SlapperCast Episode 261: "Nostradamus on Bass"
This is a short but very complex episode. An unusual situation required us to drive to an out-of-town gig in three different vehicles. Patrick, Chad and Turbo recorded segments individually while driving, and our friend Greg Fugate provided footage of the live show at Logon Cafe.
Unfolding throughout the episode is the story of how two soundguys at two different venues got intertwined with one name, erroneously and yet also somewhat precognitively... because of one befuddled bass player.

SlapperCast Episode 259: "Dock Curious"
PART ONE: Patrick and Chad continue our conversations about Elvis, Phil Lynott and Thin LIzzy. We imagine what might have been if Philo and Elvis had collaborated, and also talk about Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson ("Robbo"), who was only 17 years old when Phil Lynott hired him as the first replacement for Eric Bell.
PART TWO: Recorded in the van with Turbo on our way home from our gig at the Wounded Ostrich in Deep Ellum, Dallas. We had a GREAT time at the show, and thus the energy levels in this segment are high. We talk about our experience at the gig, and Turbo also brings us up to speed on his recent visit to Costa Mesa for a special SJC Custom Drums event. Also we do a few "shine-a-lights" on songs we've been digging on recently, which had been missing from the last few episodes.

Here is our ELVIS episode. How we first became aware of him, why we love him, his music, his sense of humor, favorite songs, the movies, the impersonators, and his legacy.
Like with Thin Lizzy and the Pogues, this is only the beginning of what is sure to be an ongoing conversation about one of our biggest heroes.

This one was recorded en route to our gig at Kelly's Irish Pub in Austin, and again on the way home, with Patrick daughter's Tara running camera and joining in the conversation.
Towards the end of the first segment we encountered a torrential downpour that got so loud we had to stop recording. It was still raining when we arrived at Kelly's, and the wooden stage area was exposed to the elements and completely soaked through. But thankfully the bar manager allowed us to commander the covered area of the patio.
There were hints online that the turnout that night would be good, but we were still knocked out by how many people showed up, especially considering the weather… and by the time we started playing it was standing room only and packed to the gills. This was the first gig we'd played in Austin since Fadó closed in 2018, so it was quite a thrill to see so many old friends and familiar faces, and of course all our new friends as well.
Chris Buckley joined us on fiddle for this show and did a FANTASTIC job. Also, towards the end of the show, Tara joined us to sing "Fairytale of New York", which made the night even more special.
In between the two segments is a bit of video that Turbo filmed from the stage shortly after we'd all raised a toast, where you can see how jam-packed the patio was at Kelly's.
Cheers to you all....HAPPY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We talk about Patrick giving up sugar, our upcoming Arizona tour dates, ROCK THE SHELTER benefit at the Continental Club Houston, the disturbing prevalence of autotune in popular music, and why Turbo hates killing songs.

Instead of getting some rest upon returning home from Ireland this past Thursday, Patrick, Turbo and Chad dove straight into another three days of gigs. Episode 247 was recorded on the way to Saturday's gig in Galveston at AXECADE during the Lone Star Rally (the largest motorcycle rally in Texas).
We recap the Ireland tour, do some song kills and shine-a-lights, and Patrick talks about how he once got arrested at Houston's now defunct Westheimer Arts Festival.
ALSO we welcome two special guests: Cameron and Julia Crawford, the owners of our much beloved Home Sweet Farm Biergarten in Brenham, who came with us to Ireland and joined Patrick in conversation one night in Cork.

This one was recorded in the lobby of the Killarney Plaza Hotel on the fourth night of our 2023 Ireland Tour, with footage from the tour interspersed throughout. We give you an update on the trip so far, with an eye on next year. This tour, our ninth one so far, has been going wonderfully and I think we can say without hesitation that it's the best one yet.
