Karen Mills from Alberta Advantage, C.H.A.N.G.E. Agents and Format: Guardian joins for the blockbuster finale of Gun Barrel: a miniseries on modern James Bond. Pierce Brosnan's fourth and final turn as James Bond 007 is widely regarded as the franchise's worst moment - and it is. We discuss the plot, which revolves around two North Korean guys becoming white through gene therapy. Along the way a space laser is introduced. Also discussed: Madonna, Halle Berry as Jinx, some of writing's worst moments, and how they put Bond in a POW camp so he couldn't stop 9/11. This is a preview of Primo Lefter, our weekly premium show. To get access to this and every other episode, join our Patreon for just $3/month.
German Villegas of the Modern Manhood podcast joins me to discuss Daniel Craig's second-last Bond film Spectre. Tyler from Alberta Advantage, format guardian, and several episodes of the Kino Lefter podcast, joins me this week to discuss this critical entry into the James Bond canon. Sam Mendes' first of two Bond films Skyfall marks the 50th year of the franchise. It's a reflective reinvention of James Bond set against the backdrop of civilian oversight of intelligence agencies, changing gender roles, terrorism, and youngsters using gadgets better than me. Is Skyfall a patriotic ode to institutions in a time of change? How does the film resonate with us today? Check out the other shows on the Harbinger NetworkDuran Duran Bond medley - Coachella 2011Join the Kino Lefter DiscordJoin the Kino Lefter Facebook group "Kino Lefter VIP Cinema Experience"Get access to Primo Lefter, our weekly bonus show on our Patreon for just $3 per month.
Marc Serpa Francoeur & Robinder Uppal join the program to discuss their new documentary feature on police violence and injustice within the ranks of the Calgary Police Service: No Visible Trauma. The film "examines a deeply troubled police department and reveals the devastating consequences of unchecked police brutality...  From the kidnapping and beating of a young immigrant from Ghana, to the fatal shooting of an unarmed man during a “wellness check”, the film exposes a criminal justice system that fails to hold police officers accountable for their actions." Hastily reworked during the WGA writers’ strike, Quantum revolves around an international secret society staging a coup in Bolivia while extorting them by controlling their water supply. We get into the film’s production, strengths, weaknesses, themes, and answer your questions. This may be the most thorough examination of this movie put to record. This is GUN BARREL: a miniseries on the contemporary James Bond films. For the month of November, I'll be connecting with old friends and new ones to discuss the James Bond films of Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, and how they reflect the political moments they were made in. From the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of history in GoldenEye through to the Marvelfication of all media in Spectre, this series will use the James Bond franchise to explore power, surveillance, violence, entertainment, and masculinity. There is also a stunner of a Mr. Bean impression early on that you can't miss. Casino Royale with Clinton Hallahan drops this Wednesday, and GoldenEye with Andrew Neville goes out to Patrons on Friday. Don't miss an episode by subscribing today: patreon.com/kinolefter
