Have you ever felt what it truly is to be alive? Do you ever stop, slow down for a minute and take it all in? Feel the wind graze your skin, chew your food slowly, taste every flavour, feel every drop of water as it trickles down your skin? Are you letting life pass by or are you experiencing true life? Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment. Mindfulness is not only about meditation, but it's also a way of life. Living mindfully lets you experience life in the now. It's about being in the present moment, not thinking of the past or worrying about the future. Cynthia DeFina is a certified School Psychologist, Mindfulness Speaker and Adjunct Professor of Positive Psychology at NJCU. She's an expert in mindfulness and an all-around amazing human being! This episode is about mindful living and teaching kids about mindfulness at an early age.  Find Cynthia here: IG: www.instagram.com/positivedefina  LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/cynthia-defina-ph-d-2b671885  https://www.sanomind.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sanomind/ https://www.instagram.com/thesolofounder/ https://twitter.com/thesolofoundr
Dr Susan C is a naturopathic doctor. Naturopathic doctors are educated and trained in accredited naturopathic medical colleges. They diagnose, prevent, and treat acute and chronic illness to restore and establish optimal health by supporting the person's inherent self-healing process. Rather than just suppressing symptoms, naturopathic doctors work to identify underlying causes of illness and develop personalized treatment plans to address them. Naturopathy is a system of alternative medicine based on the theory that diseases can be successfully treated or prevented without the use of drugs, by techniques such as control of diet, exercise, massage and other techniques and remedies. Dr Susan C explains much of what she does in this episode and it is full of great information! She also talks about how what we eat matters when it comes to mental health. Not many people think about food and mental health, but you will be surprised by how much they go together.  https://www.sanomind.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sanomind/ https://www.instagram.com/thesolofounder/ https://twitter.com/thesolofoundr
Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope or integrate the emotions involved with that experience. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The psychologist Francine Shapiro invented EMDR in the 1980s when she noticed that moving her eyes from side to side seemed to reduce the occurrence of her own distressing memories. Dr Natalie Feinblatt is an LA native with a BA in Psychology and a Master’s and Doctorate in Psychology who uses EDMR to treat trauma survivors. She's an amazing doctor and an even more amazing human being. In this episode we talk a little bit about her background, why she became a psychologist and dig a little deeper into trauma and EMDR.  https://www.sanomind.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sanomind/ https://www.instagram.com/thesolofounder/ https://twitter.com/thesolofoundr

Is therapy worth it?

Is therapy worth it?

2018-10-0953:53

Therapy is the attempted remediation of a health problem, usually following a diagnosis. In the medical field, it is usually synonymous with treatment. Among psychologists and other mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, counselors, and clinical social workers, the term may refer specifically to psychotherapy (sometimes dubbed 'talking therapy'). The English word therapy comes via Latin therapīa from Greek: θεραπεία and literally means "curing" or "healing". Source: Wikipedia With all the information available, therapy still seems to be mysterious. Not many people know what goes on behind the closed doors of a therapist's office. There's still a stigma behind mental health and for some it holds them back from seeking help.  In this episode Dr. Maha Nasrallah-Babenko does a great job uncovering the mystery behind therapy and how it can help anyone, not just the mentally ill. We get into a good conversation about mental health, types of therapy and what people should look for in a therapist. Dr. Maha has a PhD in Psychology, is an ACS certified sexologist, a sports psychologist and is a relationship and sexual wellness coach. Please feel free to follow and connect with Dr. Maha here: Instagram: @doctormaha Website: www.drmahanasrallah.com I, Nestor, am the founder/ceo and host of the sanoMind Podcast experience.
