The Tulsa men have won 6 straight games by an average of 14 points and are playing their best ball of the season, but the most important week of the regular season looms large. A Florida road trip against two of the best teams in the league: FAU (a Tier B opportunity on KenPom) and USF (Tier A).We recap Tulsa's big home wins over North Texas and Wichita State before previewing the huge week in front of us.After that, we talk women's hoops, ask what happened to the Havoc in the Heartland, and recap all of the other active sports happening at TU right now.Chapters:0:00 - Intro01:23 - Men's Hoops Recap24:31 - Men's Hoops Preview41:27 - Women's Hoops Recap51:01 - Women's Hoops Preview53:04 - What Happened to Havoc in the Heartland?55:17 - Football Notes56:09 - Women's Golf58:20 - Men's Tennis01:00:34 - Women's Tennis01:03:18 - Softball01:05:09 - Outro
Matt is back from vacation so it is time to talk some hoops! The men have played a dominant four-game stretch with wins over Charlotte, UAB, Memphis and Rice, showing there was no need to start panicking after dropping two in a row to UNT and USF. We talk most about the Memphis and Rice wins, Memphis tears, and the big stretch the team has coming up (UNT, WSU x2 and USF).The women are back to trading off wins and losses, dropping a game against Rice at home before grinding out a tough win on the road against UNT. Fortunately they have a chance to get two home wins when they host FAU and Memphis this week.We also talk some portal updates, tennis and women’s golf.
Tulsa men's hoops had the best start to a season since the Bill Self era. However, after losing two (2) more games, many are once again asking if Eric Konkol is the guy for the job. We discuss. Also: * Women's basketball has won 5 straight and is 3-0 in The American with Mady Cartwright coming off the game of her life* The Tulsa Portal House is in full swing* What's the deal with Ryan Switzer and Kevin Barbay?
Your 2025 S̶p̶o̶t̶i̶f̶y̶ Football Wrapped is here! We revisit our preseason Players of the Year predictions (offense, defense, and breakout), award who actually wins them, and recap the 2025 football season from a high level. Was it a success? How do we evaluate Tre Lamb, Josh Reardon, and the gang in year one? Very fun discussion here. After that, we talk bowl season + Tulane and JMU in the playoff, men's basketball on a historic run, women's basketball not looking quite as good as we're used to, and more.Join us on Discord! Tulsa football has swept the OSUs thus far. Only one remains in D1 football: Ohio State. Bring on the Buckeyes.Ryan is back from pheasant hunting + a week long trip to Berlin, and we catch up on what was a big week in Tulsa sports. Football dominated Oregon State, men's hoops is 3-1 and just lost a road nail-biter to Kansas State, and women's hoops is undefeated. We talk about all of that, then wrap with a roundup of (almost) all the other active sports at TU.
There are only four games left in the football season and every game is a must win. Hosting solo this week Matt breaks down some of the stats behind the FAU matchup and why he thinks Tulsa can come out of the bye with a win.Additionally he looks at the basketball season opener and the other sports on campus.
Tulsa Football played its best game of the year on Homecoming, but came up just short against a very solid Temple team in dramatic overtime fashion. We talk about the choice to go for two, the play call, the Baylor <-> Brody connection, the growth of the team, and plenty more. After that, since we've got another bye week coming up, friend of the show J.J. Cody-Fox joins the podcast for our annual "J.J.'s No Sports Zone" segment! Always love chatting with J.J. about anything & everything EXCEPT sports. Also - it's officially basketball season! The men's team played their exhibition game against East Central University on Tuesday, beating them 94-56, and have their first regular season game next week, so we spend a bit of time on men's hoops as well.
Tulsa Head Men's Basketball Coach Eric Konkol joins the podcast to preview the 2025-26 basketball season! We break down the roster including all 12 new players, talk the schedule and why it is the way it is, ask what success means for this team, and get into some fun listener questions. Plus a lightning round! Always love having coach on the show and we're grateful for his time. After that, we recap the ECU loss, take a look around what was a big week for the conference, preview this Saturday's Homecoming game vs a solid Temple team, and round it out with a look across all other active TU sports.Really fun one this week. Hope you enjoy it!
Second verse, hopefully much better than the first.Tulsa just wrapped bye #1 on the year and, with that, is past all of the hardest teams on their schedule. ECU is no joke though, checking in at #68 in ESPN's SP+ rankings this week.To help us preview Thursday night's road game against the Pirates, we welcome in Jared Shafit from The Boneyard Podcast! Always a blast chatting with him. Also in this episode:* A quick basketball overview as we get closer to basketball season (full preview coming next week)* Around the American* TU sports roundup
First things first: We have a Patreon! It's by far the best way to support this podcast. Ryan just published a new post breaking down how things are going across all 7 active TU fall sports now that we're at the midpoint of the season for most of them. Check it out here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/fall-sports-2025-140596354On to football. Tulsa had a tough first-half of the season and capped that off with a 45-7 shellacking at the hands of the Memphis Tigers. We discuss what's worth taking away from that game and recap the bright spots: Elijah Green! That one touchdown pass! But now we are at the first of two bye weeks and the schedule looks a lot more competitive for the Golden Hurricane going forward. We close things out with a look Around the American and conclude with our fall sports roundup.Read Ryan's new post on Patreon - Fall Sports Halftime: 2025Support the show by joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/thegoldenhurricast
After the historic win over Oklahoma State, Tulsa came back down to earth with Saturday’s loss to Tulane in the Battle of the Color-Based Water Phenomena. We do our best to break down the game (having not been able to watch it in its entirety) and talk what’s next for the football team this season. After that, we talk about some breaking news in the athletic department, look forward to Saturday's road test at Memphis, and wrap it up by looking around campus at our other fall sports.
For the first time since November 3, 1951, Tulsa went into Stillwater and came away with a road win against Oklahoma State. That's the kind of program-changing, culture-building win head coach Tre Lamb has been looking for in his first season. "New Tulsa" might be just be here after all.For the first time ever on the show, we bring in a guest to help us RECAP a Tulsa game! Phillip Slavin from the Ten12 Podcast and Ten12 Network joins us to break it all down. After that, we talk EVEN MORE Tulsa - OSU before welcoming in Jack Chasanoff from The Uptown Update to preview this Saturday's home game vs Tulane at 3:00 central on ESPNU.We close things out by recapping all the other sports happening at TU right now, specifically the sad state of the men's soccer program and the extremely not-sad state of the volleyball program, which is turning into a powerhouse before our eyes under head coach Lauren Ramatowski.
Tulsa forced 3 turnovers in Navy's first 3 possessions to go up 14-0, but TU couldn't keep up the momentum and the Navy train rolled right over us for the rest of the game.We discuss the awesome start from the defense, Baylor Hayes, the lack of a deep ball so far, and more before awarding our players of the game and taking a look around what continues to be an incredible start for The American. After that, we welcome in Calvin Alexander from The CGA Tour to help us preview this Friday's game at Oklahoma State - a massive game for both programs. Also, Matt has a new article on Patreon about what a "successful" first season under Tre Lamb would be! Check out his post here and join our Patreon to support the show and unlock a bunch more bonus content: patreon.com/thegoldenhurricast
Tulsa Football followed a hot game 1 against Abilene Christian with a disappointing road performance at New Mexico State. However, as we discuss, you can definitely still find plenty of reasons for optimism going forward. Can the team get their swagger back in their American Conference opener at home vs Navy this Saturday? We will see.To learn more about this year's Midshipmen, we welcome in Mike James from The Mid Report and the Navy Football Radio Network. Mike's doing color commentary for Navy Football alongside Keenan Reynolds (yes that Keenan Reynolds), which is extremely cool. Always love talking with him. After previewing Navy, we round out the episode by digging into some absolutely incredible weeks from the other sports happening at TU right now, particularly by the volleyball team, women's soccer team, and women's golf team.
