Depending on your field, sometimes they are one in the same, sometimes they are different. We are gonna talk about both. You don't need luck, you got this.
Enough said....
We talking about grants and fellowships. The difference betweeen the two and how to find the best option for you. Unfortunately, the more grants you get the more grants you get and you are more likely to get money when you have a track record of getting money. We hope this episode is helpful especially since it is fellowship season.
There's many types of research. Since it's the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year we are talking about research, the different types of research, and the best ways to get it done effectively. Get Ready For Season 2

Coming August 26th
Classes are over but that doesn't mean that we as grad students get a vacation. For our last episode of the academic school year and season, we discuss summer funding and insurance, planning field work, time management, writing, self care and how summer is kinda a vacation but not really. And last but certainly not least, we celebrate our very own Dr. Halsey! Follow us on social media: Instagram @BIJTG_Podcast and Twitter:@BIJTG_Podcast. Like, rate, subscribe and share.
On this episode, we talk about HBCUs and PWI from the perspectives of those who started out at a PWI or a HBCU and ultimately ended up at a PWI for graduate school. The major takeway is to not speak on experiences you don’t understand. If you never went to a HBCU, don't speak on it. If you never went to a PWI, don't speak on it. In the end, we are all educated, gaining skill sets and getting our degree.  Disclaimer: Our opinions are our own.

We are back from our spring break and admidst relaxing on the beach and finishing up a manuscript, we decided to research self-care and its importance to both your mental and physical health. From exercising, to cooking, to mediation, wash day and self reflections, they are many ways to enact self care. Don’t forget. Check up on your strong friend, be on the look out for all of your friends and listen when someone is telling you things are a bit rough right now. Check out our social media: Instagram @BIJTG_Podcast and Twitter:@BIJTG_Podcast as we share all of our strategies over the next week. Its the little things that count.
Coming to you live from Florida with a bottle of red wine, we talk about the angry black women trope and how even though we may have plenty of reasons to be angry, we aren’t. We are passionate about our research and refuse to let others invalidate us. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @BIJTG_Podcast
We just proud to be black!
We are back with a new episode. Today we are going to talking to you about the PhD interviewing process aka the most important day of your early career. Starting is PhD is hard and finding a lab that can match your research interest and style can be even harder. There are a lot of factors that can determine if a lab group is the best for you and if you will be able to thrive in that culture. All schools /lab groups have problems. It’s up to you to figure out whether which are deal breakers. You ultimately call the shots on where you go.
The path to earning your degree can be a bit bumpy. Alot of it is learning how to advocate for your self so that you have everything you need to succeed. We want to prevent you from getting into a funk. The psychology term for it is "Learned Helplessness" where you don't have the necessary skills/resources to get the work done. Much of our episode centers around Emotional Intelligence and how to use its principles to get through this multiple year journey of getting that degree.
