This week, host Jack Lyons caught up with both Joey O’Brien, High Performance Manager with WIT Vikings Sport and John Windle, Manager at UPMC Sports Medicine to speak about the recent developments to the performance programme in WIT Vikings Sport.
To begin the new season of the WIT Vikings Podcast, host Jack Lyons caught up with Sport Changes Life – Victory Sport Scholarship students Conor Fenton and Rachel Thompson. Conor and Rachel spoke about their journey through the collegiate basketball system in the United States as well as their journey to Waterford to compete for WIT Vikings Basketball Club and the local national and super league teams.
As part of the Sport & Societies Awards week, we are taking a look back at some of the fantastic things which have been achieved by WIT Vikings Sport & Societies during its history. Of course, this history would not have been possible without the incredible staff members who have worked tirelessly to facilitate sports and societies activity throughout this time. Here, we have a 3-part podcast where each part will welcome sports and societies staff from the past and present. In Part 3, we welcome current WIT Vikings current Sports and Societies staff members Katie Redmond and Sean Geoghegan.

This week, host Jack Lyons is joined by two of his collegues from the WIT Vikings Sports & Societies office Sean Geoghegan and Katie Redmond to speak about the FISU Healthy Campus Award. Thanks to work put in by WIT Vikings Sport, WIT Novus and Waterford Institute of Technology, we have become the first institute in Ireland to be awarded the FISU Healthy Campus Award. The FISU Healthy Campus Programme is an exciting global project that incorporates health & well-being into all facets of campus life, which in turn enhances the lifestyles of students.
This week, host Jack Lyons is joined by two of WIT's top sport scholarship students - Aoife Doyle and Calum Lyons. Both Aoife and Calum were involved in All Ireland finals in December last year. Calum was involved with the Waterford Senior Hurlers as they had some fantastic displays to reach finals day, only to lose out to an awesome Limerick outfit. While Aoife Doyle put in a player of the match display as Kilkenny dethroned Galway in the All-Ireland Camogie final.
This week, host Jack Lyons is joined by Neil Gough, coach with the WIT Vikings Boxing Club and boxer Mikey Keating to gain an insight into one of the most popular clubs on campus. Great to hear the plans for the future as well as hear of some high profile names who have come through the club, including Billy Walsh. As sport in colleges across the country is on the back burner due to current restrictions, it gives us a chance to shine a spotlight on our clubs and ensure students know once restrictions ease, we will be back up and running
This week, host Jack Lyons is joined by three men heavily involved in GAA in WIT and across the country to preview the All Ireland Hurling Final between Waterford and Limerick. Fintan O'Connor, Conor Phelan and Alan Roche chat about the paths to the final, predictions for Sunday and the WIT involvement

This week, host Jack Lyons is joined by Manzey Joseph from the WIT Photography Society, Grainne Kavanagh from the WIT Grá Society and Katie Redmond from our own Sports and Societies Office as they speak about the world of Societies in WIT. As sport in colleges across the country is on the back burner due to current restrictions, it’s great to get some insight into societies, an integral part of student life in WIT.
This week, host Jack Lyons caught up with his fellow Sports Office colleagues Katie Redmond and Sean Geoghegan to celebrate the return of WIT Vikings Sport for the new academic year. The three speak about being back up and running, the importance of Sports and Societies to college life and also the Open Day which is upcoming on October 13th.
This week, Jack takes a look into the growing world of Esports. Jack is joined by Darragh Cunningham (Ireland Esports), Aidan Boylan (College Esports Ireland) and Bryan McNamara (RAID Studios). They discussed all things Esports in Ireland and and just how fast it is growing worldwide. Jack and the guests also discuss the Esport Scholarship programme launched in WIT, the first of its kind in Ireland. Its great to get such insight from 3 Esport professionals.
This week Jack and Lizzy caught up with some of the team from the WIT Arena. Joey O’ Brien, Shane Dineen and Anya Ksenia Farrel share their own sport and fitness journey’s with us. They discuss the new WIT Arena Online Gym whilst offering useful exercise tips to help during this current lockdown period. A great listen from three very interesting individuals.
This week Sean and Jack caught up with WIT’s Sport Psychology Lecturers and practitioners Ciara Losty and Gerry Fitzpatrick. They discussed all things Sports Psychology from their own experiences, to living in the current pandemic as well as detailing the Masters of Science in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology course which takes place in WIT. An excellent listen from two of the very best in their field.

This week Jack & Lizzy caught up with Joey O’ Brien S&C co-ordinator on the WIT Scholarship program and working with the Waterford Senior Hurlers. As well as two of our Scholarship students Danielle Morrissey, Kilkenny Camogie and Rob Childs, Limerick Football. They discussed all things GAA lockdown from memories of the college season, adjusting to training at home, their hopes for championship and some novel tips to keep you occupied during the current lockdown.
Lizzy and Sean caught up with Irish Athlete and Elite Sport Scholarship Student Phil Healy and her coach and WIT Athletics Development Office Shane McCormack to see how life and training was going during these very different days. They talked about the past season, their journey to the rescheduling of the Olympics and their plans for the future. An inspiring piece from two inspirational figures in Irish Sport.
Tom and Lizzy caught up with Tommy Shefflin, WIT camogie manager, and Shuana Quirke, WIT camogie captain ahead of the Ashbourne cup camogie finals weekend. WIT Vikings GAA club, in conjunction with CCAO Third Level Camogie, are hosting this years UPMC Ashbourne cup in WIT Arena which takes place from the 14th-16th of February. 
This week Tom Grinsell and Lizzy Kent chat with Fintan O'Connor (Secondary School Teacher & Kerry and WIT Senior Hurling Manager) and Alan Roche (WIT hurling Selector and Coach & WIT Novus Bar Manager) ahead of the opening round of the Fitzgibbon Cup. There was some great stories shared along the way and the lads also give us their view on how the competition might fare out!!
