Today on the podcast I'm sharing a new idea that I've been playing around with in my own life, and I've been seeing it crop up in the lives of people around me as well! It's the concept of noticing your behaviour, and paying attention to what kinds of signals it has to share with us about how we may *really* be feeling about something, or what decision might be best for us in any given moment. It can be tricky to "listen to our intuition", so this idea has been super helpful in giving myself what I need lately. This week on the show I'm going into a bit more detail about the new daily habit that I am trying to form! I'm discussing the "why" for the new habit, how I'm motivating myself to work towards it, and how I'm setting up structures to help myself be "successful" with my habit on a daily basis. So far it's been going well, and I think it's because I'm using certain strategies that I know will work well for me. Tune in to hear more about some ways to set yourself up for success with any new habits that you're trying to create in your life. 034: Be Less Precious

034: Be Less Precious

2019-06-0420:06

Today on the show I'm talking about the idea of being less precious with our creative work! How do we do it? I think the answer is giving ourselves a better structure for getting it done and then commit to showing up at a frequency that allows us to be less obsessive and perfectionistic over every single piece of work that we put out into the world. So in this episode, I'm sharing these ideas and a few examples of how I'm inspired to be less precious with my own creative work. This week on the podcast I'm tackling one of my favourite topics: how to read more books! In this episode, I'm discussing the reasons why reading is my favourite hobby and what it gives me personally, as well as sharing some tips & habits to help you get more out of your reading life. If you've ever wanted to do more reading, I hope that these thoughts will help motivate you to get into the habit! On today's episode, I'm revisiting a topic that I recently talked about over on Instagram: the things I try to remember when I'm having a slow, sluggish, unproductive kind of day. I review all the ideas that I use to try to cope with feeling down, and I also share ideas I sourced from other people about how they deal with a slow day. This episode is a note to self for the next time I'm feeling kind of "bleh" and I hope some of these ideas resonate with you too! I am so excited about this very special episode – I'm chatting with one of my favourite thinkers & teachers, Sarah Von Bargen of the blog Yes and Yes. If you've read any of my Inspiration posts over the years, you know that Sarah's ideas have had a big impact on me personally and I'm always sharing her concepts with people both in my work and personal life. In this episode we're discussing her unique money philosophies, her own personal definition of success (and why we all need one of our own), the questionable ethics of much of the current online business world, the Authenticity Tax and how Sarah comes up with so many original ideas. This was such an exciting conversation to have and I hope you love the episode as much as I loved creating it with Sarah. 030: Keep Going

030: Keep Going

2019-03-0527:10

Today's episode is the last one of season 3 of the podcast! Can you believe we're here already? I sure can't, this year is flying. On the show today I'm talking about motivation – specifically, the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and why it matters. I'm also sharing thoughts on how we never know who is listening or resonating with what we share, why that's okay, and why it's our responsibility to do the work anyways. Happy listening & thank you so much for being along on this journey with me! Talk to you soon. This week on the podcast, I'm talking about how I try to use the concept of conducting experiments as a way to explore new ideas for my life and business. Instead of trying to figure everything out beforehand, there's so much freedom in the idea that we can figure it out as we go along, and that the end result will actually end up being even better as a result! This week on the show I'm talking about my recent interrogation of some of my own positive illusions! In the episode I define the concept of positive illusions and make the case for why sometimes we need to break our own positive illusions (both the ones about ourselves and about the world) in order to become more of the people we want to be. This week on the podcast I'm talking about how lately I've been trying hard to let time do its work when I'm feeling stressed out and overwhelmed, and the types of mantras and strategies that are helping me do so. It's a concept that's really hard to apply in the moment, but when I'm able to, it makes a world of difference. It was such a joy to talk to my friend Kathryn Bondy about her incredible work ethic, her profound artistry, and the way she sees the world. I am eternally inspired by almost everything that comes out of her mouth, and I was so excited to finally sit her down and start to capture some of her genius onto the record. In this episode we talk about how her journey began, how she taught herself the art of paper artistry, how her process has evolved, and what inspires her in the world. This week on the podcast I'm talking about one of my favourite reframes (borrowed from the greats, Oprah Winfrey and Byron Katie): the idea that things happen for me, not to me. I also discuss the importance of allowing yourself to feel your feelings before reframing the situation and avoiding spiritual bypassing, and share a few examples of times in my life when this reframing strategy has helped me take more inspired action in the face of tricky circumstances. It was such a joy to talk to my friend Deanne on the podcast this week about her journey and the kind of work she has come to be most passionate about. In this episode we talk about some of the challenges she's faced in her life and how they have informed the ideas and philosophies she now carries with her through her coaching, workshops and movement programs. We talk a lot about the mind-body connection and how we can all spend a bit more time tapping into our bodies in 2019. Today on the podcast, I'm talking about the concept of identity-based habits – how we can start to build better habits by believing different things about ourselves. I'm sharing what I've learned about how we start to shift those beliefs, and how I'm using this framework to start to build better habits of my own. 020: Add It Up

020: Add It Up

2018-11-0622:50

This week on the podcast, it's the end of season two! On today's episode, I'm talking about how the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, especially when we show up and don't break the chain. We end up creating a portfolio of work that says more collectively than any one piece of it ever could.  See shownotes for this episode at lifeinlimbo.org/additup Follow Steph: Newsletter | Instagram Like the show? 019: The Long Game

019: The Long Game

Today on the podcast I'm talking about why we need to stay committed to the long game (spoiler alert: it's kind of the only game in town) and how we can keep up that commitment when things feel slow or tricky to navigate. Today on the podcast I'm talking about a tricky concept known as resistance, and all the sneaky ways that this force tries to keep us from doing our most important and meaningful work in the world.  See shownotes for this episode at lifeinlimbo.org/resistance Follow Steph: Newsletter | Instagram Like the show? This week on the podcast, I'm talking with my friend Ameema Saeed about why we both love reading so much, and what reading can teach us. I loved this conversation so much, since books and reading are one of my favourite topics and I believe we can learn so much from them. Ameema is smart and interesting and has a lot of important things to say about this topic, and it was so fun to chat with her.  See shownotes for this episode at lifeinlimbo.org/lovetoread Follow Steph: Newsletter | Instagram Like the show?
