An interview with William B. Howard, one of the country’s top financial advisors for physicians. Financial essentials 101 for medical students, residents and physicians.  William is President of William Howard & Co. with 40 years of experience advising clients on financial matters. As expert, author, and leader, William brings financial skills and seasoned knowledge to his clients and his community. By 1994, Worth Magazine had already listed him as one of the top 60 financial planners in the USA. He has been included over ten times as part of Medical Economics Magazine’s list of “Top 150 Advisors for Doctors.” He has been named annually as a Memphis Magazine 5 Star Wealth Manager since 2008, and the Dental Practice Report has listed William as one of “Best Financial Advisers for Dentists” for the past six years.  Mr. Howard has published articles in Medical Economics, American Medical News, Physician’s Management, and the Journal of Financial Planning. He is also a financial columnist for Medical Society Quarterly, a publication of the Memphis Medical Society.  He has been frequently quoted in the press publications such as The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Business Week, Medical Economics, and Investor’s Business Daily. Local news networks have interviewed William on financial related topics, and he was a regular guest panelist for a local cable television investment series. His firm’s success story has been featured in local and national media.  William received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi, continuing on to receive the Charted Financial Consultant and Certified Financial Planner® professional designations. He is a founding board member, past president and chairperson of the Financial Planning Association of Greater Memphis. He is a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Financial Planning and a past member of the adjunct faculty of the College for Financial Planning. He is a member of the Memphis Planned Giving Council and the Financial Planning Association. William was selected Memphis Executive of the Year in 2009 by the International Association of Administrative Professionals. He enjoys spending time with his children, exercising, listening to music, and playing guitar.
