There are big changes in store for 2020 and I wanted to give you a quick insight here about what's going down! I have been podcasting since August 2018 and the goal was SIMPLE. To share personal growth tips and impactful conversations...I called it "The Growth Tribe" because I wanted to build a tribe of people who were as obsessed with personal growth as I was! But things are a little different now... I'm STILL OBSESSED with personal growth and probably always will be! But as we enter a new year and a new decade, I had a big f'ing realization...It's not just about personal growth...it's about intentional action to help you TAKE BACK YOUR DAMN LIFE! When I started my personal growth journey in 2014, every single thing I did had an intention. And that intention was to empower me to TAKE BACK MY DAMN LIFE and do it on my terms... And that's what I want this podcast to do for YOU...That's my MISSION. That's what I believe I was put on this earth to do! Cuz I know in my bones what it feels like to live a life that isn't yours...and I want to empower you to TAKE YOURS BACK! So, there are some changes coming up in this podcast! And I want to give you a little insight today into what they are: We're going to keep things short, sweet and to the point. There will be more solo episodes + shorter interviews... We're going to continue giving you tangible tips... We're going to be bringing in some more of the clarity + mindset stuff... Are you ready to get OUT of your OWN WAY?! Right now? Heading into this new year and new decade? Well, then jump in on today's podcast episode. Today, we've got Therese Skelly on the podcast. Therese is a business coach, but her goal and specialty is helping women do just that - GET OUT OF THEIR OWN WAY! What I like about Therese's work is that she brings in energy and emotion in similar ways that I do, but in a different way. It's that great fusion of spiritual and strategy that sometimes we NEED...even if it feels a little bit different! So, I urge you to lean into that! Hope you enjoy it! Have you ever felt like you weren't showing up as fully you? Have you ever felt like the very labels that once empowered you felt like shackles? It's a story that's resonated with me in so many ways because it was what I experienced. But I've never heard it echoed so similarly from another person. Today, we have Elena Joy Thurston on the podcast. She's a transformational retreat leader, inspirational speaker, writer and recently gave her first TedX talk in Colorado Springs. She's on the podcast today telling us a poignant story about authenticity, self-judgment and learning to release her own labels to step into the person she was meant to be. I see so much of myself in this story and it resonates on so many levels. I hope you feel the same way! It's Thanksgiving week and I wanted to talk about something that would tie into this notion of thankfulness and being grateful. But I also was reflecting recently on the fact that this has truthfully been a tough year for me! Sometimes it's been tricky to be thankful and grateful because this year has been struggle after struggle. Growing pains are necessary, but they're not always pleasant! And I wanted to have a candid conversation about that... So, in today's episode, I'm talking about the seasons of life and how to be grateful for where you're at, even if it doesn't feel good! So, I've got 3 tips today to help you be grateful for the season of life that you're in. We'll talk about what some of the seasons of life are, how to acknowledge (and not resist!) them, even if the season you're in is hard for. We'll talk about self-awareness and finding the lesson in the season you're in! And lastly, we'll talk about not judging your season or where you "should be". Happy Thanksgiving and I hope that this one resonates! How can we be committed to bettering ourselves, but also be mindful? CAN those two things coexist? In early September, my good friend Elena Thurston asked me that question and if she could interview for her community about the practical side of mindfulness techniques. And it turned into an awesome conversation that I cannot WAIT to share with you!  In today's podcast episode, we're turning the tables and I AM BEING INTERVIEWED by someone else, which is so fun, and we're discussing practical mindfulness techniques to live your best life! We talk about the practical side of journaling, of meditation, and of why judgment is such a difficult thing to balance! I hope you enjoy it and I want to send a huge shoutout and thank you to Elena for not only asking me to have this conversation but also for sharing the audio with me so that I can release it here. Do you ever feel like you can't follow-through you on your commitments? That you tend to flake out? That the only way you can get shit done is if you have someone there to hold you accountable? I get it. I used to feel like that too! In fact, that was the whole reason that I got my start in coaching because I was a fitness accountability coach. Showing up for my clients kept me committed and accountable to showing up for myself. And don't get me wrong, I think there' s a time and place for getting accountability from others. Hell, I'm a coach! My business depends upon that... But I also think that at some point, we've gotta go it alone. We've gotta step out of what can sometimes be the SAFETY of that group accountability environment and see: "can I really show up just for me?" In fact, it's something I encouraged with my clients as a fitness coach and something I still encourage! My goal is always that, for whatever that person came to me for, that they will get to a point where they don't need me anymore. That I've taught them enough that they can handle it on their own! But, self-accountability can be hard! So, today I want to give you my top 3 tips for how to create more SELF-accountability! Because self-accountability, truly is the secret sauce. And if you can be accountable to yourself + to the commitments you've made to you and no one else, damn friend, you're going to go far in this life! The first time I remember having body image issues, I was a pre-teen...and the person who told me I was fat was a family member. That's actually the first time I have said that in a public space...but it's true and it wasn't the last time either. Basically, body image has been a constant struggle for me throughout my life. That's why when the babes of @wellnesslately asked about coming on the podcast and talking about diet culture, I knew that it was going to happen. Because these conversations can never be had enough. Today on the podcast, we've got the babes of @wellnesslately, Bridget and Dana, and we're talking about all things diet culture and diet mentality. So many of us have been conditioned in what Bridget and Dana called a "fat-phobic" society to fear food, putting weight and feel shamed because we're not 6-packed, long-limbed Victoria Secret models...and to put it simply, that ain't right. Bridget and Dana has made it their mission to help women recovering from the diet mentality and from struggles with body image to release diet mentality and take back their lives from this toxic culture through intuitive eating. Why isn't your BIG VISION coming true? Everyone told you just had to think it into being...MANIFEST your big vision into being...LAW OF ATTRACTION, right?! In my opinion + experience, that's not the case. I'm not saying that the law of attraction isn't real because self-confirming bias totally is! And I know that plays a role...but there's something missing... I sat down to review my vision not too long ago and I had a HUGE epiphany. I have already achieved a few of the things in that vision. The more I looked into it, the more I realized that the things I had achieved were the ONLY things in the vision where I had gotten really tangible about not only on who I wanted to be, but what that version of me would do! So, in today's episode, we're going to get REALLY tangible about WHY your BIG VISION hasn't happened yet and how YOU can take back the reins to change that! Super pumped for this one! I cannot WAIT for you to hear it! When I think of meditation... enlightenment... consciousness... SEXY is not often the word I think of that goes with them! And I'm an avid meditator. I've been meditating for 2-3 years now. But enlightenment IS sexy! And I didn't think of it that way until I met today's podcast guest! Valerie Gangas is a self-proclaimed party girl who, after attending her first Transcendental Meditation experience in 2011, awakened in a profound way.  She's always been a lover of religion, but this experience opened her up in a new way. From there, her movement was born, spawning the Amazon bestseller, Enlightenment Is Sexy: Every Woman’s Guide to a Magical Life (EIS). In today's podcast, we're getting nitty-gritty into her story, how she found meditation, how it grew into her calling, what transcendental meditation (TM), how transformational it is, how it’s different, and how to get started! It’s so so so good and I really hope ya’ll enjoy it! "You do a ton of introspection, which is awesome. So many of us avoid that level of introspection because of self-judgment. We're so used to being critical of ourselves that we end up avoiding exactly what you're doing...Do you struggle with that at all?" That was a direct quote from an Instagram DM that I received in July and I've only recently come to realize the importance of this person's observation. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by this same person for a mastermind a few months later and we realized some very important things regarding my mindset. But the questions still remains: how can we become less judgmental of ourselves? Well, in today's episode, I'm giving you 3 important tips to help change your mindset, your self-talk, and to give yourself more credit, all so that you become less judgmental. I'll be giving you examples from my real-life and from my work as a tutor because from so many of us, these are habits and thought patterns we've had since we were young.  Enjoy!  For show notes, head to coachellyn.com/podcast and, of course, post on Instagram and tag me @coachellyn so that I can shout you out and say thank you! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tbydl-podcast/message
Where are all my introverts at? I don’t know if you know this about me, but I identify as an introvert. Often, that statement is met with shock, but I am! I am such an introvert! And in today’s episode, I’m so excited to bring on Chelsey Brooke, a trained therapist who is on a mission to help introverted women better understand their introversion and realize what a  superpower it truly is! This episode is so near and dear to my heart as someone who identifies as an introvert and has felt misunderstood as an introvert, I love that this is Chelsey’s mission and she gives so many incredible tips that we can use to better our lives as introverts! The definition of Insanity: "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." We've all heard this. We all know this. Yet, so many of us do exactly this when it comes to achieving our goals. We get a plan in our head and we don't course-correct along the way to our goals...we do the same things OVER AND OVER again an expect to work. Isn't that definition of Insanity? Well, today, in this quick episode, I'm teaching you about one of my favorite practices - a weekly review and how it's the perfect solution to avoiding this exact pattern that so many of us fall into. Just 30-60 minutes each and every week and you save yourself from repeating the behaviors and habits that are sabotaging you. But you've gotta know what they are, right?! Today, I'm going to tell you about 3 important questions to ask during your review and HOW to use them! Keep this one handy and relisten to it next Sunday during your weekly review.  For show notes, head to coachellyn.com/podcast and, of course, post on instagram and tag me @coachellyn so that I can shout you out and say thank you! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tbydl-podcast/message
Let’s talk about stress…because if there’s anything that I think we can all relate to in this day and age, it’s stress and burnout. We live in a 24/7 society and so many of us are running on empty and struggling to manage it all! In today’s episode, we’re hearing from Phyllis Ginsberg. As a former Marriage and Family Therapist, Phyllis knew all about stress and overwhelm and how quickly life can go from feeling like you’re a success to you’re too damn overwhelmed and burned out to function. So, she went on a sabbatical and eventually became an expert in Positive Psychology, Brain Research, and EFT Tapping. Through these experiences, she developed a series of tools that she called her “Survival to Thrival” methods, aimed at helping people better manage their stress, overcome burnout and life lives where they’re more able to embrace possibility! Today, we’re going to be talking about overwhelm and stress from a very physiological perspective, how boundaries and struggles with identity and some things we can do to better manage the stress in our lives and overcome our own burnout. This is definitely one of those episodes where knowledge is power! And I cannot wait for you to learn all the awesome nuggets Phyllis has to teach us! Alright friends, #realtalk, for all my talk of discipline and systems, I have not been very disciplined lately. Yeah, you could look at my Instagram stories lately and say, "But Ellyn, you still get your workout in every day" and yea that's true. But beyond that and the day job, I haven't been on top of my s***.  Things have been falling through the cracks left, right and center. And that's not like me. I haven't been working on my personal projects, let alone moving the needle. I have been the queen of SNOOZE! And my TV watching has been next level...I'll admit it! It happens! Discipline, like anything else, is a practice! It's not something you have or you don't. it's something you maintain. And I hadn't been maintaining mine. It's happened before. And it will no doubt happen again. But what do we do when we want to get back on track after we've fallen out of it? Well, I've got 5 tips that have worked REALLY well for me before that I'm going to get back to ASAP! Veto the SNOOZE Button - And this is a topic that I could totes do a full podcast on later, so let me know! Time Block EVERYTHING - Not to lock you into a schedule, but to provide tangible proof of your priorities and the things you're committing to! Set Bette Boundaries - Particularly between your work and person life! Prioritize ME time - Because burn out is REAL friends and you're going to want and need time to recharge! Keep it SIMPLE AF - With everything and anything, until you can show up and do something in it's simplest form, don't overcomplicate it! If you're an achiever or someone who has ever struggled with BURNOUT and letting yourself take a DAMN BREAK...OR if you’re someone who is a navigating a big life and career transition and are feeling OVERWHELMED, then pay attention and tune into this episode because you need to hear it! Today on the podcast, we have my mentor and coach, Amber Lilyestrom. Amber is a transformational business coach and brand strategist, speaker, author, mentor and so much more! It's been a long time coming getting Amber on this podcast and I'll be completely honest...there was a part of me that I think felt a bit unworthy. But there was so much that I learned when I worked with Amber. I learned so much about balancing my perfectionism, have a little grace with myself, managing my desire to achieve, and softening when life is hard! She taught me that lesson and I STILL hear her voice in my head! In today's episode, she teaches all of us some of those same lessons. She talks about balancing that achiever, hard worker mentality with giving yourself what you need and so much more! I'm so excited to share it with you! If you're a perfectionist...an Enneagram type 3 achiever...this is probably the episode for you! ;-) For MOST of us, failure is something we're NOT a fan of. Especially in the process of trying to achieve our goals. And when we struggle, it can be REALLY easy for us to compare, to judge our worthiness and our value and to really get down on ourselves. This is an episode that was very inspired by my students and some of our conversations about failure. And recently, I had a 16-year-old student who said to me: "I feel like I learn more when I make a mistake..." and you best believe I got fired up and went into straight PREACHER mode. Because this student? She'd learned a lesson that many adults have yet to learn. And I was SO pumped. So, in today's episode, we're going to get REALLY REAL about failure. About the lessons that failure can teach us. How, like this student said, you truly do learn SO MUCH MORE when we make mistakes, when we fail. Failure? It's our BIGGEST TEACHER! It's an INSTRUMENTAL teacher. And I'm going to break down for you how you can learn to appreciate failure for exactly what it is and how it can help us! There are seasons to each year. We know this. Fall, winter, spring, summer...and we all know what each of those seasons bring, right? But, did you know that there are seasons of life too? In today's episode, we've got Amy Simpkins on the podcast. Amy is a former aeronautical engineer. She jokes that her mom would call her a former rocket scientist and she's not wrong. She was living the dream in her field, but got the itch to challenge herself and try something new and completely different. Since her rocket scientist days, she has two new businesses - a renewable energy company and a coaching business helping entrepreneurs tap into their inner innovator.  On today's podcast, she talks about identity, how it can ebb, flow and shift throughout the stages of your life and how the iterative processes engineers use actually apply to our lives and our growth as well! It's a fascinating new perspective that I have been applying to my life constantly since I was exposed to this idea and I'm so pumped to share it with you!
