David Watson, member of Free Palestine Melbourne, discusses the purpose and importance of the Red Lines Package, a set of bills to turn Australia's international legal obligations into practical safeguards against genocide, anywhere in the world. They discuss common critiscisms of the Royal Commission on Anti-Semitism and Social Cohesion, that it's focus on Anti-Semitism is a missed opportunity to address how the Bondi attack happened, Israeli lobby groups are pushing for the adoption of the International Human Rights Association definition of Anti-Semitism, a definition which conflates the Israeli government and Zionism with Judaism, which would create a situation where critiscism of and disagreement with the Israeli government could and would be labelled as anti-semitic. The Red Lines Package is a set of bills placing human rights regardless of politics, trade alliance, and defence treaty obligations at the centre, and focuses on defence exports and providing legal red lines to prevent the Australian government from participating in human suffering in any way. Labour turned down the Red Line Package, but this is not the end, on the website you can send a pre-written letter to your parliament member, and encourage them to review this legislation. Remember to go to your local rally, if you feel you cannot help, you can at the very least show your disgust at the genocide in Palestine and your contempt for the Israeli government and our government complicity in the genocide and its perpetrators.
