This episode is in honor of social distancing. It’s just going to be you and me exploring motivation… What makes us tick? What gets us going? Well today I’m excited because I think I’ve cracked some of the code and how it applies to marketing… and I want to share that with you now… Thank you to Steven Pressfield for writing The War of Art See the LinkedIn article of this episode here:
Dean Levitt is probably one of the most fun people to talk to. His friendly smile is almost as big as his beard but neither can compete with his love of people. It is that love for humanity that has driven his incredibly successful customer-focused career as a co-founder of Mad Mimi, the email platform that GoDaddy acquired in 2014… and now as a resident of the Start-Up nation here in Israel where he is working on a very exciting new project which you’ll hear about… towards the end of the episode… enjoy Dean Levitt's Bio: Raised on a farm in South Africa, Dean moved to the United States to pursue a career in music, eventually finding his way to the tech world. What began as a booking tool for musicians became an email marketing tool that grew to over 200,000 users and an exit to GoDaddy. While growing his previous company, Mad Mimi, Dean realized he had a passion for helping small businesses grow online. Dean is a mentor at 500 Startups, a co-founder of ThymeBase, and an avid surfer. https://www.linkedin.com/in/deanlevitt/ https://thymebase.com/ https://madmimi.com/
This may be my favorite episode yet. It’s a new year and we often talk about giving back at the end of the year… but our hope here was to give some inspiration for all of you to find ways to give back starting now… so without further ado... Today I am joined by Valerie Kroll, The president of the board of directors at the Digital Analytics Association. She is a highly experienced Analytics & Optimization expert who has a big heart and a passion for building up the people around her. We explore the idea of giving back, the benefits of being a person who gives back and many of the forms that it can take. No matter your years of experience, there is something for all of us to take from this one. Enjoy... https://www.linkedin.com/in/valeriekroll/
Emily Zimmerman is a serial entrepreneur who, while working a regular gig, has found time either on her own or with her husband to build and/or spin off small businesses over the last decade. As a previous client and friend I was always amazed at her ability to deliver unique experiences even in saturated industries. Emily approached me to help scale her Etsy business and the conversation went in a surprising but fascinating direction. I’ve been really excited about this episode and, having taken a break for our move across the world, have been able to check in with Emily to give you a glimpse of what happened a few months after we originally recorded the episode… enjoy…
This is a very exciting episode as Jennifer’s book and work has made a tremendous impact on myself and my wife throughout our careers. Jennifer Joy Walker has a tremendous background... that you’ll get to hear a bit about in the episode... that includes being the author of Full Color Living as well as the president of her company with the same name. Over more than 2 decades she has helped people achieve their purpose and potential through consulting, coaching and public speaking for individuals, groups and organizations including Disney and Universal Studios.  Her expertise includes leadership and organizational development as well as a slew of other areas that you’ll get a taste of here. Beyond hearing about her career and work, I asked Jennifer to listed to a few episodes of Digital Marketing Life that you have now heard… and share her  perspective with us. I know you’ll enjoy this one... Full Color Living: https://amzn.to/2mmb9js
Neuromarketing is a topic I have been want to dive into and I found no better place to start than a local Atlanta startup I bumped into named Sorter. Will Allred is the Co-founder and COO of Sorter, a recommendation engine that enables marketers to provide psychologically resonant brand experiences at scale. I really enjoyed geeking out with him on behavioral psychology and truly believe this is the direction our industry is bound to go. Enjoy…
This week we're going to talk about a business model first approach to digital marketing and all about how what we do as digital marketers needs to be far more than measuring clicks and conversions. But before I get to that I have some major news... For sources, videos and links: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/were-buying-thoughts-clicks-noah-omri-levin
This is an episode I have been really excited about, especially for those of you that are looking to break into the digital marketing industry. This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with the incredibly talented Ashley Spotts of Search Discovery. Ashley was a hidden gem when we discovered her. She was working for a Consumer Packaged Goods company in Atlanta but clearly had a mind for business, a passion for loyalty and hard work and a determination to find a career path she enjoyed. I've learned so much from working with Ashley and I know you will too.
This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with a former colleague who has always been a force to reckon with in the Digital Marketing Industry. Olivia Hawkins is a media planning and strategizing powerhouse and is currently an Associate Director at VaynerMedia up in the bustling New York City. She is also an instructor at one of my most favorite institutions, General Assembly and was my ticket into that place for which I'll be forever thankful. What I love about Olivia is how her drive and clarity for what she wants in her career repeatedly helps her achieve her personal goals. No matter your level, you can learn from this one… https://www.linkedin.com/in/okhawkins/
This week I am excited to share with you, how we launched Kayla's podcast for FirstYearMarried.com and the incredible results she's already getting from it.
Bobby Huntley is the Director, Co-Producer and Co-Writer of La Vie Magnifique De Charlie also known as "The Charlie Movie". I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bobby and discussing his journey into the film industry as well as how he is going about marketing for The Charlie Movie. He's a charming character who has a passion to change the Atlanta movie scene and has some great advice for all of us along the way. This is the first episode of my series giving you access to our experience marketing our side hustle www.firstyearmarried.com . In it I talk about how we structured her classes on marriage, her marriage coaching sessions and how we are marketing differently in round 2 for the January course by launching the First Year Married podcast. If you have not yet heard episode 8, I highly recommend it before jumping into this one. Her podcast: https://firstyearmarried.com/podcast/
This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with a colleague who has launched a successful business, both online and offline, the Akron Candle Company. Blair Scott is a developer who has learned, through his side hustle, how to become a more effective employee through the perspective he's gotten as the owner of his own business. https://www.linkedin.com/in/blairscott/ https://www.akroncandlecompany.com/ https://www.instagram.com/akroncandlecompany/ http://lovelysomethings.com/
This week I sat down with Lee Elliott, the VP of Digital Media at VaynerMedia. If you listened to episode 8 all about Erin Linsin, Lee is the person responsible for stealing her from my team. He also is responsible for a lot of the amazing growth that VaynerMedia has seen in its paid media departments and is, himself, a wonderful and fascinating person. I think you'll love this episode. As always please do connect and share feedback and since he offered in the episode, here is his info as well: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mleeelliott/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/noahomrilevin/ https://www.instagram.com/noahomrilevin/
This week I sat down with some fantastic folks, some of the top Marketers in Atlanta, on a panel to discuss the value of personal branding, how to build yours and how to and not to do so in the current digital space. This week I had the honor of sitting down with someone who brightens up every room she walks into. She is a powerhouse because she is not only an extremely talented marketing machine but also a deeply reflective and impressively emotionally intelligent human. We talk about her super-human ability to be positive in the face of fire-breathing dragon-like personalities. We talk about women in technology and how she found herself becoming a leading force on the topic at VaynerMedia. We also talk through having a vision for our careers in the digital marketing industry. I really think you'll love this one, she's magnetic.
Noah digs into how laws like GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act are fundamentally flawed. This article was originally posted on LinkedIn here: www.linkedin.com/pulse/catch-22-privacy-law-noah-omri-levin/
This week I set out to get a unique perspective on side hustles, entrepreneurship and even some notes on marriage from the person I admire and have learned the most from. She is an extremely talented entrepreneur and digital marketer, someone who I've learned so much from and who has recently, after 10 years of research and study, converted her side hustle into her full focus: a business coaching women in their first year of marriage. She is none other than Kayla Levin, founder of FirstYearMarried.com… who also happens to be my wife. Listen to her podcast here: https://firstyearmarried.com/podcast/
Doug Colson was an extremely talented digital marketer. He was a great team player and always went above and beyond both in his own work and in his patience for training others. But while Doug was excited about the growth of the company, he struggled internally to feel fulfilled. His story teaches us that enabling people to thrive sometimes means they need to go somewhere else. This is a story you do not want to miss.
This episode is all about the life of the Managing Director of Definition 6, Jason Rockman. Then we tackle a bunch of great topics we're dealing with as Digital Marketers including: Why you would partner, outsource or build capabilities in house, the importance of clarity and direction, holding companies vs independent agencies and we even get into the considerations someone new coming into the industry should consider.
