Eve they overhear the cops on the radio saying Lt. Brocchini says it's the husband. 5. The Tenbrink brothers, who are criminal associates of Todd/Pearce are talking on a recorded line. Brother Shawn is serving time at Norco State Prison in California. The officer listening to the the call hears brother Adam tell Shawn that Todd/Pearce told him that Laci had confronted them while they were breaking into the Medina home and Todd had threatened her. 6. The Norco prison officer reports this conversation to his superior, Lt. Aponte. Aponte makes 2 calls to Modesto police but it still takes them a week to return his call. He tells them about the call and gives them a recording of the conversation. The Modesto police bury this information listed on a CD with 10,000 other tips. The recording of the call was "lost." 7. The last person to see Laci walking her dog is a Registered Nurse who was sitting outside smoking a cigarette before her shift began. She heard a man shouting "shut that fucking dog up" and saw Laci and MacKenzie being followed by 2 men. 8. The same day Laci went missing an off-duty police officer and his wife drive past a van (fitting the description of the burglar vehicle) that is pulled over to the side of the road where a woman fitting Laci's description is urinating with a man standing over her. The look on the face of the woman is fearful and this prompts the officer to turn around at the next intersection to go back and investigate. By the time he returns the van is gone. He reports this to detectives a couple of days later when he becomes aware Laci is missing.

These ladies need kids. They talk about dogs like they're people. They should put that mothering nature to use. Other than that great podcast!
