Perspective is everything. For today's guest, the experiences and the things he saw as a young man shaped how he viewed the world, freedom, and his role to play in fighting for that very freedom. As men, we need a mission, a calling that will change the world. In this episode, Stephen Mansfield discusses with the young men of Apogee Strong how they can hone in on and utilize their own skills to do just that.  STEPHEN MANSFIELD  Stephen is a New York Times bestselling author, entrepreneur, and popular speaker who is a servant of several vital social causes. Stephen is also deeply concerned about the current state of manhood. To help reverse the downward trend of modern masculinity, he has written leading books on the subject, has appeared in major media, has spoken at conferences around the world, and has launched the GreatMan movement to train men in the art of noble manhood. Stephen grew up as the son of a US Army officer, and spent many formative years living in Berlin during the dark days of the Cold War. Returning to the US, he attended college, earning a bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy and later a master’s in history and public policy and a doctorate in history and literature. There are two things that we have explored extensively on this show. 1. Schooling is vastly different from education- the two are not synonymous and 2. The greatest success is often found in the most unconventional ways by simply paying attention and taking action. Both are the case for today's guest, Miranda Alcaraz who, in collaboration with her husband, has built out a successful, no-nonsense fitness community that provides their community with the resources they need to take control of their fitness every single day.  MIRANDA ALCARAZ Miranda grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. She went to school for interior design, and during this time she was also teaching spin and cardio kick-boxing classes. Graduated, and then began working at a high-end furniture and design store but found herself gravitating to the kind of community in health and fitness more. Crossfit was the first time she competed as an athlete, participating in the 2008 Crossfit games and competing until 2016. An idea was formed during a busy time in Miranda's and now husband's life. Post the simple workouts we are doing at home or on the road – so people can follow along. Charge a fee that will allow anyone to participate. Create a community where we can push and motivate each other. The first-ever workouts were posted in November 2016 (just a few days before Miranda found out she was pregnant with their first baby boy). Memberships went up for sale the week before the New Year, and within the first month, Street Parking had grown to 700 Members. MORE PLACES YOU CAN FIND MIRANDA. We talk a lot about the importance of dad's being in the home- but not just the physical proximity of it- fathers actually being a present and active role in raising strong young people for the world. We've seen a massive decline of such men. Men who are of the world and the trends of the culture rather than of the traditional masculine role of responsibility and virtue. Today's guest knows what it's like being a man of the world, and he completely rejected that path in favor of a more fulfilling path. Confidence isn't inherent. It's earned through hard work and pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone. Even if, like in the case of today's guest, it means getting punched in the face. Max Martini works in an industry known very well for its rate of rejection -- it's the name of the game in Hollywood, and confidence is a must. Not something that our guest always had. Iron sharpens iron. Today's guest knows that in order to become an individual of sound reason, your ideas will need to be challenged. You need to have a grounded philosophy and grounded ideals based in logic that can stand up to opposition. And in today's political climate, especially within colleges, any philosophy that goes against the narrative is quick to be silenced. Bo Hines explains to the young men of Apogee just how important it is to know who you are, what you believe, and have the courage to stand up for your beliefs.  Today's sponsor is Discover Praxis.
