This time around we’re looking back at our conversation with Todd Yoder, Senior Managing Director of Global Treasury, Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR). We had a fantastic conversation with him about his work ethic, how he got started in treasury and the principles he’s used to forge his own treasury career. It’s safe to say that he’s learned some valuable lessons that still translate in today’s treasury landscape, and he shares a few key ones in this episode. Todd Yoder joined Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) in 2011 and serves on finance and hedging committees for Fluor mega-projects and subsidiaries located in Mexico, Canada, and China. Todd serves as Innovation Catalyst for Fluor’s world headquarters, is an alum of Fluor’s Innovation Unwrapped program and has led numerous treasury and finance-related technology projects. Todd began his career in corporate accounting and treasury followed by progressive roles in banking commercial credit, financial planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and more than 15 years in multi-national corporate treasury. Fluor Corporation is an American multinational engineering and construction firm headquartered in Irving, Texas. Working one job within treasury can be tough enough. But making an effort to take on extra responsibilities can help you build a fulfilling career. One person who can attest to that is Timothy Hesler, Assistant Treasurer, Global Banking, Cash Management and Treasury Operations at New York University, who joins episode 213 of The Treasury Career Corner. Prior to McKinsey, Timothy has substantial experience of over 12 years, leading finance transformation and corporate treasury advisory engagements across numerous industries for multinational clients as Director of Treasury and Risk for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Prior to his time in professional services, he also worked in the corporate treasury department for Novartis, leading a variety of functions in treasury and corporate finance and as Manager of Banking, Cash Management/Revenue Accounting for Pizza Hut under the PepsiCo umbrella. A frequent speaker at conferences and podcasts, and an author of several articles, Timothy is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Union College and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University. He was recently Chair of the AFP's Body of Knowledge Committee, on the Advisory Board for TMI USA magazine and a long-time member of the Program Committee for the Treasury Institute for Higher Education. Sometimes career progression is a linear rise through the ranks, but other times, it's sporadic growth that shoots treasury professionals to their dream roles. Someone who’s experienced this first hand is Chris McConnachie, the CFO at National Grid. Chris joined National Grid in 2008, occupying several treasury roles in London before moving to the US in 2012 to guide the US function through their Global Treasury Systems Implementation. From 2013 to 2015, Chris was treasurer of the company’s US business and, more recently, served as NY Controller and Head of US Business Services before starting in his current role as CFO in 2021. National Grid is one of the world’s largest utilities, focused on delivering energy safely, efficiently, reliably, and responsibly. As an international electricity and gas company, they are one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world and play a vital role in delivering gas and electricity to many millions of people across Great Britain and North-Western US. If the past couple of years have proven anything, it’s that change is inevitable, especially in a field as dynamic as treasury.
