176: Control

176: Control

2019-08-2011:58

Today we are using an Epictetus quote to talk about control. Control is an elusive and fickle thing because the more control we believe we have over our things and situation in life, often means the less control we have. All we can really control are our actions. Somethings we cannot even fully control our thoughts. Look no further to that annoying song many of us get stuck in our heads. The more we try to be in control, the more we open ourselves to disappointment.   So today I challenge you to not get caught up trying to be in control, just enjoy the day and focus on your actions and reactions.   As usual, if you want to say hi to the voice behind the One Take Stoic you can find me at:  Thrivingonfat.com    Instagram: www.instagram.com/thrivingonfat/   Twitter: twitter.com/ThrivingOnFat  Facebook: Facebook.com/thrivingonfat   Notice a theme? Only time can heal somethings. When we are faced with pain, that is the LAST anyone wants to hear. However, it's true. A forest will grow after a fire blazes through. People will rebuild in the ruins of an earthquake. Personal loss will heal with the help of time and the guidance of friends. 174: Human Connection

174: Human Connection

2019-07-1712:44

Today we are using a quote to talk about human inner connection. Yes every man may be an island, however, that is not the whole story. At the root of it, runs a connection we all have. We all go through similar human experiences, we all feel pain, love, loss, happiness, and sadness. It is through these emotions that we are all connected because we can sympathize, empathize and understand one another. It when we realized this that we can truly feel connected even though we are our own separate entities. Today we are using an Instagram post from last year, to help us shift our mindset and understand that we are all broken. From our broken places we can grow and become better versions of ourselves. If you are going through a break right now, it may seem like it is impossible to overcome, but you can to it!  Yes, you may be going through a difficult situation, maybe you feel like it cannot change, however I am here to tell you that it will and it can. The important thing is to allow a shift in mindset to see this difficulty as a challenge to help you get better. You do not have to deal with this change alone, you can reach out the those around you that you feel like you can trust and talk to them. Heck, this is part of the reason I offer coaching. So that I can help be the support you may need, but I can only help you if you tell me whats going on. The same goes for those who are close to you. If you want help, you need to ask for it. Don't be afraid, be are all broken. Today we are using a Marcus Aurelius quote to help us appreciating what we have. We use it to help us understand that the next minutes of our lives are not promised us. Death comes for everybody at different times, in different places and with different amounts of surprise. We are not promised tomorrow, we are not promised the next hour, so take the time to appreciate those you have around you. Most importantly, try and live a life you love. 166: I'm Possible

2019-06-2511:37

Today we are talking about the idea of something being impossible. To which I offer the question: if given the right mindset, can we overcome the obstacles in our way? After all, look at Roger Bannister, before him, we thought it was an impossibility to run a 4-minute mile. Or when we the cold war sparked the space race. Before then getting to the Moon seemed impossible, now scientists are looking at manned missions to Mars. With that said, is anything truly impossible? No, because YOU are possible. 160: I'm Back

2019-06-0314:02

Good morning friends; I am back in action! The move went well, and I am still getting settled in. The big stuff is done and I am able to once again talk to y'all daily, so thank you for understanding my going dark for a week. Today we talk a little bit about understanding when life throws you lemons sometimes you need to make lemonade. I also discuss how even set backs and difficulties can lead to getting our goals, because sometimes we need to take one step back to leap forward farther than we've gone. Regardless of that though, I am back and I will get back to my somewhat daily schedule, thank you again for understanding.
