Pastor Jon and Pastor Phil discuss the potential merger of Fellowship Bible Church and Hope Covenant Church.
This week, we look at patience. We explore what patience is rooted in, why we struggle to be patient, what our deepest desires are and how our inability to fulfill such desires leads to a lack of patience. In the end, we return to the fact that all the fruits of the Spirit are rooted in our relationship with God and discover that true patience can only come out of that relationship.
In this sermon, we look at what it means to have peace. There are many ways to talk about peace, but here we look at what it means to have peace in our own lives. After all, we can only offer peace to the world when we ourselves have peace. We look at what this peace is like and what gets in the way, what stops us from having peace. We explore the peace that God offers us through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
In this sermon, we explore joy, the source of joy, and how to cultivate a life of joy.
This week, we began a new series looking at the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5. We explore how such fruit grows in our lives and what it means to be a person of love. Ultimately, love begins in God, overflows the Trinity into our lives, and expands from us into the world.

2019-08-0631:46

In this sermon, we discuss Jesus statement in Matthew 7:21 that "not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." We look at this theme throughout the Bible to understand how and why we do the will of the Father and how what Jesus teaches here connects to everything else in the Sermon on the Mount.

Wide & Narrow Gates

Wide & Narrow Gates

2019-07-2436:12

In this sermon, we discuss Jesus' teaching on the wide and narrow gates. As the Sermon on the Mount begins to conclude, Jesus is beginning to give His concluding teachings that help wrap up the entire discourse. We discuss the difference between the two gates/paths and what it looks like to choose the narrower gate based on Jesus own life and grace.
In this sermon, we explore Jesus important teaching about loving others as we would wish to be loved. Jesus states that this sums up the law and the prophets, making this one of the most important teachings in Scripture. We look at the reasons we sometimes struggle to love others as they, and we, deserve, especially focusing on our tendency to put up walls through labels and false stories that diminish rather than build up men and women made in the image of God. We look at a new way of seeing the world and how placing the fact that we are all made in God's image at the center is part of how we can begin to love everyone as Jesus commands.
Ask, Seek, Knock

Ask, Seek, Knock

2019-07-0836:21

In this sermon, we dive into Jesus teaching in Matthew 7 on asking, seeking, and knocking. We explore this invitation that Jesus offers to us and what it means to ask God for something. We look at the need for vulnerability and trust when we ask for something, as well as what this means for our daily lives and our relationship with God.
Judging

Judging

2019-07-0232:08

In this sermon, we look at Jesus teaching on judging in the Sermon on the Mount. We discuss what it is, the problem with judging, what it stems from, and how we can move away from such a posture. We look at Jesus' teaching through the lens of the Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector in Luke 18, exploring how each character in the story reveals something about judging and what that means for our lives today.

2019-06-1932:20

In this sermon, we look at Jesus' teaching about treasure in the Sermon on the Mount and the importance of what we most value and desire. This teaching leads into the next section of Jesus' sermon on worry and anxiety. It turns out that what we treasure will guide how we live (literally how we see the world and move through it) and ultimately how we engage the present and the future.
Fasting for Good Soil

2019-06-0339:37

In this sermon, we look at Jesus' statement concerning forgiveness immediately after the Lord's Prayer. We look at this teaching in light of Matthew 18 and Jesus' teaching about God's new economy of forgiveness. God's forgiveness is a gift which invites us into a completely new way of being in the world. It is in light of this new Kingdom Perspective that believers are called to forgive.

We then take some time to pray the prayer as a community and take a few moments with each line in prayer before God.
When You Pray

When You Pray

2019-05-1333:52

In this sermon, we explore Matthew 6:5-8 and Jesus teaching on prayer. We discuss what Jesus means when He says we shouldn't pray like those babble using many words and that God already knows what we need before we ask. Jesus' teaching on prayer comes out of His understanding of who God is and how God relates to us. The invitation to prayer is an invitation to respond to God who loves us and desires to provide for us.
