On this edition of the Hockey Writers Podcast, Brandon fills in for Jim who was unable to host this week. The special guest is Zeke from The Hockey Writers to chat the San Jose Sharks first-round victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.   An exciting first round of the playoffs was highlighted (or low-lighted depending on your viewpoint) by the Vegas vs. San Jose series which ended in controversial fashion. A 5-minute major penalty by Cody Eakin, which many thought wasn't a penalty, helped spur the Sharks onto four goals and eventually a win.  --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hockey-writers/support
On this edition of the Hockey Writers Podcast, we're bringing Euegene Helfrick to talk the shocking Tampa Bay Lightning loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in four games and Conner McTague to talk the Penguins getting swept by the New York Islanders. How did two teams manage to perform so badly, especially the Lightning who won 62 games in the NHL's regular season and were the Presidents Trophy Winners? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hockey-writers/support
On the 18th episode of The Hockey Writers Podcast, Brandon and I take a good long look at the NHL franchises that either missed or will probably miss the 2018-19 NHL postseason. We focus on the teams that probably were expected to do more, but for some reason just couldn't pull it all together. It's just the two of us this week, talking back and forth and chatting hockey. It's one of the least formal episodes we've done but one of the most fun as well. We hope you enjoy. On This Week’s THW Podcast:Brandon and I look specifically at the LA Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim Ducks and New Jersey Devils. We also take a quick look at the Columbus Blue Jackets and ask out loud, what happens if this team doesn't make it? Considering all they did to try and get in this season, that could be devastating. We look at record-breaking individual efforts by players with the Oilers, what might happen to someone like Taylor Hall if the Devils can't pull it together and if teams like Anaheim and Los Angeles will ever be contenders considering the massive contracts they have on the books and how neither team appears to be getting any younger. Finally, what happens with free agents like Jeff Skinner or a host of players in Columbus?--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hockey-writers/support
On the 17th episode of The Hockey Writers Podcast, Brandon Share-Cohen stops in to chat the news of the week in the NHL and we take a few minutes with Jonathan Willis of The Athletic to talk the Edmonton Oilers, their hopes for the playoffs, an 8-4 victory over the LA Kings and future franchise decisions.  Jonathan Willis The AthleticJonathan Willis stops in to chat the Edmonton Oilers. Recently winning an 8-4 decision over the LA Kings, the team looked to be clicking on all cylinders. Why now? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hockey-writers/support

On the 14th episode of The Hockey Writers Podcast, Brandon Share-Cohen stops in to chat about what has so far been a bit of a slower news week in the NHL. That said, there are still some interesting topics to chat about. We visit with former NHL'er Sean Brown. An ex-Edmonton Oiler, Boston Bruin, New Jersey Devil, and Vancouver Canucks player, Brown spent many years in the NHL but also five years playing hockey in Europe. He saw his hockey career change over time and with it, watched how the game changed while he was a part of it professionally. He brings a wealth of experience to coaching and skill development for young athletes and these days that's what he enjoys doing on a regular basis. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hockey-writers/support
On the 13th episode of The Hockey Writers Podcast, Brandon Share-Cohen and I chat all things NHL Trade Deadline day analysis. We look closely at the biggest trades to fall on Monday, what it means for NHL franchises moving foward, who has the best playoff hopes and who won and lost all the moves that were made.   As we scroll through the biggest deals of the day, we talk Mark Stone going to Vegas, what the Columbus Blue Jackets did and how big a risk they took, who made out the best and why some teams didn't do much of anything considering the buzz heading into deadline day.  --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hockey-writers/support
On the 12th episode of The Hockey Writers Podcast, we give a final update on the NHL Trade Deadline as we visit with Josh Bell who covers the Ottawa Senators for the Hockey Writers, with Tony Wolak who covers the Detroit Red Wings and with Eugene Helfrick who covers the Tampa Bay Lightning.  What to Expect on the Podcast This Week…I touch on a quick update on the NHL trade deadline that is only four days away and while a player like Charline Coyle was moved yesterday to the Bruins and Hagelin to the Washington Capitals today, we're still waiting for the big names to go. Most of the delay seems to be teams waiting to see what the Ottawa Senators will do.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hockey-writers/support
