Dr Andrew Kirkland is a Lecturer in Sport at the University of Stirling. He is a leading expert in endurance performance with a track record of working with high-performance athletes and coaches.
In Feb 2017 Andy had a significant stroke. It was a cryptogenic one, with no particular reason behind it. You can say he was just unlucky. As you can imagine, it was a very traumatic and painful experience. He had to learn how to walk, and for a long time, Andy has lost the ability to do what he loves the most, ride his bike. But he didn't give up. He has managed to channel all his energy on the recovery process. And he did it! Now he describes the stroke as the best thing could ever happen to him: he is wiser, more robust, tougher, more compassionate and mentally fitter human than ever! This is his incredible story.

Welcome to Fitness Soul Podcast. This is Power & Lipstick series where I (Joanna Weintritt) invite inspiring women to share their story. In today's podcast, my guest is Katie Paterson. Katie is a marketing consultant endurance nutter and a Fitmama. I know Katie for over a year as she joined our Fitness Soul gang and Fitmamas classes after having a baby. In this podcast, Katie and I are going back in time a little bit and we are talking about Katie's life before the baby and her amazing journey. Four years ago, Katie and now-husband Euan, embarked on an adventure to cycle around the world. 22,000km, 31 countries, 4 continents, and 11 months later, they arrived back in the UK having powered themselves around the globe with their own two legs. Now living in Leith, with baby Archie, Katie and Euan continue to challenge themselves physically albeit a little closer to home. As well as looking after Archie, Katie has trained as a fitness instructor and hopes to start delivering FitMamas classes to mums locally soon. She also offers flexible freelance marketing and communications support to small business in sport and fitness. In this podcast, we also talk about endurance racing, pushing the limits, about consistency, mindset, being kind for yourself and about getting stronger. We finish off talking about how things changed for her when she became a mum. I hope you enjoy this podcast and it will make you realise that you can achieve and experience things you always dreamed about. You can contact Katie at:Email: hello@kpfreelance.comResources Katie mentioned:Website: https://www.thefreewheelers.co.uk/Blog about FAQs: https://www.thefreewheelers.co.uk/single-post/2016/09/11/How-will-you-get-your-bikes-on-a-plane-And-other-frequently-asked-questions%E2%80%A6Pamir Highway: http://www.worldbiking.info/wordpress/2018/02/guide-cycling-pamir-highway/Loving it Vegan Cookies: https://lovingitvegan.com/vegan-chocolate-cookies/Bicycle touring with kids: http://travellingtwo.com/Get in touch with us:Instagram: @fitnesssoul.co.uk @ joannafitnesssoul Facebook: Like - facebook.com/FitnessSoul/Follow Joanna - https://www.facebook.com/j.e.weintritt
Recently I have been fasting for 3 days, but I wouldn't be able to do it well if not my friend Barbara, who has guided me through it.I wanted to record a podcast with Barbara for a really long time! Barbara is a doctor who works for NHS with patients clinically and in research, she specialises in Rheumatology. Barbara has been fasting for many years. She has an interest in nutrition and lifestyle modifications in health and disease. She is currently finishing her degree as Fasting Therapist.Recording a podcast was totally out of Barbara's comfort zone but after a few months (or years 🤔) of asking she decided to do it (she probably thought I will not give her a break 😂). We talked about 3 stages of fasting, benefits, contraindications, our personal experience and our reasons behind it. I hope you will enjoy it.x Joanna WeintrittYou can contact Barbara here: FastingConceptEdinburgh@gmail.comResources recommend by Barbara:Resource no1: The New Life Fasting Guide: Seven Days to a Healthier, Happier You by Hellmut Luetzner https://amzn.to/3d5oqC7Resource 2 - summary article but has key resources in the reference list and is freehttps://www.karger.com/Article/FullText/357828Recources by Joanna:Detoks Alkaliczny by Beata Sokolowska https://amzn.to/3bUFqLnGet in touch with us:Instagram: @fitnesssoul.co.uk http://instagram.com/ironzumbagirl/ https://www.instagram.com/fitnesssoul.co.uk/Facebook: Like - facebook.com/FitnessSoul/Follow - https://www.facebook.com/j.e.weintritt
