Recently my daughter, who is 11 has approached me and asked to, for me to teach her how to be a dungeon master, of course I was excited, but that excitement was quickly followed by, "Wait a minute, how am I going to do this?" When I started my Anchor podcast one of my intentions was to use it as a way of updating patrons on my projects and reveal some of the thoughts that go into the creation process. I don't know exactly how this will turn out, but I plan on posting these  Microbursts as audio journal entries for patrons first. I've been recording updates daily most often while inn my car on my commute to and from work and unfortunately the audio quality might not be the best. I am working on making improvements. If you have any suggestions for better recording in a moving tin can or any comments on today's microburst please contact me. This week's Design Diary is going to be a little bit of a change of pace. I had the opportunity this weekend to sit down and play with the Diary of a Middle School Freak game that I've been working on with my kids. And I wanted to talk a little bit about that. Dungeon Craft, and how Professor Dungeon Master sets up new players to play D&D Kirby's Kids Don't forget to chime in, because your ideas make my ideas better! For as long as I've had my Patreon I've been very focused on creating papercraft terrain and encounter maps, so much so that rarely was I making any 3-D terrain. And if I was making 3-D terrain it was mostly stuff that was papercraft.—paper buildings or trying to find new ways to create elevations using cardstock and print and paste techniques,  I don't know that I was paying attention to scale. I wasn't necessarily paying attention to the playability of some of these maps. I was just it's just laying stuff down and trying to imagine how characters and players would interact with the area and then I also discovered DungeonCraft, Professor Dungeon Master and his Ultimate Dungeon Terrain, I started working in a 3-D medium again and rewatching the old 60s Batman TV show and that really upped my 2-D terrain game! Have a great week. See you on the other side. How do you deal with creative block? Writer's block, artist's block, Is there such a thing as "terrain crafter's block"? For several months now I feel like I've been floundering. I know some part of that is just analysis paralysis or just having way too many things to choose from. There's this point at which I tend to shut down if there are way too many options are way too many things going on. It's like going to a new restaurant and looking at a menu and you want everything on the menu, and you just don't know what to choose. This can be very frustrating for me, as a creator. I had a creative breakthrough though, and while it's not the direction I originally wanted to go in,  it' is a direction that is working. When I'm able to get past the creative block and creating again, that gets me excited! Don't forget to chime in, because your ideas make my ideas better! Sometimes things aren't always black and white, sometimes they are. In this Design Diary, I talk about why I feel it's important to maintain a dialogue with the people who support my work. I was working on those new, 3-D styled, more realistic looking dungeons. When I showed them off to a friend of mine, his response in seeing them was not what I expected. His first response was, "Are you going to do black and white versions too?" Am I really that out of touch with what the gaming community wants? I feel like it's been a really long summer break. And unfortunately, it's not the type of break where I got a vacation. It's been a while since I've done any kind of audio journal, summer has been a lot more busy than it has in the past. I don't transition well, and I don't, I don't do change very well. So takes me a while to get back into a routine or change my routine. Meanwhile, I was thinking back to my first episode where I was talking about consistency, and my lack of consistency. And I don't know that much has changed since that first podcast about two years ago, I'm still pretty inconsistent. And the hardest thing for me is getting started on a project. And the second hardest thing for me is finishing a project. Somewhere in between is the lack of consistency, especially with large spans of time between projects. I would like to be able to change that and get better at it. Don't forget to chime in, because your ideas make my ideas better! This week I'm slowly getting back on track with time management,  task tracking, and the need to journal and setting up specific times.  Task tracking has made me realize my need for another organization tool for world and adventure creation is its World Anvil? It was a long 4 day Memorial Day weekend for me and while I was offline hanging out with my family  most of the time, the mice still played with the toys in the attic. This week I talk more on my continuing struggles with time management and focus, being lazy, Sci-fi Tiles and maps, refining the new 2.5D style, and what podcast would be complete without an encouraging voicemail from the anchorite Cheerleader—The Happy Whisk pulling a "Jackson." Wow 3 weeks already! When I started my Anchor podcast one of my intentions was to use it as a way of updating patrons on my projects and reveal some of the thoughts that go into the creation process. I don't know exactly how this will turn out, but I plan on posting these audio journal entries for patrons first and then assembling them into a regular design diary. This one was recorded as a stream of consciousness during my morning commute. I tried to edit it down to a reasonable length and take out a lot of the really obvious side adventures that really didn't seem to go anywhere. I hope you find this interesting, entertaining, and useful. I love using published adventures but one of the things that frustrates me about them is the amount of prep that I need to do when I'm getting ready to run a game, but for the most part, there's a limited amount of information that you need for running the game at the table. Does a published adventure need to have a high word count or could an adventure really just be a series of notes? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/frankt/support

In today's microburst I talk about recycling. I'm not "cheap", I'm frugal, and today I am repurposing an old iPhone to record this microburst while on the road. As a result, I'm asking myself how much material is ok to reuse from one product to another?
