Sean Strickland defied all odds and knocked out Anthony Hernandez proving that, despite how he talks and fights, he's still a top tier middleweight.🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! Episode 008 is out now: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLx7TZlIVGhDZ_TpnOtVEVSXmkpr_ViExz&si=J8DZ9G6a-RvTaMOv🥊 Boxing channel: Youtube.com/@UCFN50W4bPM2xdW78XLyv2fQ 📰 Substack: fightlibrary.substack.comChapters:0:00 Why Sean Strickland beat Anthony Hernandez5:45 Sean Strickland is so frustrating to fight8:22 Sean Strickland vs Khamzat ChimaevThe plan was simple: If Sean Strickland can get the jab going early, he can slow down the snowball effect-style that Anthony Hernandez uses. That's exactly what happened. Fluffy had no way of getting inside and getting to a clinch. And when he did, he lacked the ability to finish the takedown there. Sean Strickland used this to his advantage and kept doing what he always does. It's that jab and the teep that make Sean Strickland so frustrating to fight. He's had success against great fighters, like Israel Adesanya, but also laid some stinkers (Alex Pereira, Kamaru Usman). Strickland's frustrating style has carried him far and brought him the title. This is why he's been successful. He knows what he does and sticks to it. There's no getting too fancy. There's hardly any deviation. Just discipline to what got him to the dance. That brings us to the big question: Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev looks indomitable. Invincible even. Does Sean Strickland really have what it takes to dethrone the Chechen champion? We don't personally think so. Then again, we thought Anthony Hernandez and Israel Adesanya would beat him too and look how that turned out. There's no real point in saying "Strickland loses to Chimaev, don't even book the fight." We have to lock them in the cage and find out for ourselves.
Sean Strickland seems like he's doomed against Anthony Hernandez. But there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this fight. Today we sit down with Vince Morales, the UFC bantamweight contender, to discuss the main event of UFC Houston.🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! For a good reason. But Sean Strickland is unlike any other fighter in the UFC's middleweight division. Vince Morales and Blaine Henry talk about the main event, approaches to how the fight should go down, and what makes this fight interesting.Sean Strickland's tools to stifle the pressure of Fluffy are effective, that we already know. We saw Kevin Holland use push kicks to slow down Anthony Hernandez early on and, while that fight was short, Strickland can use those same weapons to extend the fight and work his game. Should he be able to hurt Anthony Hernandez coming forward, the pressure will subside. That said, we still lean Anthony Hernandez. Sean Strickland is on his way out and Fluffy is on the way up. His pressure is suffocating and if he can deal with the two weapons from Sean Strickland that give him trouble, he can have a standout performance. Anthony Hernandez vs Khamzat Chimaev is the most interesting fight in the division. Maybe it's just wishful thinking.#stricklandfluffy #ufchouston #seanstricklandvsfluffyhernandez
Diego Lopes was dominated again by Alexander Volkanovski. The fight was one sided and you could have put the first fight on and nobody would have known the difference.🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! The fight was not as much of a challenge as the first fight and old man Volkanovski did the job as he always does. Between the first and second fight, Diego Lopes did not get good enough. He struggled to find meaningful offense against Alexander Volkanovski and now he's in the back of the line. But we have to have a conversation about how good Alexander Volkanovski is in the legacy of the sport. The co-main event of UFC 325 was a Benoit Saint-Denis win over hometown favorite Dan Hooker. Dan Hooker had a good plan at the start but in the end, it didn't even matter. Benoit Saint-Denis struggled with the initial gameplan of Dan Hooker but he overcame the body kicks and got Dan Hooker to the ground. From there, it was only a formality.Mauricio Ruffy also had a great finish after some adjustments against Rafael Fiziev. Fiziev is a tough fighter for anyone and Mauricio Ruffy had a hard task in front of him. Ruffy was pushed to the fence and was incredibly uncomfortable. But once he settled in with the pressure from Rafael Fiziev, he knocked out the Muay Thai sensation and notched his career best win.
Diego Lopes is rematching Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 325 and Blaine Henry asks Luke Thomas “For what?”🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! Both Luke Thomas and Blaine Henry do not agree. Diego Lopes showed that he's a very good fighter and that he can compete with the best. While we're both cold on Diego Lopes rematching, the fight itself isn't a bad one at all. With Alexander Volkanovski aging and the precedent set by Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett last weekend, UFC 325 has a main event primed for action.Beating Jean Silva had a bunch to do with the title shot for Diego Lopes. Jean Silva was promised a title shot if he won. Instead, he was finished by the Brazilian title contender. Now Diego Lopes gets the chance at redemption against Alexander Volkanovski. Not much seems like it changed for Diego Lopes. Watching him versus Alexander Volkanovski and, subsequently Jean Silva, doesn't show much change. Luke Thomas points out that Alexander Volkanovski is a completely different fighter from Jean Silva as well. We will find out what happens in a few short days at UFC 325!
Justin Gaethje reclaimed the interim lightweight title at UFC 324 as he battered Paddy Pimblett to start the Paramount era.Chapters:0:00 Justin Gaethje vs Paddy Pimblett14:04 Sean O'Malley vs Song Yadong19:37 Jean Silva vs Arnold Allen24:15 Umar Nurmagomedov vs Deiveson FigueiredoJustin Gaethje got that dog in him. He dared Paddy Pimbett to do something different, to be tough. While Paddy Pimblett was tough, it wasn't tough enough. Justin Gaethje beat Pimblett from pillar to post. He claimed the interim title and presumably a date with Ilia Topuria for the undisputed title. Paddy Pimblett, while not elite, showed that he is still a great fighter at UFC 324. He just ran into legacy, one that couldn't be denied.Sean O'Malley bounced back from his back to back losses to Merab Dvalishvili as well. He fought Song Yadong at UFC 324 and was simply a step ahead the entire time. To beat a cerebral fighter like Sean O'Malley, Song Yadong needed more than one approach. Unlike Justin Gaethje, he couldn't hammer his way home to such a tactician. Sean O'Malley is likely rematching Petr Yan now and the bantamweight division churns on.Jean Silva bounced back from his loss to Diego Lopes as well. He beat a tough Arnold Allen soundly and showed the world that he's among the best featherweights in the world. Like Song Yadong, Arnold Allen couldn't change gears, do something different. That allowed Jean Silva back into a fight he was losing after the first round. Now Jean Silva is back and he's shown that the title is still within his grasps after his win at UFC 324.This card provided lesson after lesson. Umar Nurmagomedov was seen as another potential contender to Petr Yan. He was to fight Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 324. While the cage was locked behind both men, one would struggle to call it "fighting." The fight was boring to say the least. Umar Nurmagomedov was content to coast and Deiveson Figueiredo acted like he didn't know he was supposed to try.
Paddy Pimblett has the most to win at UFC 324. He's facing off with Justin Gaethje and life can either be great or miserable for Paddy Pimblett.🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! Arman Tsarukyan and Ilia Topuria should be fighting this weekend. They're clearly the best two lightweights in the world. Justin Gaethje has a case to be made. But Paddy Pimblett doesn't deserve the title shot he's been granted. But he will look to seize the opportunity this weekend as he tries to claim the interim lightweight title. The fight with Justin Gaethje is very nuanced. On paper, Justin Gaethje should maul Paddy Pimblett. The UK does everything wrong for Gaethje to exploit. But Justin Gaethje hasn't looked great lately. He's 37, on the tail end of his career. This fight is compelling not because it's the two lightweights in the world. In fact it is compelling in spite of that. UFC 324's main event is compelling because of the nuances like Paddy Pimblett's size, Justin Gaethje's age, and the arrival to Paramount for the UFC.Perhaps the biggest question is that of Paddy Pimblett's resume. He's beat great names on paper: Bobby Green, Tony Ferguson, Michael Chandler. But the caveat is that they're all old, out of their own primes. Justin Gaethje is kind of that, too, but not seen the same. Paddy Pimblett is still seen to be taking his biggest test at UFC 324.So make your pick. Who wins at UFC 324? Does Paddy Pimblett continue his unlikely rise or will Justin Gaethje get one more crack at undisputed UFC gold?#ufc324preview #paddyjustin #gaethjepaddy
With the UFC's ESPN era finally over, we have to ask ourselves if it was for the best. Just a week after it seemed like Tatsuro Taira was to be next to challenge for the title, Manel Kape comes and shakes things up. He batters up Brandon Royval, remains cool under pressure, and gets the first round finish. Brandon Royval, a perennial contender, met his maker as Manel Kape finished him, the first to knock him out if we discount the Brandon Moreno fight (shoulder injury). Manel Kape will now challenge Joshua Van for the flyweight title.Kevin Vallejos just earned himself a ranking in the featherweight division. He knocked out Giga Chikadze with a spinning back fist that was absolutely electric. Now Kevin Vallejos joins the new blood of 145 with Jean Silva (rematch, pls?), Steve Garcia, Youssef Zalal and more. Kevin Vallejos is a problem in the division, however. He's now ranked and will make his case to move up for the title in an aging division.Melquizael Costa snagged a fourth win on the year. He knocked out Morgan Charriere in a massive way to put a stamp on his most successful year to date. Another fantastic addition to the featherweight division alongside Kevin Vallejos, Melquizael Costa is making his own path. Morgan Charriere drops another big fight and further proves that, while exciting, he's not top level as a fighter and serves as a launching point for fighters like Melquizael Costa and Chepe Marischal.Buchecha, the trillion time BJJ champion, made his sophomore walk to the octagon. He took on Kennedy Nzechukwu and was bailed out by the ever-cheating Kennedy Nzechukwu poking him in the eye. Buchecha doesn't have what it takes to be an elite fighter in the UFC despite his jiu jitsu acumen. That said, let's not cut him. The fight with Merab Dvalishvili seemed like a foregone conclusion after the two’s first meeting. Instead, Petr Yan stole the show at UFC 323, recapturing the throne that was once his after an illegal knee saw him abdicate said crown. He approached the Merab Dvalishvili fight with a perfect gameplan that exploited the Georgian’s heavy schedule in 2025. Alexandre Pantoja also saw his reign come to an end, but on the most gruesome of terms. Only 26 seconds into his fight with Joshua Van, Alexandre Pantoja dislocated his elbow and it a gruesome sight. Joshua Van becomes the second youngest champion in UFC history and Alexandre Pantoja’s arm is pretty much shot. Brandon Moreno was handed the task of fending off new blood for the flyweight division, Tatsuro Taira. Taira was one fight removed from his close fight with Brandon Royval. Many thought he had nothing for the ever-scrambly Brandon Moreno. The first round didn’t look promising. But the second saw an adjusted Tatsuro Taira who went in, got the finish, and got out. Now, knowing Alexandre Pantoja’s injury, it seems Tatsuro Taira has set himself up for a title fight at UFC 323. Payton Talbott took Henry Cejudo out to the pasture at UFC 323. The Olympic champion made it clear that this was his final fight and Payton Talbott had no qualms beating up the old man. Talbott looked incredible. He was on point striking and his grappling against the former Olympic champion made the loss to Raoni Barcelos a distant memory. Look out, Payton Talbott is a problem at 135. #petryanvsmerabdvalishvili #yanvsmerab #merabvspetryan

But Blaine Henry and Miguel Class think that “The Machine” is on the decline. But Petr Yan may not be the one to beat him this time around. While Petr Yan will likely look better at UFC 323 than the first fight, don’t bank on him dethroning Merab Dvalishvili. We’re not saying it’s impossible, but we are saying that Petr Yan hasn’t shown the tools to beat Merab Dvalishvili. Merab Dvalishvili is slowing down, but he’s going to defend his title a fourth time this year.In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja is defending his title against a newcomer to the flyweight division. Joshua Van made huge waves on the scene after his barn burner war with Brandon Royval. Now, he’s stepping up to the plate against the kingpin of the division. Joshua Van is great but Alexandre Pantoja is no joke. He marched down Kai Kara-France, fighting like a maniac. Joshua Van will have to either harden in the fire, or he will be consumed by it. UFC 323 will be a king making of the Burmese contender or a confirmation that Alexandre Pantoja is he.We also will touch upon Brandon Royval vs Tatsuro Taira, Henry Cejudo vs Payton Talbott and the rest of UFC 323.

Islam Makhachev didn't get the chance to fight him. Ilia Topuria seemingly doesn't want to fight him. That can only mean one thing: Arman Tsarukyan needs to beat the snot out of Dan Hooker. He did just that at UFC Qatar. Arman Tsarukyan is a special talent and the hardest challenge for either Ilia Topuria or Islam Makhachev. He just needs to get the big fight. Ian Machado-Garry had a career best win over Belal Muhammad, the former welterweight champion, at UFC Qatar as well. Scoring a one sided decision, Ian Machado-Garry threw his name in the "Wants to fight Islam Makhachev" hat that includes Michael Morales, Shavkat Rakhmonov and others. Ian Machado-Garry may have the best case, however. He's got wins over Carlos Prates, another top five fighter, and now a former champion. Dagestan vs Ireland 2, anyone? Also returning to the UFC in Qatar, Kyoji Horiguchi is back. Nine years out of the promotion and now the Japanese sensation has returned, likely to the top ten. With Alexandre Pantoja running a second lap on the flyweight division, a new contender in Kyoji Horiguchi is completely welcome as a new threat.

Islam Makhachev dominated Jack Della Maddalena. It wasn't even a contest. Now a two weight champion, it's not Carlos Prates, Kamaru Usman or Michael Morales that Islam Makhachev is chasing, it's Jon Jones, Demetrious Johnson and Georges St-Pierre. Islam Makhachev left UFC 322 an absolute legend and a top five all time MMA fighter.Unlike Jack Della Maddalena, Valentina Shevchenko defended her title against someone trying to capture their second. Weili Zhang didn't have a chance, sadly. Valentina Shevchenko was just too large for the women's strawweight champion to win her second title. Now Valentina Shevchenko has a date with, perhaps, Kayla Harrison as she tries to get her own second title.Despite bludgeoning Sean Brady, Michael Morales isn't on my hype radar yet, which is crazy because he's going to be a top three fighter come Tuesday. But Sean Brady has only beat Kelvin Gastelum, Gilbert Burns and Leon Edwards. While that looks good on paper, they're all seemingly past their prime. Sean Brady was prime to be exposed at UFC 322 and Michael Morales was the man to get it done. Unfortunately, Michael Morales needs to be figured out and it might be Islam Makhachev to do so.Carlos Prates had an all time aura moment. He took on the former champion Leon Edwards and put him out cold. After being out grappled in the first round, Carlos Prates did the thing. Unfortunately, that tells us much of what we need to know about Carlos Prates fighting Islam Makhachev. Benoit Saint-Denis sparked Beneil Dariush in the first fight on the card. Now I'm convinced: Benoit Saint-Denis is title bound eventually. He and Ilia Topuria will be a barn burner as long as the fight lasts.

Raoni Barcelos had a hard time getting fights while he was younger but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous now that he’s of age.

Ante Delija, teammate of the one-eyed Tom Aspinall, went on record saying he’d never poked anyone in the eye during his 33 fight career. Only to go and poke Waldo Cortes Acosta in the eye, finish him, have the fight restarted, and to get knocked out. Waldo Cortes Acosta will have a hard time claiming a title shot just yet. Ciryl Gane, Alexander Volkov, and Sergei Pavlovich have a shot before them. Norma Dumont and Ketlen Vieira were buried on the prelims but it was arguably a number one contender fight. Ketlen Vieira controlled the fight on the ground. But with last week’s judging with Jailton Almeida, we kept to the same standard and Norma Dumont was declared the winner. Now we will likely get Norma Dumont challenging either Kayla Harrison or Amanda Nunes for the title. One fight is better than the other. #stevegarcia #garciaonama #meanmachine

Ciryl Gane poked Tom Aspinall in the eye early in the fight and Tom Aspinall was not able to continue. But Ciryl Gane was the winner in this “fight” by busting up Tom Aspinall’s nose. But Aspinall left the champion and Ciryl Gane will get yet another title shot. Does Tom Aspinall beat Ciryl Gane? Jon Jone? Alex Pereira? It’s all up in the air now. Mackenzie Dean is the UFC women’s strawweight champion. After Weili Zhang vacated the title to move to flyweight and challenge Valentina Shevchenko, the UFC booked a rematch between Mackenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba for the vacant strap. Mackenzie Dean was prepared for the exact plan that Virna Jandiroba brought to the table. Where Jandiroba was good, Mackenzie Dern was the perfect counter to. Welcome to the champion’s ranks, Dern! Tatiana Suarez next?Umar Nurmagomedov got back into the win column after his first career loss to Merab Dvalishvili. He took on a dangerous-ish fight against Mario Bautista. Mario Bautista was a dangerous fighter and one who nearly put out Umar Nurmagomedov in the second. That said, Umar Nurmagomedov showed that he is an incredible fighter and one that actually could beat Merab. Book the rematch? Or should Umar Nurmagomedov fight again?Alexander Volvo and Jailton Almeida brings forth an interesting question: how much is the UFC changing? Jailton Almeida won the fight with Alexander Volkov based on 2017 rules. But it’s 2025 and damage is the king of the cage now.
Tom Aspinall is seen as the heavy favorite going into his fight with Ciryl Gane at UFC 321. But that should not be the case. But don't let Ciryl Gane's sketchy past fool you: this is a hard fight for Tom Aspinall. Styles make fights and Ciryl Gane lost to Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou, two of the best heavyweights ever. Feno and Blaine Henry talk about the jaded view of Ciryl Gane going into his fight with Tom Aspinall, why the odds makers got it wrong, and who we think will win at UFC 321.Finally, we get into the big rumor: Alex Pereira. Should the Brazilian king make a heavyweight debut, would it be interesting to see him fight Tom Aspinall or Ciryl Gane should the Jon Jones fight never materialize?
Reinier de Ridder straight up quit. Not talking about throwing in the towel, I am talking about the fight in general. Brendan Allen broke the Dutchman.🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! He broke down Reinier de Ridder and derailed the hype train that the Dutch middleweight created by beating Bo Nickal and Robert Whittaker. Brendan Allen deserves credit for doing so, but there's no two ways about it, Reinier de Ridder QUIT!Kevin Holland vs. Mike Malott was NUTS! Marred by a low blow, Mike Malott notched his career best win and saw it undone by the low blow. We may not remember the low blow his next fight but for now, Mike Malott is suffering from winning but not really. Kevin Holland had every chance to get a no contest. Instead he was the warrior and suffered a warrior's defeat, by having his bag smashed in.Chito Vera dropped his third straight fight and he has nobody to blame but himself. His career has regressed to a point of inactivity where he cannot pull the trigger. Despite dropping Aiemann Zahabi, Chito Vera couldn't pull the trigger to find the shots needed to win the fight. Aiemann Zahabi wins another fight after being dropped badly. Chito Vera loses his fourth in five fights.#rdrquit #deridderallen #mmareaction
Boots Ennis scored a first round TKO last weekend against Uisma Lima. Now everyone swears he beats Terence Crawford. Stop it.🎞️Check out Fight Finders, my docuseries! I don’t know how everyone can say Boots Ennis beats Terence Crawford after we watched Crawford beat the brakes off of Canelo just a couple weeks ago. Jaron Ennis is a talent, a special fighter. But beating Uisma Lima in the first round means nothing going up against Terence Crawford. Now that Crawford is at 168, it is time to let that one lie. Put Boots against Vergil Ortiz, like everyone wants, or Sebastian Fundora, Xander Zayas, or Bakhram Murtazaliev. Super welterweight is wide open and Boots Ennis may be the best fighter there. But he should go get the belts to prove that. Vergil Ortiz only has an interim belt. Boots Ennis should look at fighting Fundora, Zayas, or whoever else to put some excitement behind a potential fight with Ortiz. Vergil Ortiz should do the same. Let’s get a belt, be great, and book the superfight. #jaronbootsennis #jaronennis #ennisortiz
