Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. This is another of our episodes that we live-streamed but also edited down for your pod-listening pleasure - so just a heads up re some of the steam-related goofiness that you might hear in this ep.Goofiness was essential for this one though, as the dads discussed the virtues or otherwise of remote learning, something every family with school-age kiddos has had to deal with to some degree or another the past few months. It's certainly been something that's heavily impacted Anna and Ella, though their experiences differ greatly. As dads of kids with T1D, decisions re what to do and when have largely been dictated by our concerns over possible diabetes-related complications should Anna or Ella contract COVID-19. Increasingly, though, those determinations are being more and more influenced by what might be best for our children's mental health... Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. A real treat for our listeners this episode! DaD had the privilege of visiting with current Major League Soccer (MLS) champs Seattle Sounders and US Men's National Team starter Jordan Morris, perhaps the most high-profile T1D athlete in America. Jordan talks openly about his earliest T1D memories, his fears regarding how his diagnosis might impact his dreams of playing professional soccer, and his reality today thriving as he does on the domestic and international soccer stage! We can't thank Jordan enough for being so generous with his time and so candid and honest when sharing his inspiring story. Please do check out all of the incredible work Jordan and his Foundation are doing in the T1D community at www.jordanmorrisfoundation.com Also, please remember to check out our wonderful Dads and Diabetes show sponsors...Glucose Revival @ https://glucoserevival.com/ Dia-Be-Tees @ www.Dia-Be-Tee.comAnd a special sponsor for this episode...www.bootbags.us (thanks, Jordan Schweitzer!)
Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. This episode is a little rough around the edges, as the Dads wholly embraced live streaming and listener interaction. It was fun...but maybe it's something we do just every now and then?! Never the less, the gamut got run once more, as Alan and Mark considered what our 'new normal' (does anyone like that phrase?!) looks like?School, sports, shopping, social interactions, all come under the microscope as well as many other topics courtesy of our wonderful listeners and our hosts' seemingly endless ability to be derailed by bright, shiny topics of any shape, size, or description! Please do check out our wonderful Dads and Diabetes show sponsors...Glucose Revival @ https://glucoserevival.com/ Dia-Be-Tees @ www.Dia-Be-Tee.com
Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. Alan and Mark, two men with faces for radio, unwisely decide to livestream an episode for the first time! If you're listening to this via podcast, smart move. You don't have to deal with the visuals. But you can at least enjoy the different energy that being able to see one another generated from the show hosts. The gents begin to ruminate on the pandemic 'new normal', and how they're trying to navigate all that comes with it when you have a T1D to consider. Running to the shops, going to church, playing sports, all whilst social distancing and wearing masks - or not! Some folks don't seem to quite understand the necessity for these things, so T1D families have that to navigate, too... Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. Well, actually, THREE dads this episode. While Alan sets the financial world to rights, Mark hosts our first ever Dad Panel. We’re delighted to welcome to the show fellow T1D dads Rob Namnoum and Steven Truitt. The three dads share their experiences, highlighting similarities in their kids T1D stories to date, as well as those divergences that make the Diabetic lifestyle so 'interesting' and keeps us parents on our toes!
Alan and Mark are REUNITED...and it feels so good! After the Dads recorded their separate group podcasts with other T1D pod hosts, finally the pair are back together again. The guys run the gamut as they play catch-up, covering such diverse topics as the financial markets, the cost of insulin, tele-Endo visits, gardening, cooking, hiking, whittling, and what the unexpected long-term benefits might be to our families of this pandemic-enforced lock-down...Please do check out our wonderful Dads and Diabetes show sponsors...Glucose Revival @ https://glucoserevival.com/ Dia-Be-Tees @ www.Dia-Be-Tee.com
Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. With a twist! The second of our out-of-the-norm eps, with Alan up to bat this time! #TeamAlanOur good friend Stacey Simms (of the 'Diabetes Connections' podcast), once again gathered together some fellow T1D podcasters for a chat. Alan jumped in to represent our lil' ole show (#TeamAlan), along with Amber of 'Diabetes Daily Grind', and Matt of 'Pardon My Pancreas'. The group cover Governors orders (or lack thereof), what we learned from the Spanish Flu, and much more besides!
With a twist! So, with the world being crazy right now, our next two eps are going to be very different from our usual shows. No Alan and Mark combo! Our good friend Stacey Simms (of the 'Diabetes Connections' podcast), gathered together some fellow T1D podcasters for a chat, an opportunity just to connect really. Mark was in on that first gathering (#TeamMark) along with Emily of 'Pancreas Pals', Rob & Ali of 'Pardon My Pancreas', and Rob of 'Diabetics Doing Things', and this episode is that. Our next episode will feature the second of those gatherings, which Alan attended (#TeamAlan).* *Alan and Mark are not at war, but if they were to be it would likely be very civil indeed! :-D Please do check out our wonderful Dads and Diabetes show sponsors...Glucose Revival @ https://glucoserevival.com/ Dia-Be-Tees @ www.Dia-Be-Tee.com
Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. In one of their hardest to record episodes ever, Alan and Mark come clean on the things about Type 1 Diabetes that thoroughly p*ss them off! Typically upbeat, in this episode, the gloves come off as the dads share their true feelings regarding some aspects of T1D that really annoying, frustrate, even anger the heck out of them! What makes their 'Top 3 Things I Hate About You' list? Do their lists line up with your own? Feel free to email the guys at DadsandDiabetes@gmail.com with your 'Top 3', and we'll compile a crappy-things-about-T1D chart for all to see and empathize with!
A few months back, we stumbled across a comic book published by a company called Revolve Comics centered around a character with Type 1 Diabetes. Then we found another issue! Researching Revolve Comics further, we got wind of a 3rd issue soon to be released. Needless to say, we were intrigued! Who were Revolve Comics? And why comics with T1D characters at their heart? So, we reached out to them and spoke with head writer Danny McLaughlin, a brilliant creative sort with an accent better even than Mark's! Danny shared the Revolve Comics story, how the two T1D-focused issues they've released so far have been received, and when we can expect to see the much-anticipated issue 3...For more information on Revolve Comics: https://revolvecomics.comAnd for more information on Uberheroes: https://uberheroes.co.ukPlease do check out our wonderful Dads and Diabetes show sponsors...Glucose Revival @ https://glucoserevival.com/ Dia-Be-Tees @ www.Dia-Be-Tee.com
THIS IS A REPOST FROM AN EPISODE ORIGINALLY RELEASED JANUARY 10, 2019Not a DaD ep as such, but a special 'extra'. Alan and Mark were invited to join Jeremy Collins on his excellent 'Podcasts We Listen To' show, to discuss 'Dads and Diabetes'; how our pod came about, where we see the show going, dealing with diabetes daily, and Jeremy shares out why DaD resonated personally with him. It's a really good little interview worth checking out, we think. And if you like this episode, please do check out some of the other PWLT shows where Jeremy talks to podcast creators who run the gamut. Who knows, you might find some other fascinating podcasts you'd want to subscribe also! All the info re where you can find additional PWLT eps is covered by Jeremy at the end of the show. Please do check out our wonderful Dads and Diabetes shows sponsors...Glucose Revival @ https://glucoserevival.com/ Dia-Be-Tees @ www.Dia-Be-Tee.com
Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. Alan and Mark have spent the past year talking about their daughters with T1D. This episode, they broaden their focus to include their family, in particular how this life-changing diagnosis affected siblings. What was the impact on the family dynamic? How much do the siblings understand about T1D? How can they help...do they want to help...do Anna and Ella want them to help?! Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. We’re kicking off the New Year the same way we ended the old one, with a SUPER-SIZED episode! This is one show we’re especially excited to release, as it’s been something we’ve been discussing and planning for quite the while. The world-renowned, Denver-based Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes welcomes families from across Colorado, America, and even further afield. Mark takes a trip down memory lane, and back to Colorado, to visit the folks at BDC who took such good care of his daughter Ella after she was diagnosed T1D in 2017. We got to visit with and so you'll get to hear from some amazing people, including the daughter of Barbara Davis herself. As always, please do check out our wonderful show sponsors...Glucose Revival @ https://glucoserevival.comDia-Be-Tees @ www.Dia-Be-Tee.com

Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. As we round out Diabetes Awareness Month, the dads round up some of their favorite T1D related news from the past couple of weeks. Another state wises up over insulin costs, a T1D champion gets recognized for his 35 years of dedication to the cause and to the kiddos, and Alan and Mark explore the odd and inexplicable connection between their daughters' blood sugar numbers...and then the girls have their say!
Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. Dropping on World Diabetes Day, this episode represents our 'Dads and Diabetes' podcast one year anniversary! So, Alan and Mark take the opportunity to reminisce about episodes gone by and bring listeners up to speed on all that's T1D new in their lives. The guys also announce the lucky winner of the signed copy of Stacey Simms book, 'The World's Worst Diabetes Mom', so be sure to stay tuned to the end!
Two dads of T1D daughters (and on this occasion, a Mom of a T1D son), on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. Because we know how much she likes her Avengers/Incredible Hulk analogy...World's Worst Diabetes Parents ASSEMBLE!!! Alan and Mark are delighted and excited to be joined this episode by 'Diabetes Connections' own Stacey Simms, now the author of a fabulous new book titled, 'The World's Worst Diabetes Mom'! Two dads of T1D daughters, on a podcast, trying to figure it all out. With children spending a huge chunk of their time in school, Alan and Mark get all academic in this episode. With their girls in quite different settings, it makes for an interesting assessment of their similarities and differences, especially when it comes to public v private school. How did their families engage school administration, teachers, and school nurses around T1D? What have they found to be the pitfalls when it comes to school lunches? What can be done to manage that tricky PE time? And how can technology not only help with visibility of blood sugar numbers but also with communication? And the most burning question of all...how and when do the moms decide its necessary to go full mama bear!
