On this bonus episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham returns with one of his "Off Topic" conversations where he chats with some friends about some topics that may or may not relate to streaming movies, TV series, and stuff. This time, Graham chats with David & Gewaldine Dallemand, a young couple with whom he shared a vacation 3 years ago in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Graham remembers David spoke passionately about coffee and how David hoped to own a coffee business in the future.  A few months ago, David & Gewaldine started Kafe 1804, a business dedicated to sell coffee from Graham's country of birth Haiti. Graham being Gewaldine's great-uncle, invited her and husband David to sit down and talk about what it took to make this dream come true so quickly. David & Gewaldine, talked about the importance of getting the world re-acquainted with coffee from the Caribbean nation known as the first ever black republic; which once contributed up to 50% of the coffee consumed in the world.  After listening to this episode, visit Kafe 1804 for more information on  how to order and how to support this young couple's business. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/rss/kickinandstreaminpodcast?auth=QVLr3ZF4bBkffNZls4lBWTuUc2Tb0MD0)
On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss Netflix original series 'The Queen's Gambit' starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Marielle Heller, Bill Camp, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Moses Ingram. Graham began by explaining why he & Jocelyn took las week off from podcasting, even though they didn't set out to do so at the beginning of the week. Jocelyn & Graham discuss why they hesitated to start watching the series, as Graham has never been interested in playing chess, and Jocelyn describes herself as less than a casual player; however, they both became very interested in the story plot of The Queen's Gambit.  If you like this episode, please rate us on your podcast player, and subscribe for future episodes. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn review the Netflix original movie 'The Trial Of The Chicago 7' written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, and starring Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Strong, Yahya Abdul Mateen II, Mark Rylance , and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, along with all star supporting cast; which included Oscar-winning actor Frank Langella, Michael Keaton, Seth Rogen, and more.  Jocelyn began by synopsizing the movie in the broadest of terms -so as to avoid spoilers- followed by a discussion about the machinations of the powers of the state to criminalize free speech, the right to protest, and the criminalization of thoughts and ideals. Jocelyn drew the parallels between the case in which the movie was based; which took place over 50 years ago, to the most recent acts of civil disobedience that took place in the U.S during this past summer after the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and several other unarmed black civilians.  The two co-host also discuss the cast of the movie and their respective performances.  This and all of our podcast episodes will be available to watch on our YouTube channel on Fridays at noon. please don't forget to subscribe for future episodes. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn introduce a list of movies, TV series, and documentaries related to U.S. elections, U.S. presidents, and presidential campaigns. Graham & Jocelyn began by appealing to listeners in the U.S. to remember to vote on Tuesday, Nov 3, and emphasized on the importance of this year's election.  Graham brought up the oddity of how the United States is the only country he's lived where national election day is not a holiday. Jocelyn agrees, but pointed out she's also glad that voting is not mandatory the U.S., even though the some states take the liberty of purging voters out of the electoral role when they've failed to vote in a number of successive elections . Graham & Jocelyn continued the chat as they went through their list of movies, TV series and documentaries.  This and all of our podcast episodes will be available to watch on our YouTube channel on Fridays at noon. please don't forget to subscribe for future episodes. On this week's episode,  Jocelyn brings us her second yearly Halloween episode Streamin' Bloody Murder! 2.0. Graham & Jocelyn began by discussing the impact of Halloween during their respective childhood. Jocelyn associated most of her childhood Halloween memories with movies, whereas Graham explains that growing up in the Caribbean, Halloween was not specifically a Holiday, but there were some traditions and observance of the first two days of November as the Day of The Dead. After this brief exchange, Jocelyn took the reins in presenting five movies and series she recommends; which don't necessarily fall in the category of "horror" movies, but rather "murder mystery" movies.  This episode will also be available to watch on our YouTube channel and please don't forget to subscribe for future episodes. On this episode of Kickin' * Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss Prime Video original series Utopia, starring John Cusack, Sasha Lane, and Rainn Wilson along with a fantastic cast of actors.  Graham & Jocelyn think the show's trailer did not do justice to the brilliant and absolutely nerve-racking plotline it has.  Graham  could not stop watching the show once he began, and Jocelyn thinks the series is 'Bats' which Graham says it's one of the highest praises Jocelyn gives to any great series or movies she watches. Jocelyn attempted to find a "spoiler-free" way to give listeners a synopsis of Utopia, but she struggled. Graham & Jocelyn dived deep into the series, the surprises and complexities of the storyline. The two co-hosts also review the cast, and Jocelyn gives Utopia a four and-a-half stars.  This episode will also be available to watch on our YouTube channel and please don't forget to subscribe for future episodes. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn review Netflix Original movie Enola Holmes starring Millie Bobby Brown, Louis Partridge, Helena Bonham-Carter, Henry Cavill, and Sam Caflin. Graham began by asking Jocelyn what attracted her toward a movie about Sherlock Holmes' younger sister when she's a a die-hard Sherlock fan. Jocelyn explains her fascination for the Holmes mythology and how a much younger member of the Holmes family in her view is not only a welcome addition, but one that she applauds and embrace. Graham & Jocelyn began to dissect the time period in which the movie is set and the historical importance of the moment. Jocelyn speaks fondly about her father's love for Sherlock Holmes and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's body of work with the Holmes Mythology. Graham brought up the parallels between Enola Holmes childhood and upbringing with Jocelyn's childhood and upbringing, and asked Jocelyn to talk about it. Graham & Jocelyn then delved into the cast and the ins and outs.  If you like this episode, please rate us on your podcast player, and subscribe for future episodes. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast Graham & Jocelyn discuss Britbox/ITV original series 'A Confession' starring Martin Freeman, Siobhan Finneran, Imelda Staunton, and BAFTA Best Supporting Actor nominee Joe Absolom. Graham was reluctant to start watching the show, even though it consistently popped up on his screen as while navigating Prime Video, or Britbox. The series is based on a real life story told from the point of view of former Wiltshire Detective Superintendent (D.S.I) Stephen Fulcher. Graham did not recognize Martin Freeman's image on the show's poster due to the intense makeup and prosthetics the actor may have worn in order to resemble the original DSI Fulcher. Graham & Jocelyn analyze and extrapolate the stark contrasts in police procedure and investigation between the UK and the US.  The two co-host also discuss the cast and each cast members' award-winning worthy performance, especially actor Joe Absolom's portrayal of convicted murderer Christopher Halliwell; which earned him a best supporting actor nomination.   This episode will also be available to watch on our YouTube channel and please don't forget to subscribe for future episodes. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham and Jocelyn discuss a Netflix original four-part documentary titled Challenger: The Final Flight; which gives an in-depth analysis to the buildup and aftermath of the Challenger tragedy of January 1986. Graham began by remembering what little he knew about the Challenger story as he was a 10 year-old child in his native Haiti. Jocelyn remembers being off from school on the day of the tragedy, but could not remember the reason she wasn't in school. Graham & Jocelyn chat further as to why this documentary is of utmost important in the present days and what it means for those of us who were young children at the time; much like the recent younger generation which were little at the time of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The co-hosts continued to delve into the film, analyzing the attempted cover-up on the part of NASA and how the tragedy could have been averted. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss an obscure, yet brilliant Netflix Original movie titled: Wasp Network; starring Penelope Cruz, Edgar Ramirez, Ana de Armas, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal. The movie is based on a real story written detailed in a book The Last Soldiers of The Cold Was by author Fernando Morais. Graham & Jocelyn began by asking why this movie doesn't seem to have been promoted fairly by Netflix given the fact it premiered in June. Graham found out about the movie while flipping through Netflix a few h ago, but failed to put it on his watch list, and when he returned to look for the movie, he had to perform a search for it. Graham speculated whether the Cuban-American community may have lobbied against the movie with Netflix, Jocelyn confirmed she'd read the Cuban-American community in Miami wasn't thrilled about the movie. Graham & Jocelyn wondered whether Netflix was truly the ultimate destination for Wasp Network since it had premiered in France back in January and was scheduled to be released elsewhere in Europe; which led Jocelyn to think Wasp Network may have been destined for cinema, but had to be released on Netflix due to the pandemic.  If you like this episode, please rate us on your podcast player, and subscribe for future episodes. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss HBO's original series Lovecraft Country, starring Jonathan Majors, Jurnee Smollett, Michael K. Williams. Before delving into the topic, Graham & Jocelyn took a moment to express their sadness and shock at the sudden passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. Jocelyn said when learned of Boseman's untimely death, she thought it was as a result of some car crash or another kind of tragic sudden death, but she then learned the actor 43 year-old had been secretly fighting colon cancer for almost four years, all the while going about his life and filming 9 different movies during that difficult time. Graham reflected on Boseman's illustrious, albeit short movie career and stated it was almost impossible to pinpoint a bad movie from the Anderson, South Carolina native. Rest In Peace, Chadwick Boseman!Graham & Jocelyn began to discuss the series Lovecraft Country; which at the time of recording, had only aired two episodes. Jocelyn likes the series and says it was the kind of show she really enjoys. After giving a brief synopsis, Graham and Jocelyn chatted about the elements that makes the series so special, part of which includes the involvement of "Get Out" and "Us" director Jordan Peele, and Star Wars director JJ Abrams as co-producers.   If you like this episode, please rate us on your podcast player, and subscribe for future episodes. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss the much anticipated Netflix orignal movie Project Power starring Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and up-and-coming young actress Dominique Fishback. The movie also features Courtney B. Vance, Amy Landecker, Rodrigo Santoro, and Hip Hop recording artist Machine Gun Kelly. Graham & Jocelyn agree that although the movie had all the bells and whistles deserving of a theatrical release, in the end, Project Power offered a better cast than the movie it could have been. Jocelyn suggested movie critics seem to more understanding and less harsh in their criticism of streaming platforms like Netflix when they fail to deliver from multi-million dollar blockbusters like Project Power. Graham agrees, and added Project Power was by all account a good action movie with a flawed storytelling style delivery. Graham & Jocelyn moved on to discuss the cast and some other elements of the movie.  If you like this episode, please rate us on your podcast player, and subscribe for future episodes. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn review Netflix original series "Cursed," starring Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why), Devon Terrell (Barry), Shalom Brune Franklin (Our Girl), and Gustaf Skarsgard (Vikings), along with a magnificent cast of actors. Graham began by stating he originally had no interest in watching Cursed, but received so many notifications and reminders from Netflix, he decided to give it a go and was left unimpressed. Jocelyn said she simply didn't like the show and couldn't manage to find anything likable about it. The two co-hosts went on to discussing the essential flaws they found in the storytelling portion of the series. Graham & Jocelyn agree that Cursed could potentially be a great show given the fact that it's based on Arthurian legend; which has long influenced some of the greatest fantasy stories of our times, however something seems to have gone amiss on this series. Graham & Jocelyn discussed the cast and had high praise for each of the actors and the execution of their roles.  If you like this episode, please rate us on your podcast player, and subscribe for future episodes. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn review the Netflix original series The Woods, a Polish adapatation of the novel by bestselling American novelist Harlan Coben. Jocelyn began by giving a brief, spoiler-less synopsis of the six-part series, and both Graham & Jocelyn praised the overall performance of each actor in the series, especially the younger actors who portrayed the main characters in flashback style. Jocelyn was impressed with the cinematography and the perfect styling of the 90's era of the series, but was most impressed by the fact that the work of an American author was produced and performed in another country. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn divide split the podcast in two halves as they discuss 2 Netflix original movies. On the first half, Graham & Jocelyn discuss the documentary film "Mucho Mucho Amor...The Legend of Walter Mercado" a Puerto Rican-born actor and dancer who eventually became one the most famous and beloved astrologers in Latin America and the world. Jocelyn provides a plausible explanation as to why more English-speaking Americans did not seem to know much about Walter Mercado's life story even though for most of his career, he lived and worked in mainland US and had a bilingual following. Jocelyn also said the film was a perfectly fitting love letter and a well deserved tribute to Walter who was a kind, gentle, and almost child-like soul. Graham shared his experience as a child growing up in the Dominican Republic and how many mothers, grandmothers, and entire families were glued to their TV set waiting for Walter Mercado's horoscope segment. Jocelyn & Graham also discuss how Walter's approach to astrology and horoscope was never misleading, or about making money and scamming, but rather through a message of positivism and empowerment. "Mucho Mucho Amor...The Legend of Walter Mercado" is streaming on Netflix.  On the second half of the podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss the movie The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts & Chiwetel Ejiofor, and a fantastic cast of actors. Jocelyn gave a brief synopsis of the movie and said she found the movie to be highly entertaining and found Charlize Theron to be credible as Andy. Graham and Jocelyn go on to dissect the movie, its cast, and characters, and what makes The Old Guard stand out as a new set of superheroes. The pair began by acknowledging how this year's summer will likely be in a blur to most people since most people have had to stay at home and children have been out of school since the early March due to the global pandemic of Covid-19.
