This week, we talk COVID SHIT! Sorry. Carl writes this stuff, and he is so literally sick of COVID that it just hurts his ears. Any way! Steve talks about some stuff. Ellen talks about more stuff. Then Chelsea goes all in with a tell-all that will knock your socks off (just kidding!) She says some stuff, and we all live happily ever after! Did we mention that we managed to stay sober too?

Hope? Nope? Shut your mouth! Sober Pod takes on the challenge of hope and how to find it! Are we successful? Nope! But we stayed sober the whole time we recorded this episode! That's hopeful, huh? Not a large amount, but man! We have to do it one day at a time like everyone else! #ODAAT #RecoveryPosse
Sober Pod - Junk Drawer

Sober Pod - Junk Drawer

2020-11-0750:461

This week is a potpourri episode where we reach into the junk drawer of our lives. There are so many things in circulation in our daily lives, jobs, anxiety, elections, or COVID19! So many things! We look at how we maintain our sobriety and keep it in focus in our lives. Did we just phone in this topic? Maybe! But you’ll have to listen to find out!
This week we talk about persistence, consistency, our will, and so many other things it takes to do what we do in recovery. We take the time to reflect on early recovery and what we did to maintain our sobriety. Join us as we stumble fuck our way through another episode. We stayed sober. Get over it! Oh! Happy 200th episode to us!

Have we lost our minds? This is not what recovery is supposed to look like! What happened to all the rainbows, unicorns, and healthy living! Where did all this "happy, joyous, and free go?" What about patience, love, and understanding? Whats' so funny about it anyway!!!

What's really going on? We are back! Finally! This week we catch up with Carl and ask him, "What the fuck happened and what's really going on?" We find out that he had a medical problem, and he tells us what happened in his hospital adventure. Thanks for listening! We hope you all have a great week!
Oh boy! What a s#!t show! Bad audio, echoes that make it sound like we are talking into kettle drums! We are posting it anyway! We field a series of topics from Twitter! It’s an episode. We also talk about lobsters a lot. It doesn’t make any sense, just go along with it.

Sober Pod - Bad.

So bad. We're so bad! Bad, bad, bad!!!!! Okay, maybe not too bad, but we are certainly overwhelmed and can hardly think straight some days. We could be in fear again. Dang, it! Why are all these feelings so dang confusing all the time! Who thought of these things anyway! Man!
Fear we come! Walking down the street! We get the funniest looks from everyone we meet! Hey, hey, were so afraid!!! Oh my! Ellen, Carl, and Chelsea talk about the feelings wheel again and then jump straight into fear without preparing for a show at all! Hoping that Steve would step up and save them the entire time, they did just fine without Robot Steve! Oh well, maybe he can save us next time!
Sober Pod - Sad. So sad.

Sober Pod - Sad. So sad.

Chelsea takes the helm, and we get so friggin sad and a little giddy at the same time. We talk about sadness, guilt, and shame as a kickstart for this weeks' feelings topic. Hang in there! It gets better. We promise.
Sober Pod - Anger! Damn it!

Sober Pod - Anger! Damn it!

2020-08-0801:10:30

In this episode, we whip out the good ol' feelings wheel as we explore our anger, and we find that anger is such a powerful emotion that can lead to some pretty insane behavior. Follow us as Ellen, Carl, Chelsea wander down frustrated, hurtful pathways of anger and resentment. So delicious!
Sober Pod - Feelings

Sober Pod - Feelings

2020-08-0148:34

At Sober Pod, we feel (and so do our therapists) that it's essential to talk about our feelings. Some of us have not been able to talk about our feelings or identify our feelings for decades. Pushed down, stuffed, covered up, swallowed, we use all kinds of terms to describe what we have attempted to do with our emotions. In this episode, we want to try to have each of us express our top 5 feelings in recovery/sobriety and discuss why they are important to us. We know it's hard to follow, but hopefully, we will discover more about feelings and ourselves in these upcoming episodes.
Getting back into some A.A. materials, we start an episode by reading a post from Sober Pod Live. As we explore the post and its topic of "tolerance" and the question of "Can I be angry in A.A.?" it's still not clear if we ever answer the question. Waste another hour with us, won't you?
In this tired and poorly sounding episode, we try to discuss self-care and taking care of ourselves in recovery. It's not always easy to remember to take care of ourselves at the beginning of early recovery. We use the article from MHA in the show notes on the website to guide our discussion.
In 2020 we had no idea we would be talking about expectations again, but here we are doing this all over again. It's incredible how much you can forget about when the calendar dates fly by without a care as you do a podcast in your underwear while eating corn dogs. Geez! Who reads this stuff, anyway?
As we discuss the finer points of "RECOVERY," the inevitable argument will arise regarding the words "Recovered" vs. "Recovering." Well? Which is it? Why do we say one or the other? Why does it matter? Who started all this nonsense anyway? Dave! Yes, you, Dave M! We all blame you!!!
Getting sober involves so many things. Life doesn't happen to us; it happens because of us. We can take our new lives by the reins, or our lives can put us against the ropes. Either way, we are accountable to (and for) our recovery, family, job, and ourselves. It takes diligence and willingness. - It's a lot, we know... join us!
The inner critic can take any situation and add its voice. The negative self-talk needs to be addressed in recovery. Not having had a lot of positive reinforcement in our past, we have to make an effort to begin to counteract that inner critic. Join us as we learn more about ourselves and the tiny voices in our heads.
