This year’s main feature on the Nepetalakton Series in context of the only jazz month of the southern hemisphere MAMA JAZ brings on board jazz virtuoso Nicola Conte. MAMA JAZ reaches their high ending note for 2019 and the only jazz month festival of the southern hemisphere celebrates the International Jazz Day with a very special session, and our main feature of the Nepetalakton Series; an hour-long mix of mystical jazz, with a dose of tribal and spiritual 70’s vibe, from the multi-versed virtuoso, producer, composer, bandleader and DJ Nicola Conte. Mr Conte currently leads the Spiritual Galaxy Band and recently released his jazz-infused Free Your Mind EP on Schema. To add, his enormous discography ranges on a 20-year span of music releases, housed on labels such as Far Our Recordings, Schema Records, Universal Music and Blue Note. For this session, recorded at a studio in Bari, Mr Conte proposes carefully handpicked tracks, all taken from original issues vinyl albums, and narrates an hour-long story about the musical atmosphere he currently dwells in. Mawkus lays out an energetic set crafted with spellbinding music and captivating voice samples, steered through his sheer DJing experience and dedication to jazz, narrating an hour-long story full of compelling rhythms and drum patterns. Introducing our collaboration with MAMA JAZ, the Nepetalakton series, an ode to jazz and its influence on other sounds. Artists and friends around the world have been excited to bring their own touch to this series which we are launching on this year’s International Jazz Day with a pillar of the Montreal music scene. Active for over 15 years, versatile DJ, influential tastemaker and respected record digger, Lexis. In 2007, he founded Music Is My Sanctuary, one of most respected independent music websites in the world, in 2007. He crafted a fresh jazz influenced house selection which brilliantly kickstarts Nepetalakton. In our sense, a series which is meant to stimulate jazz cats as we reach for their pineal glands through their ears. Jump on board and enjoy the ride cymbals!
Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, JonnyVicious is one of the most sought-after selectors in the SEA region at the moment, who has been gracing international parties with his highly eclectic mixes and persona. Strolling through most of KL’s underground venues on a monthly basis, Jonny also has strong ties to the Singaporean scene, where he recently played at the packed out Kilo Lounge. We were very excited to welcome him on the rota for the electrocaine sessions, and oh boy did he deliver: 60 minutes of weird eclectic beats in one of the most outstanding mixes in the season.
