Description

Creatively Human is a podcast for online business owners and creatives, with conversations that dive deep into why we do what we do, the struggles and wins we face along the way, and how we fit it all into the kind of life we want to live. Plus a few solo episodes from me on the simultaneously rewarding and challenging experience of online business, creativity and entrepreneurship. My hope for this podcast is simple: that we can connect with each other as humans living life and doing business in a creative way.

I’m Ruth Poundwhite, and I’ve been running my online business in some form since 2008. I’m all about creating and growing businesses that are not only profitable, but that truly fit around our lives and values. Find more at ruthpoundwhite.com

In today’s interview I chat with mindset coach and success strategist Nicolina Werther all about what it means to be highly sensitive vs. introverted vs. an empath, and the benefits and drawbacks of attaching ourselves to those labels. We also talk about shyness, selling and the importance of stretching your comfort zone. In this solo episode I'm sharing some behind the scenes updates, realisations, lessons and mindset shifts (& blocks!) that have been coming up for me over the last few months of some big business growth and shifts. // A lot of what I talk about here is about running my business in line with what feels good, which is something I'm going to be sharing a lot more in my upcoming course, Aligned Offers (closing November 25th): https://ruthpoundwhite.com/offers/ For episode show notes & links, head to https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast/ Join the Quietly Ambitious Business Owners Facebook group to continue the conversation: https://www.facebook.com/groups/QuietlyAmbitiousBusinessOwners/  Sign up to email updates and 3 exclusive bonus podcast episodes: https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast
Today I’m chatting to Helen Redfern, a self-confessed unconfident writer, who is constantly pushing herself to become braver with her writing and creativity. As you can imagine, we dove right into the topic of creating confidence to share your creative work with the world, and the role social media plays in that (both positive and negative). We also spoke a lot about Instagram and some important realisations Helen had after taking a long break from showing up there (something I’ve been considering a lot for myself, too). Today I have the absolute pleasure of talking to my mastermind sister Genevieve Parker Hill: international bestselling author, speaker, coach and leading expert in the fields of minimalism, intentional living, nomad lifestyle, and creative growth. Genevieve has been featured in many outlets including Elle Canada and Complete Wellbeing Magazine. She's published five books of her own and now helps people turn their solo podcast episodes into books. She is also totally on board with the philosophy of doing less to make more happen in your life and business! Today’s interview is with the brilliant Kate Northrup, and it's all about doing less, being supported in life & business, and doing the work that is true to you and what you believe (plus a few lessons from the pandemic so far). It was wonderful to interview somebody who truly is one of my business idols. Kate is author of the book Do Less, and is committed to supporting ambitious women to light up the world without burning themselves out. Today’s episode is something a little different for the Creatively Human podcast. When I interviewed the 10 guests from season 4, I asked them all the same bonus question and didn’t include their answers in the original episodes. The question was: how do you keep showing up for your business even when it’s hard? This episode features their words of wisdom, from building your support network, to trusting that the right people will hear what you have to say, and being kind to yourself. I hope it gives you some gentle encouragement to keep going even though you sometimes feel like giving up (and we all do feel that way sometimes). Welcome to a brand new season of the podcast. It has been a longer break than originally planned, so in this episode I go into what's happening behind the scenes and what's changing with the podcast. And as we're approaching the two year podcast anniversary, I am asking for your reviews (lets get to 100 by the end of October!) and your questions for an upcoming live Q&A. Today's episode is a conversation on joy with Danielle Brooker. We discuss what leading with joy means and looks like, the process of getting to know yourself and what feels good, why we don’t always choose joy, and what joy means in practice when we’re going through genuinely hard times. I can’t tell you how wonderful it makes me feel chatting about this stuff with Danielle, so I know you’re going to love it too. Today's solo episode is all about identifying the roles, labels and identities that get in the way of our goals, what we think is possible or what we're allowed to achieve. It's an exercise that is crucial to owning who we are and what we want, unapologetically (as humans and as business owners). It's one of the exercises included in my course, Quiet Ambition, which is opening up again on Monday, June 29th for two days only (find out more at https://ruthpoundwhite.com/quiet-ambition/) For episode show notes & links, head to https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast/   Join the Creatively Human Facebook group to continue the conversation: https://www.facebook.com/groups/creativelyhuman/   Sign up to email updates and 3 exclusive bonus podcast episodes: https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast
Today's episode is all about going through burnout and deciding to do things radically differently. I chat with Imogen Roy about prioritising your energy, prioritising your body, doing what makes you feel good and ultimately, how all of that leads to good things for your business (even though it feels scary). Strategy coach Imogen Roy went through a big burnout herself, before deciding to radically shake things up in what she calls her Year of Magical Living. I absolutely love this topic, and I hope you enjoy it too. Today's solo episode comes right from the heart. I didn't make any notes, I just came to talk about what I would say to myself two years ago when I first started showing up and getting visible. It's all about enjoying the journey, stretching my comfort zone, and finding my voice. I'm getting vulnerable in this one! (This is a huge part of the work I do with my 1:1 clients. I currently have space for new clients - find out more here: https://ruthpoundwhite.com/mentoring/) For episode show notes & links, head to https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast/ Join the Quietly Ambitious Business Owners Facebook group to continue the conversation: https://www.facebook.com/groups/QuietlyAmbitiousBusinessOwners/  Sign up to email updates and 3 exclusive bonus podcast episodes: https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast
Today's episode is digging into all things mindset with Jemma Andrew-Adiamah, certified well being coach, blogger and retreat host. Topics include positive self talk, self-limiting beliefs, taking care of yourself, shifting from a negative to a positive mindset and the difference we each feel that makes in our businesses. Today's episode is about feeling fulfilled in business, what I think of that concept, and some things I've found that can help with fulfilment. Because for me, and many of the sensitive business owners listening, we might have big money goals but we also want to do work that matters and that feels like us. Today I’m chatting to wellness business coach Vicky Shilling, about overcoming the fear of judgement from other people. It’s something we all have to deal with as we put ourselves out there online. We talked about how we deal with that fear, why taking imperfect action is so important, looking at other people’s reactions to us objectively, and that huge fear of our family and friends watching what we’re doing online. How things can change in the space of a couple of weeks, eh? I decided it wasn’t time to release the solo episodes I had planned. So instead, I’m re-releasing an episode from last year, all about those times when you have nothing to say, and when you’re not getting much done. Please know that this was recorded before any of this stuff happened. I may say things in this episode that don’t quite apply. But I hope it brings some comfort to you during these times. And please know that I am here for you, come join us in the Quietly Ambitious Business Owners Facebook group where we are all supporting each other to adjust to this new normal. And, honestly, I believe in the power of online business now more than ever. If you want to learn more about how I’m carrying on with business during the crisis then head to my blog where I just shared my thoughts about showing up, selling, and carrying on when things feel very uncertain and different. Anyway, I really hope today’s episode helps. Enjoy! Some of the things covered in this episode: Embracing the "fertile void" (and the four phrases of creation by Kate Northrup) Hiding away, having nothing to say, and what it tells us about what we need How I approach taking breaks and not always being consistent in my business Practical tips to make content creation & showing up online easier Knowing when inspiration is needed vs. times when you need to shut out external noise Embracing the benefits of the quiet times “Deep, true creativity doesn’t emerge despite the deep pause; it emerges because of it” - Kate Northrup   For episode show notes & links, head to https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast/
Today’s episode is on something I’ve been wanting to talk about for a while: all things woo! I’m speaking to experienced business owner Jane Lindsay, who helps people connect with the life they want through her popular membership community Snapdragon Studio. We discuss the woo habits and rituals we use in our business, the role of intuition, and how woo actually helps us cope with the rollercoaster of running our businesses.
