After Paul has been forced out of the land of Thessalonica, he writes to those new saints who are being persecuted. In the 2nd chapter of 1st Thessalonians, we find some golden nuggets of parenting wisdom. Let's dig those up together and see what we find.
John 5:10 "If ye keep my commandments ye shall abide in my love." He doesn't say...If you keep my commandments then I will love you" What is the difference between abiding in His love and His unconditional love that is always there for us? John 14:18 "I will not leave you comfortless." How can we comfort our children, even when we aren't there? How does Christ teach what unconditional love truly is and how can that doctrine help us revaluate how we punish and discipline our children?
Welcome to the first episode of our Invested Parenting new season: Invested Parenting by Scripture. I raised my hand to spank...  and never expected this to happen...
Music is a universal language and can teach, help inspire, help calm, lift and soothe the soul. How are you using music in your home? Do your children get to pick music to listen to in the car? Can certain songs at bedtime help with routine? Let's talk about the many ways we can use music in our home as a powerful parenting tool.
What silly thing can you do or say that will lighten the mood or make your child laugh? Is it pretending that they've turned into a baby or an animal? Do you pretend they have disappeared and you can't see them? What do you do to get a good laugh out of them?
When we talk about what we are happily anticipating we can help our children learn to choose to think and dwell on positive things in the future. Let's talk about some ideas as we teach our children to create this habit of positive thinking.
Teach by example. Don't worry. No one expects perfection from you. But when you are happy your children notice. What's something you can plan in your day that lightens your mood? Let's talk of some different healthy ideas to take care of ourselves as caregivers and teach our children what HAPPY can look like!
Is your child wondering if you really love them? Show them they are treasured in a way they recognize. Holly discusses how to discover your child's love language and how to show love every day in a way they recognize.
This episode gives ideas of how we can control the environment that our child grows up in, in a way to create peace. There are chapters in our life when we have a say of what they have access to. Let's question what we bring into our home, what devices they have access to, what food is stored in our pantry. I love saying YES to my kids, so I want to be able to say yes to them as much as I can. Creating a house full of toys that they can play with, videos they can watch, and the food they can eat, are healthy ways to control the environment around them in a kid-friendly way. This creates more peace in our home and lessens how many times a day I have to say no. We can't control our kids, but let's talk about what we can control.
Let's talk about Sensory Regulating Behaviors, how to identify them and how to respond differently than we would to aggressive behaviors. Let's talk about how can we can tell the difference between those aggressive and Sensory seeking behaviors! It could make all the difference.
Does it seem like your child just can't find the right words? You want them to tell you how they feel or why they're throwing a tantrum, but all they give you in return is a growl and a punch? Maybe this child needs a water balloon to throw at a fence to calm down? Maybe hand them a piece of paper and marker, saying, "show me how mad you are on this paper". Holly shares examples of ways we can help our children express their feelings through or after an outlet or activity! Listen in for a tip that just might be what you've been waiting for.
Why would it be important to help your child be able to label their own feelings? How can we teach our children to use words to describe the way they are feeling, instead of whining or throwing a tantrum? Let's talk!
