Today I want to talk about another book that has been changing my life. I was unaware, but it is a widely known book called the Artist’s Way. I would not classify myself as an artist. I mean, when I hear the world artist, I think of one who paints for a living, or someone who is creating actual art work and that is their job and they hang out at street fairs to sell their work. However, I have learned that really, we are all artists! We are artists of our lives! Learn how to go on a journey to self discovery where you will find more creativity, happiness and energy!Helpful Resources in this Episode:This post contains affiliate links which means I can make a small profit at no cost to you.Continue the declutter journey from my last episode! Today, I did an impromptu interview with a long time friend of mine, Veronica Allen Hunt. I brought her on the show today because her life and how she lives it goes right along with my new year new you series! She’s super positive and successful and a mom and a principal. One thing that I like about my show is that I try very hard to make sure that you know I am a real human being. I work 2 jobs, I have 3 kids that live with me, two stepsons, a long distance husband and I dabble in side hustles, this podcast being one of them. I have a lot on my plate, yet I am happy and I am doing it. Veronica is the same. It was very refreshing to meet up with her because I feel like often, in the area of self improvement, gurus, experts of whatever they call themselves, do not seem real to me. I mean I have often wondered if these overnight success stories have a real job or husband or kids? I mean, do they struggle ever, or do they constantly have their game on? See, I do not, and if I can do this life, you can do yours too! Veronica brings to us some very useful tips that are realistic and are things that I have not thought of myself. So if you feel like you’ve heard it all, I assure you, you are in for a real treat!Helpful Resources in this EpisodeThis post contains affiliate links which means I can make a small profit at no cost to you.My journal Create the Awesome is now available on Amazon. Go to www.yddoa.com/journal. My new online shop is now open at yddoa.com/shop.Still working on those weight loss goals? I used to never be a person who made goals ever. My close friends that have known me for a long time know that I have really transformed into a new me. Years ago, New Years Day would roll around and I would say bah humbug to resolutions and goals. What was the point? All I was ever going to be was Christian’s mom and a wife. Have you ever felt like this? Today, people ask me how I get so much done. I owe my accomplishments, big and small, to realistic goal setting.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
For the next few episodes, I will be doing a series for the new year called New Year, New You. Since the new year is when we tend to try to get back on track, I have broken these down into a few topics. This week I’ll be talking about getting healthier. Next we will talk about goals, getting organized and then on to getting a healthy mindset.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
I had heard of feng shui, but I did not know much about it.  As far as I knew at the time, it was some kind of Chinese way of decorating.  And that’s what it is, but there’s more to it than that.  According to Google, it’s a Chinese practice that helps people align their energies with their surroundings.Helpful Resources in the EpisodeThis post includes affiliate links which means that I could earn a small profit at no cost to you.Purchase the Your Daily Dose of Awesome Journal at yddoa.com/journalNeed a dose of Positivity? Some things need to be routine and a little on the boring side.  But every once in a while I get into this lull, where there’s nothing really exciting going on, there’s nothing to look forward to at the moment and all the days seem to feel like the same day.  Literally, on Tuesday, I thought it was Thursday.  Do you know how sad that is once I realized it was really Tuesday?  Do you ever feel like all the days just kind of swirl together into one big long day?  Today, I want to talk about how to make things just a little more exciting each day. I am a work in progress when it comes to my money mindset.  I am on a teacher’s income functioning as a single mom.  Although very happily married, if you did not know, we do not live together (long story), and we do not share our incomes.  At work, the people I work the closest with are married and live on 2 incomes.  My parents and cousins are all super successful.  I am super proud of them.  They have worked hard to get where they are.  They also chose different career paths, and had I done the same, I too, could be doubling what I make now, if not tripling it.  I have had to work on my mindset because at times, I have gotten very negative about it.  It’s totally on me.  I am the only one who controls my thoughts, so I am fully to blame for any negativity that I have had towards money.  It is very easy for me to get down on myself when I see people at work going out to lunch together and I never can.  I rarely buy new clothes, my roots are showing most of the time, and my nails are never manicured professionally.  I could keep going, but I, like I said, have changed my money mindset.  I’m only telling you some of my negative thoughts so you can see how changing my mindset of money has changed.  I was already a few years in as far as changing my mindset about money, but after reading this book, I feel myself changing even more. Having a child go off to college causes the feeling of grief.  I’m thinking it just has to run its course I guess.  But there’s a twist. It feels like my son broke up with me, and I just really want him to like me.  The funny thing is, I know he likes me, in fact he loves me!  But all of a sudden he is on his own and busy with new friends (again a good thing) and classes and basketball that when I call, he is constantly rushing to get me off the phone.  He called once just to chat, and boy, was I on top of the world.  Seriously, though, it feels like I am grieving with a side of a break up.  I have been doing a ton of things just to keep myself from having to stop and cry.  Here's how I'm keeping myself from losing it... If you have been listening for awhile, you have heard me talk about the importance of journaling.  I have been journaling daily for a few years now, and it has really changed my life.  I wanted to dive in and tell you in detail about how I journal exactly, because I came to the realization that I never really explained the type of journaling that I do! See, journaling can be intimidating, even to me.  And just so you know, when I write in a journal, I am not writing on a blank page.  Oh no, now THAT would be intimidating.  I keep a blank journal on me at all times, especially at work, but that is for jotting down the millions of thoughts and ideas that run through my mind all day.  I think often people like the idea of journaling, but really don’t know where to begin. In today's episode, I talk about the new journal created for busy people or for anyone who sees the value in journaling, but has been intimidated by staring at a blank page.  Look no further, and watch your life change with my brand new Create the Awesome Journal! Today I want to talk about how I lost 7 pounds over the last 2 and a half weeks. It is a very big deal that I did this.  Here’s why: I am the type of person who does not like to work out.  I don’t like diets.  I love bar food, fried food, homemade baked goods and so much more food that is super bad for you.  I love going out to eat. I wonder if any of these character traits resonate with you?  If so, I bet you are wondering how I did it (and I kept it off and I am still losing).  Listen to this episode to see what I did. In this episode, I talk about creating the “let’s see what happens” mindset, especially since I have had my life change so much lately that all I can do is change my mindset! I think this mindset can apply to a lot of the transitions that we are all facing right now.  I am pretty sure you will be able to apply this mindset to something that is going on in your life.  Listen in about how this mindset has helped me through some major transitions. It is back to school season, and I really hope I can keep up with the podcast!  I have no intention of not doing it weekly, but I am feeling a little anxious about school starting just like I do every year, but there is added stress with all of the changes due to the corona virus, and that is what I want to talk about today. If this is your first time listening, I am a mom and a teacher.  I have been teaching 5th grade for most of my 23 years.  I have a son going into college, a daughter who is in high school, and my youngest is going into 3rd grade.  In addition, my husband’s boys are going into junior high and high school.  Come the end of August and early September, many households, like ours,  will change and hopefully for the better. Last week I talked about how I was regulating my 8 year old’s ipad usage, and wouldn’t you know it, as soon as we started to get a grip on things, 2 people in my family got COVID.  I wouldn’t normally want to talk about it because I know you get enough  information about the coronavirus from your own news, but I was thinking maybe you would be interested in hearing about it first hand from someone who was living with someone who had it. I can tell you, it isn’t completely like what you are hearing on the news.  It has also been eye opening for me as well.  I hope that no one in your family gets it, but if they do, I will be sharing with you how we dealt with it with much success.  No one else in the house caught it. This week I want to talk about kids and their ipads.  If you have children, your March quarantine situation might sound similar to mine. There are so many questions about what school is  going to look like in the fall.  It sounds like most schools will have the option to go back.  If that is the case, one common thing I am hearing is that the students and staff will definitely need to wear a mask. No matter what your opinion is about the masks, the students will be required to wear them in order to enter the school building.  Here’s the thing, I know there are some people out there that do not like the masks.  Honestly, I don’t care much for them either, but here is my plea, as a teacher:  Please encourage your child to wear a mask.  Start now!  In this episode, I am going to talk about why it is important and how to go about encouraging your child.
