Todays show is a special one that was recorded originally as part of the Tales From The Magic Box podcast's December special.  Henry did a great job of cutting it around many other segments from other podcasters, but it is presented here in full.   Neil heads out along the railway line in search of a couple of pictures.  He does that quite a bit it would seem...! 😃  This time he's armed with Stewie and a few sheets of photographic paper. Happy New Year all, and here's to a positive 2021. ------------------------------- Tales From The Magic Box can be heard here and is well worth some of your time. ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! Alex and Neil finally get back together for a chat about what they’ve been up to since they last properly spoke in June! Welcome to the Err train!  Whoo Whoo!   Neil has received his Pixl-Latr and does an impromptu unboxing and review, no real planning and lots of rambling, but hopefully of interest! On the shows Youtube channel (yes there is such a thing...) there is also a (not great) video that hopefully demonstrates the Pixl-Latr better than an audio podcast.  We'll let you be the judge of that...! Find that here, assuming Neil can work YouTube properly...which is doubtful... *feels the need to make a gag along the lines of better Pixl-latr than never.... ....sorry... 😃  ------------------------------- Get your own Pixl-Latr here  35mmc ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! An episode that had every intention of just being a short follow up to  show 53 that took on a life of its own... Neil is in the darkroom making paper negatives with the monstrous Kodak folder he picked up earlier in the day.  Success, failure, some better success and some final images.  Oh and he 'ended' the show several times so make sure the 'end' you finish at is the actual end of the show!  ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! In todays show Neil visits his first car boot sale since the world went down the toilet, shoots some film around the sale and comes away with some surprising bargains. He then goes for a wander through the woods chasing elusive rays of light to make some more photographs with Stewie the Speed Graphic. He also gets attacked by mosquitoes.   Honestly, first cows now freaking mozzies... And just so you know, episode 54 is already in the bag and follows on with Neil actually using that cool Kodak...tune in soon for the results! ------------------------------- Anil Mistry's work mentioned is called Ritual, and some of it can be seen here.  I believe he's releasing it soon as a book as well.   ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! Just Neil this episode out in the forest following part of the Southwold to Halesworth narrow gauge railway line again. This episode he brings along Stewie the Speed Graphic, his Canon A1 and the Minolta Riva Panorama to make some images on sheets of Foma 400 and some 35mm Kentmere 400.   ------------------------------- Forgot to make proper notes, sorry!   I know that Analogue Wonderland was mentioned Henry and his Tales from The Magic Box podcast Im pretty sure an undated box of film was mentioned and called Ilford FP3.  It was actually FP4. ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! Alex and Neil are back after a 12ish week long break!  As such they’ve got a massive list of stuff that they want to chat about, but only touch on a small bit of it - but don’t worry they do throw themselves head first into many a rabbit hole.  Some of them are even related to photography! Shooting lenses outside your normal comfort zone, Gandolfi cameras, other podcasts and how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected things in general.  They do put an end date on the Ricoh competition - end of July 2020 (listen back to episode 50 for full details) - and as mentioned, if you enter, your odds of winning are very good right now...! 😃  Shout out again to listener Christer Brant for being awesome and offering up the prize.  They forgot to thank Kevin MacLeod for the music (thanks Kevin, details below) and probably forgot to give out socials - they’re below as well! Definitely forgot to mention the Ko-Fi fund (guess what, thats below as well…!)  Frankly there’s probably loads more but chances you’re not still reading this garbage anyway…for those that are, really this is the most rambly, tangent led episode of anything ever recorded by anybody…sorry but actually not sorry -its always great catching up...!  -------------------------------  Linden at Londinium Cameras  Ian Turpin & The Ordinary Photographer   I think this is the video Alex mentioned about Gandolfi Cameras, which unfortunately closed up shop in 2017  -------------------------------  As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! Neil with another short Public Service Announcement regarding film processing.  I posted in the -/+ Facebook group the other day, and would like to pass the info on to any of you guys that don't read Facebook, that during these peculiar times of COVID-19 and government enforced lockdown I know some of you lovely people may be struggling to either find lab to process your film, or even the chemistry to do it yourself.  Hit me up if this is the case, I am more than happy to help out where I can.   Stay safe everybody, and let’s help each other out where we can. ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! It's the big 5 - 0 for us over here at Soot & Whitewash towers, so Alex and Neil get together for a chat about, well, a whole bunch of stuff.  Frankly we didn't keep great notes and make no apologies for it... What we do remember is there is a fantastic camera and film giveaway from listener Christer Brandt, Neil forgets to hit record on the conversation, Alex screws up some developing, Neil tries to capture an image in an empty film holder, and we flesh all that out with loads of analogue photography chat.    ------------------------------- Londinium Cameras - https://londiniumcameras.com Roger Lean - London, 0208 881 5208 Analogue Wonderland - https://analoguewonderland.co.uk Simon Forster - https://simonforsterphotographic.co.uk & @simonforsterphotographic on instagram Firstcall Photographic - https://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk Andrew Sanderson can be found at @andrewsandersonphotography on instagram His new website and blog is at https://www.stuckathomephotography.co.uk and has an instagram account at @stuckathomephotography The photograph of the pear we were talking about was taken by Dallas Sells, who can be found in the Large Format Photography Podcast Facebook group  - https://www.facebook.com/groups/2296599290564807/ Project Box Camera - www.projectboxcamera.wordpress.com and @projectboxcamera on instagram  ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop us an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send us a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! In todays show I’m in a great mood and I’m back in Dunwich trying to capture this white whale photograph with Stewie. I talk a little bit about Project Box Camera, why I set it up with Alex and I even shoot my first roll for the project. I develop some sheets, some 127 and some 620 and talk through my developing process with Caffenol CL.  Actually just one sheet. So not sheets with an ’s’. I also tell the story of how Stewie came to be, for those who didn’t read the show notes last time…and probably aren’t this time either…! ------------------------------- Project Box Camera can be found at: Instagram - @projectboxcamera Blog - www.projectboxcamera.wordpress.com ------------------------------- As always please feel free to drop me an email at sootandwhitewash@gmail.com or send me a call in if you’d like to get your voice out on the show! In this episode I venture into the outside world with my Speed Graphic for the first time.  There's me learning stuff, having fun, getting stuff wrong, pulling my hair out (what little is left) and ultimately a happy ending.  Its a bit longer than I'd hoped but that happens I guess sometimes when you ramble on without a coherent idea of what you're doing... Apologies for the wind noise in some of the segments. Theres a lot of cursing in this show just to warn the people that care... ------------------------------- ...and who's Stewie you ask?  Well, I was reading something about people having names for their large format cameras the other day and I thought it was odd.  But I still got to thinking what the Speed Graphic's name might be.  I was watching an episode of Family Guy and it occurred to me that the initials SP, Speed Graphic, were the same as Stewie Griffin...therefore Stewie the Speed Graphic.   Dumb, but it appears to have stuck.
