Leadership

Leadership

2021-03-2614:47

This week I wanted to talk about leadership and what it means to be a leader. The word "Leadership" is a word that is thrown around loosely these days and can mean different things to different, but I'd like to tell you what the word means to me. Let me know what leadership means to you. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mrharrisryc/support
During one of our latest iBelong meetings, I brought up the idea of taking the right people with you on your life's journey and how impactful choosing the right people can be. In some instances it can make or break several years of your life. We should be associating ourselves with like minded individuals while also surrounding ourselves with people that are good at things we aren't. Take your time in figuring these people out and I'd like you to reassess the current givers and takers in your life. Who should stay and who should be phased out? Let me know if this is helpful and in a couple of weeks or I'd like to circle back and see if this was helpful to you in any way. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mrharrisryc/support
Be True to Yourself

Be True to Yourself

2021-03-0221:22

On today's episode I talk about the current change shortage at fast food restaurants in America and share a story about how I came across this shortage at a Chipotle. I also touch on the subject of being true to yourself and the idea and the idea of fitting in. We spoke about this at a recent iBelong meeting and I got some interesting feedback.  Share what your idea of being true to yourself is @mrharrisryc and use #mrharris in your message. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mrharrisryc/support
Zombies

Zombies

2021-02-2318:51

I did things a little different today and spoke about a random thought I had. I was looking around and even assessing myself and felt like people are becoming zombies with the whole Covid experience. It seems like we're all in a depressed state and not stimulating our minds. This state of being a zombie becomes a culture and to combat that, we have to surround ourselves with positive people and make better life decisions. Let's create goals for ourselves, whether they are longterm or short term and have a solid plan for ourselves going forward. Let's create some goals together and reach out to @mrharrisryc and use #mrharris in your message. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mrharrisryc/support
Poverty

Poverty

2021-02-1623:19

Poverty is the topic of discussion this week and more definitively, "Why it's easier to stay in poverty rather than strive for more?" One of our iBelong members is heard saying she wishes she could live in the projects and while that statement may be jarring to hear for some, it's commonplace for so many others. On this episode I'll be giving my response to that statement, talking about financial literacy, the middle and poor classes and our elected officials.  Please share your stories and ideas on this topic. Reach out to @mrharrisryc and use #mrharris in your message. While you're at it, please reach out to the elected officials in your district if you're serious about making a change in your community. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mrharrisryc/support
Race Relations

Race Relations

2021-02-0923:30

I'm back after a 28 month hiatus and will be uploading a new episode every Tuesday at 2:00pm. I hold a discussion with a young group of individuals every Wednesday and we call this group iBelong. In these meetings we discuss current events and local issues while trying to create plans to better ourselves and our communities. Going forward I'll be taking talking points from these discussions and creating a larger dialogue on "The Journey" podcast. On this episode I'll be touching on why as black and brown people, we don't support each other in our communities. Please share comments or questions on social media, or share your own experience with this topic: Reach out to @mrharrisryc and use #mrharris in your message. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mrharrisryc/support

As the CEO of a nonprofit, the Renaissance Youth Center, I'm frequently asked to measure the work we are doing. I know our high school graduation rates are good proof, but what about those midnight phone calls helping someone in crisis, or impacts we make on kids that surface a decade later? This episode, I'm joined by our employee James Doernberg, who writes grant proposals for us and thinks about our data a lot. I've talked about my Journey that led me to Social Development and helping youth pursue their dreams. But what does it take to do this work? Let me tell you, it's more than a full-time job... it's a lifestyle. The real work starts when you're off the clock. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mrharrisryc/support
