This week, season 4 of "Rock the Block" came to a close and a new winning team was crowned. After six grueling weeks of construction and creativity, the fireworks flew and one duo of HGTV stars learned they had designed the best home on the block. Their win solidifies that good, authentic design absolutely adds value to a home, but what else made their property stand out from the rest? On this exclusive episode of "House Party" podcast, we sit down with the winners of season four to deep dive their design strategy, get real about their experience designing a 5,000-square-foot Colorado home in six weeks, and chat about their favorite house of the bunch (outside of theirs, of course). Click the player above to hear our guests get honest about the highs—and lows—of their "Rock the Block" journey. On the penultimate episode of "Rock the Block" Season 4, the teams set their sights and renovation budgets on their home exteriors. This week, they're tasked with overhauling the house siding, landscaping, backyard, and patio. But, host Ty Pennington throws the HGTV stars a curveball—and an extra $1,000—to complete a design challenge. In addition to all the other work they're putting into their exterior designs, they must also create a recreational activity area. Imagine having 1,500 square feet of walkout basement space to design to your heart's content. Would it be dedicated to family time, entertaining guests, or cultivating your physical and mental health? That was the big decision the four teams of HGTV designers had to make on this week's episode of "Rock the Block." Host Ty Pennington announces that the design duos will be tricking out the entire 1,500-square-foot lower level of their houses, and it's up to them to decide how to add as much style and appraised value to the space as possible. Creativity was at an all-time high and the designers turned out four impressive zones, but one team impressed judges Alison Victoria and Veronica Valencia the most and were crowned this week's winners. When designing (or dreaming about) the ideal main suite of a home, the goal is to cultivate a space that is comfortable and functional. On this week's episode of "Rock the Block," all four teams passed this test with flying colors. Every main suite included a relaxing bedroom, a spa-like bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a private washer and dryer. But one team of HGTV stars used their experience designing luxurious homes to rise above and be crowned the winners of the main suite challenge. On an all new episode of "House Party" podcast, we chat about the most recent episode of "Rock the Block" including all of the fancy-schmancy design details, that "design surprise," and (of course) host Ty Pennington—in chaps. How does living room design add value to a home? That's the question the HGTV star designers are tasked with solving on this week's episode of "Rock the Block." For this competition, host Ty Pennington challenges the teams to renovate the entry area, living room, and guest powder room in their respective houses. Guest judges Mina Starsiak Hawk of "Good Bones" and Jenn Todryck of "No Demo Reno" stop by to evaluate the designers' work and determine who added the most appraised value to their home. The winning team harnesses the beauty of the Colorado landscape while also curating a feeling of luxury and comfort in their living room. So which duo comes out on top? Listen now to find out, and hear us discuss what we loved and loathed about the designs this week. “House Party” is the official Realtor.com® podcast about the overlapping worlds of home and pop culture, hosted by Rachel Stults and Natalie Way. Click the player above to hear our take on this week’s hot topics. We're all in on season four of "Rock the Block," the home renovation competition that pits teams of HGTV stars against one another to build a house from scratch and add as much value to the property as possible. This time around, the showdown takes place in the idyllic mountain town of Berthoud, CO, and the designers are tasked with overhauling 5,000-square-foot mansions using a budget of $250,000. It's "Rock the Block": luxury edition, and we couldn't be more excited to recap the season and watch the drama unfold. This week is technically kitchens week, but the designers are also tasked with renovating the dining room, pantry, and mudroom. On top of that, host Ty Pennington sends the HGTV stars on a hot air balloon design challenge that takes the competition to new heights. Jenny and Dave Marrs, stars of "Fixer to Fabulous," are brought in to judge the final designs and choose a winning team based on their decision to build not one but two kitchens. Which design duo comes out on top? We discuss it all on this week's episode of "House Party." On this brand new episode we cover a number of trending topics including the passing of Lisa Marie Presley and the legacy of Graceland, the iconic home that belonged to her father, Elvis Presley. Lisa Marie inherited the Memphis, TN, property at the time of her father's death, but now the keys belong to someone else. We also discuss tips for navigating secondhand sales websites and how one person claims they saved $10,000 on home furnishings by shopping on Facebook Marketplace. Then, we announce this week's celebrity real estate winners and loser. The winners are real estate moguls who recently sold a ritzy Montecito, CA, ranch to the CEO of Bumble, and the loser is a prolific actor and Broadway performer who many millennials will remember as Seth Cohen's dad on "The OC." We kick off the first podcast episode of 2023 with a discussion of hot topics as of late: the California storms (parade of tornadoes!), the Idaho college student murders (what will happen to the house?), Prince Harry's memoir "Spare" and the Sussex's discontent with their current home (rumor has it they’re not happy in their Montecito, CA, mansion and want to move). (Montecito estate where they filmed their Neflix show.) Then, we crown the first celebrity real estate winner and loser of the year. The winner starred in the first season of "The White Lotus" and the loser played a beloved paper salesman on "The Office." On this episode of "House Party" podcast, we get into why Mark Wahlberg dropped the price of his Beverly Hills estate and why Ryan Seacrest took way less than the original asking price of his hillside Beverly Hills mansion. Then, we continue (and conclude) our recap of season one of "Selling the OC." The drama comes to a head and the Oppenheim Group agents duel it out during a yacht party. Who comes out on top? We kick off this week's episode of "House Party" with a lively discussion about two buzzy topics in celebrity real estate news. The first: writer, director, and millennial antihero Lena Dunham's beautifully designed luxury tiny home that she built in her parents' backyard. The über successful Dunham could presumably live just about anywhere, but she opted to design and move into a one-and-a-half-bedroom "forever home" that's 10 feet from her parents' house. So we have to wonder if Dunham's latest real estate move is indicative of a larger trend for millennials and Gen Zers. Is designing and living in an accessory dwelling unit the next hot housing trend for young would-be homebuyers who don’t mind sharing a yard with their family? Then, we chat about Trevor Noah's gorgeously designed New York City penthouse that hit the market for $13 million. With 3,600 square feet of space, 15-foot ceilings, and a private terrace with a plunge pool, could this be the best deal in the Big Apple? And we finish out the episode with a recap of "Selling the OC" episode 7. The penultimate episode of the season is full of petty drama and pretty homes, including a modern Mediterranean in Newport Beach, CA, and a renovated midcentury home in San Clemente, CA. Over the years we've seen plenty of celebrities buy and sell second homes in the same city as their primary residence. Lebron James has simultaneously owned homes in the tony Los Angeles enclaves of Brentwood and Beverly Hills. Leonardo DiCaprio has a long history of doing real estate deals all over LA, from Malibu to Los Feliz. Now, Kylie Jenner is the latest A-lister to put her "spare" LA home up for sale. Jenner and her partner Travis Scott reportedly listed their Beverly Hills home for $22M. The curious part? They bought the home in 2018 for $13.4 million, far less than the current listing price. Does the 9,680-square-foot estate warrant such a high price tag? Will they get their price? We discuss it all on a new episode of "House Party" podcast. This week we also discuss Reese Witherspoon's latest real estate win: flipping (one of) her Nashville homes for $7.4 million. And we finish out the episode with a recap of "Selling the OC" episode six, titled "Co-listing Chaos." As the agents at The Oppenheim Group Newport Beach are dealing with the fallout of the "Kayla-Tyler drama," we are treated to an inside look at two gorgeous properties. The first is "Gio's house," a 3,817-square-foot home on Newport Bay, and the second is "Tyler's listing" in Dana Point, a mansion that was on the market for $10M. Hello, friends! We begin this all new episode of House Party with a discussion about the buzziest real estate news stories as of late. Between marital strife and a not-so-stellar start to the football season, Tom Brady has a lot on his plate. But the latest news about the superstar quarterback is that his Tampa, FL, home is on the market for $12.5M. We have the scoop on the house, plus details about Brady's most recent real estate ordeal. Then, we chat about heartthrob actor Timothee Chalamet's $11M purchase in Beverly Hills, CA. It's a gorgeous spread with quite a history of celebrity owners. And we finish out the episode with a recap of "Selling the OC" episode five. Editor's note: At the time of recording Tom Brady's divorce was still rumored. Recent reports indicate that Giselle Bundchen has filed for divorce. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hi friends! This week we continue our recap of "Selling the OC" with episode four, titled "Not So Happy Hour." While the drama between the agents at the Oppenheim Group is heating up, one agent sells a $3.2 million house and makes her biggest commission to date. Several properties are featured on this episode including a $4.5 million hillside home in Laguna Beach and a massive Laguna Beach mansion. Then, we discuss two recent real estate stories of note: Melissa McCarthy's purchase of a NYC penthouse (as well as her real estate portfolio) and Rihanna's second Beverly Hills buy. Welcome back to the show! This week, we continue our recap of "Selling the OC" with episode three titled "Testing the Waters". The agents at the Oppenheim Group hustle to get listings and find buyers for a variety of properties including a hillside Laguna Beach, CA, home, a 6,000-square-foot mansion in Irvine, CA, and a $21-million Dana Point, CA, estate. But the drama really heats up when the agents hit the beach, pop some champagne, and reveal their true feelings for each other. Then, Natalie and Rachel Stults chat with Andrew Tyree, host of the show "Beyond the Block" on Tastemade, and Joey Lucas, "Beyond the Block" showrunner. The show is currently in its third season, and Andrew and Joey stop by "House Party" to give us the scoop on what it's like producing a TV show that's "part travel, part real estate." Each episode, Andrew guides homebuyers through potential neighborhoods in cities all around the country so they can find not only their dream house but also their dream locale. We were pretty shocked to hear that Chip and Joanna Gaines had never won an Emmy for their juggernaut renovation show "Fixer Upper." Since the duo were never producers on that show, though, they were never eligible. But now, as owners of Magnolia Network and executive producers of "Fixer Upper: Welcome Home," Chip and Jo have the opportunity to win gold. Last week, we learned that "Fixer Upper: Welcome Home" was nominated for Outstanding Structured Reality Program. The Emmys are scheduled for September 12, and we'll be waiting with bated breath to see if they come out on top.In other reality TV news, Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa announced they're having a baby. Netflix’s series “How To Build a Sex Room” doesn’t require viewers to guess about its subject matter. It’s all there in the title!Throughout the years, we’ve seen more homeowners construct sex rooms and BDSM basements inside their homes, but this is the first time this trend has been packaged in the form of a renovation reality show.So we jumped at the chance to sit down with luxury interior designer and series host Melanie Rose, aka the “Mary Poppins” of sex rooms, to learn more about her racy new show and the work she does. It turns out, there’s a lot more to her job than simply working whips and chains into home decor. Then, we continue our recap of season two of "Battle on the Beach". I am so over Sarah Baumler and her beige on white on beige...I watched the whole season and she just seethes with every loss, it's kind of delicious because you can tell she REALLY isn't used to losing lol. And the right team definitely wins the whole thing! I live right down the road from these houses and the thought of multi-million dollar houses in Berthoud was unthinkable just a few years ago. The world's crazy right now.
