As of October 29, 2023, there have been 827 carjackings in Washington, DC. This is nearly three a day. In 2018, residents reported 140 carjackings, compared to 485 in 2022. DC crime data indicates there have been at least 113 arrests for carjackings so far this year, and 65% of those arrested are juveniles. D.C. has officially seen more than 200 homicides this year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. When youth are sentenced they go into the care of The Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) is the juvenile justice agency for the District of Columbia. Last week Councilman Trayon White held a press conference after seeing the living conditions of the youth at the facility at 1000 Mount Olivet Road in NE. One of the phases he used was “inhumane”. One would question how does these types of living conditions help rehabilitate the youth if they aren’t receiving the care they need? My guest and I dive into this conversation and look at how long this has been going on and its lastings effects. We talk about accountability all the time on this platform and with relationships there should be a “code of conduct” between friends and their friends partner! It seems the code that we once lived by is out the window and now it’s a “do you” society. It’s crazy how folks expect the fairy tale relationship but, you went against the grain with your friends by going behind their back and dating his/her ex. How’s that work? Coming up my co-host shares her experience with a friend doing this to her and how she found out! Welcome Back to RealTalk w/ The6thman Podcast! #therealtalkpodcast
The responsible gun owners of the District of Columbia only had one option to legally get their guns processed and transfer properly for years. The backlog was vicious to say the least and the entire city was trying to go through this process only being handled by one entity which was a struggle. It’s a new day and G&D LLC is a black owned family operated business. Owners Richard & Tia Hawkins sole purpose is to facilitate the transfer of firearms into the District of Columbia to responsible gun owners. G&D LLC is an authorized FFL for DC’s MPD mpdc.dc.gov/firearms This episode is very informative for those seeking to purchase firearms and having them registered to be transferred and becoming responsible gun owners in Washington, DC. There are many risk factors that make the transition to parenthood difficult, even in the best of circumstances. One such risk factor is the experience of parental childhood trauma, which has the potential to affect the parent/child relationship, both in terms of attachment style parental reflective functioning. This conversation aims to expand the discussion as it’s concerned with the effects of trauma has once that child transitions into adulthood. We see parenthood by looking at the role that the experience of trauma and adult attachment has in relation to parental reflective functioning. #therealtalkpodcast
We live in crazy times now and it seems like it’s not worth being a good person anymore. Men are suppose to protect women but, shouldn’t get killed in the process. At the end of the day being good is still a good thing but, let’s make sure we being safe in certain situations. Reality tv has more of an impact on relationships then folks like to lead on especially when it comes to relationships. I can appreciate folks opinion but, shit just don’t seem real no more. Every relationship is based on the individuals and it shouldn’t be one side based on financial responsibilities. Welp I’m try something new and I hope y’all enjoy the new edition to the show! Buckle up and get ready for some grown folk talk! #therealtalkpodcast
The 10 women say that while on the job at the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) they were treated with contempt and subjected to a male-dominated "culture of race and sex discrimination" and "intense pervasive retaliation" when they complained about it, according to the lawsuit. Nine of the women are current and former members of the force with at least 15 years of experience. The other woman served for five years and was once honored as police officer of the year, according to the suit. #therealtalkpodcast
It’s funny to me how we have the right to choose what’s best for us individually but, someone always has a negative opinion. Covid-19 has changed the landscape of how we conduct our day-to-day life but, we’ve made the necessary changes to get through these trying times. We have the right to take the vaccine or not and shouldn’t be looked at any different based on our decision. In today’s society tv and media will try to suppress the truth and push their agenda even if it means discrediting someone. In the “closer” Dave Chapelle in his own way took a look at how our misunderstanding can make a major impact on how we treat each other. I don’t speak on sports too often but, my guest gave me the idea and now I’m running with it! I appreciate Troy taking some time to share his perspective on how Covid has played a major roll for some athletes in professional sports. We also dive into a few conversation about some currents that have impacted our community! It’s an uncut non-scripted conversation which I help you enjoy! Get ready for some RealTalk! #therealtalkpodcast
I found it interesting the last couple of weeks to see posts on Facebook saying it sometimes takes years to figure out that some folks were never your friend! It was something that caught my attention and made me think to myself why it would even take years to figure out? The word Friend is used so loosely among other words but, there’s a clear difference between a friend and associate and people will show you with their actions what they are to you. We have to be paying attention in order to differentiate between the two as we navigate through life and certain situations with these individuals. I’m not saying that for some this isn’t true but, I really don’t think it should take years to figure out who’s with you and who’s not! I also wanted to acknowledge the disparity of media coverage and resources that people of color get compared to white people specifically women! It wasn’t something that I was paying attention too but, missing white girl syndrome is real and it’s definitely something to think about! #therealtalkpodcast
The District’s police chief stood Friday on one of the corners most emblematic of D.C.’s recent development boom, surrounded by a circle of more than 40 people with dozens of concerned questions. A day after a gunman opened fire outside a restaurant on 14th Street NW, leaving two people injured and forcing dozens to duck for cover, residents and business owners on the tony corridor wanted to know: What are District leaders doing about the rising tide of gun violence? Chief Robert J. Contee III spoke to the group bluntly: “It’s getting the attention that it’s getting now because it happened where it happened.” Where it happened is one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods, a potent symbol of the city’s renaissance over the past 20 years, with condos and restaurants replacing auto shops and quality-of-life crimes in the area. D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) had rushed to the scene the night before, telling reporters she was “outraged” after yet another act of gun violence. But amid a surge in shootings and recent high-profile incidents across the city — such as last week’s gunfire outside of Nationals Park and the killing of a 6-year-old girl in Southeast earlier this month. There is pressure on the two-term mayor and her administration to do something. I got together with my brothers and business partners of T.Y.P.E. INC. to talk about the DMV’s gun violence problem. I thought it was a great way for us to start sharing with the public who we are and what we want to do. I appreciate the men we are today and I hope we can provide programs and services that will impact our community in a positive way. #therealtalkpodcast
Dating today can be challenging. We were all raised differently, and individuals govern their lives based on the their morals and values. Many of us are set in our ways or dealing with past traumatic unresolved issues, which frequently can hinder us from communicating and meshing with others. Dating starts with compatibility, physical appearance, and attraction. We are usually drawn to the opposite sex's appearance, physical features, and personality. Though we are attracted to the outer appearance, men and women are not always compatible. Relationships are, in fact, built on a variety of things, including trust, communication, physical attraction, preferences, and what we bring to the table. Those factors do not always equal compatibility. In the infamous words of Alicia Keys, “Some people think that the physical things define what's within.” That couldn’t be further from the truth. Relationship expert/matchmaker and founder of The Help Meet Club joined RealTalk with The6thman on Clubhouse to share some of her tools used for matchmaking and to answer questions from those looking to gain more insight into the world of matchmaking and dating based on compatibility and law of attraction. The HelpMeet Club founder, Shaneeka McCray, Certified Matchmaker & Law of Attraction Coach, provides dating services for professional singles. The HelpMeet Club offers a wealth of services to support your relationship goals. https://thehelpmeetclub.com/ The conversation was powerful and enlightening, to say the least. The Real Talk family shared personal experiences as to why they may struggle with opening up to new people and experiences. Some also shared past traumatic experiences that have been a hindrance in allowing the opposite sex into their personal space. Finding the most compatible person is not the easiest thing to do. Buckle up and enjoy the ride on this enlightening conversation that covered many areas of dating. #therealtalkpodcast
There has been a rise in carjackings and crime throughout the region the last few weeks. There’s a high profile case involving 2 female teens 13 and 15 who faces criminal charges after their carjacking incident resulted in murder. Some folks think they need to be charged as adults while others think they need help and their parents should be held accountable. It’s a lot to take in so, I wanted help to get insight and a different perspective. I appreciate the opportunity to speak with friend of the show Robbie Woodland former ANC Commissioner of Ward 8 and first time guest Mike Alston former Gang Task Force Officer with DCPS. We got together to have a conversation about what’s going on and what can be done. Enjoy! #therealtalkpodcast
This podcast journey has been something I never imagined. I’ve met people who have influenced and impacted my life in ways I can’t explain. That’s why I remain humble and continue to serve my community being an outlet to allow others to Be Better Than They Were Yesterday. My guest tonight falls under that same mentality. I met Tookie at an event “Up from Falling Testimonies of the Ex Offender” hosted by Minister Christopher Tate & Friendship Church Outreach Ministries. Men got the opportunity to reflect and share their life experiences it was a powerful day. Tookie and I exchange information to connect later at some point to just chop it up. That time has come and I’m extremely proud of this man and his journey. He never gave up on himself and always gave himself a fighting chance to win! I’m humbled to hear him tell me he respects what I’m doing and in the same regard I totally respect what’s he’s gone through and what he’s doing today. We all have a past but, our outcome is determined by how we respond! This is a RealTalk conversation about living, learning and beating the odds! Enjoy! #therealtalkpodcast
Juan J. Johnson the founder of Lone Wolf Firearms Training is a National Certified NRA Instructor who is certified to teach firearms training in any state. Juan served the Metropolitan Police Department for almost 3 decades patrolling the streets of the District of Columbia and assigned to the Civil Disturbance Unit (CDU) where he learned how to shoot handguns, shotguns and handle ASP batons. Juan is a expert Marksman in handguns and is currently a licensed Firearm Instructor in the state of Maryland. Juan saw the need for more black men and women to become responsible firearm owners. I wanted to talk with him and get his thoughts on gun safety, education and gun ownership in the black community. This is an ongoing discussion but, I’m glad I had the opportunity to hear from him on this topic. #therealtalkpodcast

I appreciate the opportunity to have great dialog with members of my Facebook group and I welcome them to hit me up so, we can talk about things on their mind. In 2020 dating looks a lot different with having to wear a mask and being socially distant because of Covid-19. I can understand wanting companionship but, there’s a benefit in being by yourself while you take time to heal from your past relationship. This is a real conversation with a group member about divorce and dating in 2020. I understand everyone’s opinion will vary but, check out this authentic conversation that happen today off the humble! #therealtalkpodcast

I just wanted to take a moment to get a few things off my chest and let folks know what I’m feeling and why it’s best for me to say what I need to and move on. I’m learning that It’s best for me to talk about the things that bother me rather than hold onto my thoughts and negatively blow up later. 2020 has been one for the record books but, I’m still optimistic that we can still be better than we were yesterday! Love Ya’ll #therealtalkpodcast
