Hey all, we're covering a new show! It's the Rian Johnson mystery / crime series Poker Face on Peacock. It's great! It's a stylishly cool, beautifully filmed, fresh-yet-nostalgic throwback to detective series of yore like Columbo and The Rockford Files, featuring the fabulous Natasha Lyonne as Charlie Cade, a woman on the run, solving murder mysteries with her uncanny ability to tell when you (yes you) are lying. Follow along with us!Reposted from Murder Magnets: A Poker Face Podcast. • We’d love if you’d subscribe to / follow the standalone Murder Magnets podcast on your favorite platform. You can find links by clicking Where to Listen at https://podcastica.com/podcast/murder-magnets-a-poker-face-podcast—Poker Face kicks off with a banger of an episode, with an introduction to our intrepid, truth-divining, Lady Galahad-of-a protagonist, Charlie Cale, and a fantastically weaselly guest-starring performance by none other than Adrien Brody. Jade, Penny, and Jason chat about our favorite parts, the implications of being able to tell when anyone is lying, and much much more. Hey all, here’s a peek at what’s usually my Patreon-exclusive monthly podcast, The Zedhead Show, where I ask patrons to come on and talk about something, usually pop-culture-related (but not always). This time we have Kara, Randy, and Gemma on for a talk about our favorite serial killer / crime shows and movies, and whether we think they glamorize the killers and/or exploit the victims. It was a fascinating talk, with a lot great examples like The Silence of the Lambs, The X-Files, You, and many many more. Kara was formerly a criminal prosecutor and took a profiling class with John E. Douglas, the inspiration behind Jonathan Groff’s character FBI Special Agent Holden Ford on Mindhunter, so we asked her about that too.We also talked about:• Wishing for more wishes from a genie• Bringing your own food to a wedding• Putting salt in chocolate milk• Jeans• Smoked cocktails• Pineapple pizza• The death penalty• Bad words in Italian• Theaters where the seats move along with the action onscreen• Breaking Bad• ChatGPT, the incredible AI chatbot• What kind of party we’d throw if money were no objectIf you like this podcast, there’s more where that came from! In addition to some listener feedback about The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 finale, here’s an interview with the brilliant Bruce Miller, showrunner of The Handmaid’s Tale. Surprise! We talked about: • How culpable (or not) Serena was in the creation of Gilead• What it was like for Yvonne Strahovski to play different sides of Serena this season• Yvonne’s relationship with Elisabeth Moss• Whether the show might give us more backstory on Mark Tuello in the future, and the nature of the relationship between Mark and Serena• Bradley Whitford directing an episode this season• How the directors, writers, actors, sound designers, and others work together to create the show• What Bruce wants music to accomplish in the show• Whether Wendy was right that Nick punching Lawrence in the face was staged• The nature of Nick and Rose’s relationship• How situations in the real world can inspire the story of the show• His thoughts on Mrs. Wheeler• What kind of show he’d like to produce next• And more! Thanks so much to all of you who watched and listened along with us this season. Okay, we admit it, our “catch-up” ended up being longer than if you’d just gone back and watched the episodes themselves :) That’s how much we love this show! This ep prompted us even more to talk about how the things Jen and Judy go through remind us of lessons we’ve learned (and are learning) in our own lives. Penny’s out this week traveling, but she’ll be back for the season 3 premiere!Speaking of which, we’ll be covering two episodes at a time for season 3. Agreeded with everyone comments. However, Kristen's comments on the female representation really resonated with me and was dead on. Thanks for presenting that point. The writing certainly fell short this season. The actors did absolutely the best they could.
