After a really great chat with Bayer Leverkusen fan and podcaster, Kevin Scheuren, in Germany last week, Will caught up with him once again ahead of Thursday's second-leg at London Stadium. Despite defending admirably for 85 minutes in the first-leg, Leverkusen's two late goals means we have a huge mountain to climb on Thursday if we're going to secure a place in the Europa League semi-final. Kevin said last week that Leverkusen were going to beat the crap out of West Ham in the first-leg and he was pretty much correct in his prediction. While it wasn't a thrashing by any means, their 33 shots to our one says all you need to know about how the game played out. A repeat cannot happen this week and Kevin has urged David Moyes and West Ham to be braver in their attempts to become the first team to beat Xabi Alonso's side in any competition this season, after he was surprised at our lack of effort in trying to score a goal in the first-leg. Once again, this is a great chat with Kevin, who has been a superb guest on the podcast over the last week. And finally, congratulations to Kevin and Bayer Leverkusen for being crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time in their history. What an unbelievable achievement! Come on you Irons! After losing 2-0 to both Bayer Leverkusen and Fulham over the last few days, West Ham's chances of competing in Europe for a fourth consecutive season are hanging by a thread. We have a mountain to climb in the second-leg vs. the newly crowned Bundesliga champions and failure to beat Fulham at home means we're now reliant on the likes of Newcastle, Man United and Chelsea all slipping up in the race for a top-seven finish. If they don't it'll likely be a 9th placed finish and the end of our love affair with European competition. But what has led to this after such a strong start to the season? It's a very similar situation to two years ago when a failure to invest in January led to the team running out of steam. It appears David Moyes and the club haven't learned their lesson, with a lack of options on the bench in recent weeks appearing to cost us. And what does this all mean for David Moyes' future? It's hard to see how he remains in the job beyond the summer. We discuss all of the above and more this week, with Leverkusen and Crystal Palace opposition views coming later this week. As always, thanks for listening! Remember, if you love what we do, please leave us a nice review on whatever platform you're listening on. West Ham United have yet another historic clash approaching as they take on โ€˜unbeaten in 41 games Bayer Leverkusenโ€™ in the Europa League quarter-final first leg in Germany on Thursday. Will Pugh is out there for the game after his underwhelming trip to Freiburg in the last round ended in a 1-0 defeat.ย  And he caught up with German journalist, podcaster and enormous Bayer Leverkusen fan Kevin Schueren ahead of the match on all things Xabi Alonso, Victor Boniface, the Bundesliga title, the threat of Ultra attacks on West Ham fans, team news and of course any hope David Moyes and the boys have of ending their incredible unbeaten run and reaching a third consecutive European semi-final. It's nice to come out of a game of football without feeling hard done by, wronged and aggrieved by a scandalous VAR decision. This time, we were on the right end of it and it was Wolves fans crying scandal. However, this decision WAS correct and Max Kilman's goal WAS rightly ruled out for offside. No scandal this week. Nothing to see here, Wolves fans. It was a huge win and keeps us well in the hunt for another year of European football by virtue of our league position. It was also the perfect result to take into what is without doubt our biggest game of the season so far. We travel to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday to try and be the first team in 42 games to beat Xabi Alonso's side. If ever there was a need for peak Moyes-ball, which we all know has come under intense scrutiny this season, it's now. Will is heading out to Leverkusen and will hopefully be getting an Oppo View before the big game. In the meantime, you've got James and Will reacting to the Wolves game this week and, at the very beginning, James being attacked by his wife and son with Nerf guns! As always, thanks for listening! It's getting towards the business end of the season and after a good, hard-fought draw against rivals Spurs earlier this week, West Ham are still well in the mix for a fourth consecutive season of European qualification. One team threatening to beat us to it, though, is Gary O'Neil's Wolves, who have had a relatively good campaign, if not slightly inconsistent. They're currently three points behind us with a game in hand and, with all the other teams around us having a game advantage over us, there is so much importance in ensuring we continue to pick up points between now and the end of the season. Joining us this week is Dan Baylis from the Wolves 77 Club Podcast to give us his thoughts on his beloved Wolves ahead of Saturday. West Ham somehow managed to throw away a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes to go at Newcastle to lose 4-3.ย  And it depends who you talk to as to who was to blame.ย  Host Will Pugh gives his verdict on this latest podcast during the small window of time between that St Jamesโ€™ Park defeat and the mouthwatering home Premier League clash against Tottenham on Tuesday.ย  Spoiler alert, he blames the dodgy officials for awarding Newcastle a penalty even though Anthony Gordon fouled Kalvin Phillips, not the other way around, rather than David Moyes.ย  He also gives his opinion on Phillipsโ€™ disastrous start to life at West Ham and the midfielder sticking his middle finger up to the โ€˜fanโ€™ who waited by the bus and shouted โ€˜uselessโ€™ at the England man as he left the stadium. Ricky Sacks from the Last Word on Spurs also chimes in with his thoughts on Tuesdayโ€™s game with the Hammers trying to stay 7th and Tottenham looking to leapfrog Aston Villa into fourth.ย  As always, thanks for listening! It was a relatively successful week in the life of West Ham United. A club-record 5-0 victory over Freiburg in the Europa League set up a third consecutive European semi-final, before a hugely controversial 1-1 draw with high-flying Aston Villa in the Premier League. The controversy was, as always, sparked by VAR and their failure to exercise their own 'Clear and Obvious' guidelines. The second disallowed goal was indeed handball, but the first? There is no conclusive evidence that the ball hit Michail Antonio's hand, so the onfield decision should've stood. Instead, VAR failed to do its job and ruled out the goal on what appears to be a hunch. Clear and obvious? Yeah, right. This week we discuss both of last week's games before the international break, and also go over the quarter-final draw against the unbeatable Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League. We'll be off next week but will have an Opposition View for you ahead of the trip to Newcastle. As always, thanks for listening! West Ham are through to the Europa League quarter-final after an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Freiburg in the second leg on Thursday. And itโ€™s another trip to Germany for the Hammers as they drew Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the quarters.ย  That tie will kick off on April 11 but before that, itโ€™s back to the day job with Aston Villa visiting in the Premier League on Sunday. A stressed-out Will, fresh from booking his flights to Germany, complete with Cheltenham hangover speaks to legendary opposition view guest and sports journalist Tim Warwood about his beloved Villaโ€™s trip to the London Stadium.ย  And as always, Tim has come armed with a voice note from his fellow Villa faithful on the Holte End. West Ham must beat Freiburg at home in Thursdayโ€™s Europa League last 16 second leg after last weekโ€™s 1-0 defeat in Germany.ย  That would mean a third European quarter-final in three years for the Hammers which would be a quite simply staggering achievement.ย  The last two results have not been great but West Ham were not a million miles away from a positive result in either game.ย  Freiburg fan Michael from the Fuchsletalk podcast joins Will Pugh to look back on last weekโ€™s game in Germany and ahead to Thursdayโ€™s clash in London.ย  It promises to be a nerve-wracking and exciting evening at London Stadium and hereโ€™s hoping David Moyesโ€™ boys can get it over the line.ย  As always, thanks for listening! How many handballs does it take before it's classed as handball? That was the question we asked PGMOL over the weekend after West Ham were denied a penalty in the last minute against Burnley because a ridiculous law of the game says that if a player kicks or heads the ball against his own hand, it is not handball. In this particular scenario, the ball hit the Burnley player's head, then his left hand and then his right hand. So we asked, does the second handball cancel out the first? PGMOL's answer was "no." Therefore, how many times does a player need to handball it before it's deemed handball? They couldn't answer that one. James and Will discussed that incident and loads more on this week's pod, before looking ahead to Thursday's Europa League last-16 second-leg against Freiburg and Sunday's visit of Aston Villa. Will made the last-minute decision to travel to Freiburg for Thursday night's Europa League last 16 1st leg clash and traveled back on Friday having regretted every single second of it. A late Freiburg goal and a very, very late VAR calamity means we have it all to do at London Stadium next week, but we are still well and truly in this tie. Before then, we host Burnley in Stratford on Sunday. In this episode, Will spends the first half of the hour giving his experience in Germany and his reaction to the game, before speaking with Joe from Turfcast ahead of Sunday's top-flight meeting with the Clarets. West Ham United are back in the Europa League knockout stages once again! Freiburg is hardly a glamour tie, but after the initial disappointment of not drawing AC Milan subsided, there is a renewed belief among Hammers fans that we can go deep once again and hopefully repeat some of the historic scenes we witnessed the last time we were in the knockout stages of this competition.ย  In this episode, Will speaks to Freiburg fan Michael from the Fuchsletalk podcast ahead of Thursdayโ€™s away first leg in the last 16.ย  They cover everything from the train strikes in Germany which may affect travelling Hammers fans to the Bundesliga sideโ€™s likely setup and danger men. Will is heading out to Freiburg on Thursday morning and like most West Ham supporters, cannot wait to see David Moyesโ€™ mighty Irons in action on the continent once again.ย  This is what we were promised when we were ripped from our spiritual home at Upton Park and dragged to the London Stadium so the We Are West Ham podcast will be damned if we are not going to squeeze every last drop of enjoyment out of it.ย ย ย  Thanks for listening everyone. West Ham are massive everywhere we gooooooo! As always, thanks for listening! Remember, if you love what we do, please leave us a nice review on whatever platform you're listening on. It's funny what a couple of wins can do for morale. Back-to-back Premier League victories has led us to 7th in the Premier League and in a strong position for a fourth consecutive season playing in Europe. This time, a lot of the thanks has to go to Alphonse Areola, whose saved penalty and string of saves at Goodison Park led us towards a brilliant 3-1 victory in David Moyes' old stomping ground. Speaking of Areola's penalty save; it sparked a heartfelt apology from James this week, who was previously very critical of the Frenchman's failure to get anywhere close to saving any of Blackburn's penalties in the shoot-out defeat last season. Also this week, we look ahead to the return of the Europa League on Thursday and then the visit of Burnley on Sunday. Also, we mentioned in the podcast that we both completed the London Winter Run 10k in support of Cancer Research a couple of weeks ago. That's more like it, isn't it!? After weeks of talk surrounding David Moyes' negative style of play, which had stopped getting results, West Ham turned up at London Stadium on Monday night and put on a bit of a show. It wasn't perfect, not by any stretch, but we scored four goals and overall looked like we wanted to have a go at playing football for the first time in 2024. Every time we got the ball we looked like we wanted to make something happen, while out of possession we pressed well and put Brentford under pressure. That's the approach we've been crying out for! It was a much-needed victory and it puts us back in contention for a top-eight finish and potentially a fourth consecutive European qualification. If we play like we did against Brentford for the remainder of the season, we've got a huge chance of achieving what we were hoping for in the first-half of the campaign. Obviously, it appears that will likely rest on the fitness of Lucas Paqueta, who makes things tick in this team. It's no surprise we've failed to win a single game this season in which he hasn't featured. This week, we discuss the overall performance on Monday night, react to comments from listeners on the socials and then look ahead to the trip to Everton on Sunday. Also, we mentioned in the podcast that we both completed the London Winter Run 10k in support of Cancer Research last weekend. It has been a fairytale but, unlike the ones we see in the movies, this one won't have a happy ending. David Moyes' time as West Ham manager is surely coming to its conclusion. The latest defeat to Nottingham Forest has put even more pressure on him as his players continue to seek a first win of 2024. But we must not forget that while it's likely to end very soon, the era Moyes has overseen has been the most successful and, without a doubt, the most unexpected periods in a generation. He return with us one point above the relegation zone and seriously fearing dropping back into the Championship. He will leave having led the club to its first silverware since 1980, secured three consecutive European campaigns for the first time in the club's entire history and finished in the top seven of the Premier League twice. He gave us moments like Sevilla at home, Lyon away and, of course, that night in Prague. He gave us Jarrod Bowen, oversaw Declan Rice's growth from promising youngster to one of the best midfielders in world football and delivered on the promises made by the board when we moved to Stratford. European football. He delivered all of that in just four years, all from a standing start. All from a point of imminent relegation. Whatever you think of David Moyes right now, you simply cannot disregard the success he has had and the impact he has had on our great club. His legacy will live on, even if he will eventually leave under a dark cloud. That provides the bulk of our discussion this week. Also, we mention in the podcast that we're both taking part in this weekend's London Winter Run 10k in support of Cancer Research. We know we made a pact to not discuss David Moyes' future on the podcast again, but how can we not? Since we last recorded, we've been battered 6-0 by Arsenal, sold two wingers without replacing them and have failed to register a single win in our first seven matches of 2024. Surely the club needs to make a decision one way or another now? Stalling on a new contract only increases the uncertainty surrounding Moyes' future, and might perhaps be contributing to the current severe downturn in form. On this week's pod, we discuss recent form, touch on Moyes' future/contract situation, mull over the failings of the January transfer window and so much more! As always, thanks for listening! VAR is getting a little bit silly now, isn't it? Not having it against Bristol City arguably worked against us and then having it against Sheffield United meant we were all but robbed of three points at Bramall Lane. Put simply, it's sucking all the fun out of the game we love so much. The big question on everyone's lips is, how can enlisting the help of technology make referees worse at officiating football matches? None of it makes any sense! That's the main topic on our agenda this week as we look back on the games against Bristol City and Sheffield United, before we run the rule over some of the rumoured comings and goings in the January transfer window. And we apologise in advance but, this will be last podcast for a couple of weeks because Will is off on holiday and James is about to start a new job. Call it a bit of annual leave, but we'll be back after the Arsenal game, hopefully celebrating three-in-a-row against the Premier League's champions-elect. As always, thanks for listening! After losing to Bristol City in the FA Cup earlier in the week, West Ham will need to be so much better on Sunday when they visit Sheffield United in the Premier League. The Blades are rock bottom of the Premier League with the worst defence and the fewest points, so many will have this game down as a formality, but given our injury issues and the performance from our fringe players against Bristol City, we shouldn't be so confident. Hal from the Sheffield United Way Podcast joins us for the second time this season to give us the lowdown on his beloved Blades, before Will signs iff with an update on the Betway Charity Bets. The last thing we wanted this week was to be doing another Bristol City Opposition View, but here we are. Ahead of Tuesday night's FA Cup 3rd Replay at Ashton Gate, Will is joined by Patch Warner from 3 Peaps In A Podcast to discuss the first game last weekend and how he thinks the replay will pan out. well, this win was a good one, but it wasn't phenomenal. we played a weak game of football against an incredibly physical Luton town. it was embarrassing how manhandled the irons were. they're lucky to have gotten away with it. they felt comfy and not the same as the man down Chelsea mentality.

Boys, last week you were moaning about us brining in Lingard, saying we didn't need another midfielder, now you are moaning about not bringing in midfielders...cognitive dissonance?

Huge talent so skilful fast & hungry! Exactly what we needed & had. It is sad & i think he would of been crucial on the left. WBA fans & pundits are rightly estatic bc young hungry English & is a game changer that takes on players with ridiculous ease. Yes we have a lot of wingers but most inverted. Grady was our only real natural left winger yes Yarmo & Snod Bowen can but better on RW where Diagana can do both but on the left is devastating. I'd of rather kept him got a a couple frees & loans. We missed out on some solid frees like Robin Knoche a tidy passing good in air CB & DM. Then โ‚ฌ8m for Philipp Max 26 assists in 3 Bundesliga seasons with not the best team & 8 goals 6 assists 19/20. Those two & Grady would of made me thrilled! Don't need to spend big just smart, rant over. Good shows as always & happy everyone is healthy if not happy โš’
