You claimed that nothing can be objective due to our differences in nervous systems. In the next question you talked about the best morality system, which you claimed as listening to your own inner voice or conscience. You then went and said that "if your inner voice tells you to hack up a bus of children, then you'd be better off being eaten by a lion." By saying this you are implying that there are some OBJECTICVE moral truths. If everything is truly subjective as you claim, then that includes morality. Your philosophy is not all bad, but it contradicts itself far too much. Truth WILL NOT contradict truth. If something contradicts another thing then at least one of them is not true. If everything is subjective and reality is in the eye of the beholder, then you cannot say that a person is wrong or evil because it makes them happy to end the lives of others. By saying that it is inherently wrong to kill others, you are admitting that there is some objective moral truth, therefore things can be seen objectively. If we really look at everything as subjective and relative, then nothing is true and anything is permissible and nothing is meaningful.

Christina Coleman Christina, you are completely right, I'm merely arguing that things can and must be objective if we are going to have a moral or ethical code. And I do believe there is objective truth. If we go around saying everything is relative and subjective than we are setting ourselves up for contradiction and paradox. To be a TRUE relativist, you must realize the fact that there really is no right or wrong and morality and ethics are meaningless. The only thing standing in the way of people doing things is power. whoever has the power controls what happens.

John Fischer if you want the benefits of residing in a peaceful community setting, you're agreeing to the social contract which would obviously discourage acts of harm toward others.
