Guided or DIY elk hunts? A question we have been getting a lot these days. Many hunters planning their upcoming hunts, especially first timers, are weighing whether they should hunt DIY or consider hiring a guide:"What strengths does a guide bring to a hunt that I couldn't?""Would I learn more from a guide?""Will I have more success?""Can I afford it?""Can I get a guide on public land?""What do you recommend?"On Today’s Edition of Blue Collar Elk Hunting, your elk hunting coaches talk the pros & cons of guided vs DIY elk hunts. Included in the discussion is how not all guided or "do it yourself" hunts look alike and the variables that can bring the two closer in some ways as well as put them on the opposite ends of the scale in others.  It's a great topic and one where your coaches have plenty of experience on both sides of the fence. Hope you enjoy the episode. EVERYTHING ElkBros – https://www.elkbros.comPURCHASE ElkBros Merch - https://gear.elkbros.comBLUE COLLAR ELK HUNTING ACADEMY  - https://elkbros.com/shopWatch the Blue Collar Elk Hunting Podcast: https://youtube.com/c/elkbrosListen to their Blue Collar Elk Hunting Podcast: http://podcast.elkbros.com/ SUBSCRIBE! To be an Efficient Elk Hunter it means you get the job done quick, consistently and with deadly accuracy.  But just as there are efficient and inefficient predators, there are also efficient and inefficient elk hunters. The differences coming from having or lacking needed knowledge or skills. Every hole in your game as an elk hunter decreases your ability to create opportunities and can increase the chances of a poor or bad shot when that opportunity does present itself. On Today’s Edition of Blue Collar Elk Hunting, your Coaches discuss what it takes to become an efficient elk hunter and help you understand from the beginning... there is no magic wand! If you want to know the areas you need to work on to take your elk hunting to the next level, then this is the show for you. So pull up a chair and stay a while. Elk decoys are extremely effective in the right situation. But what is the right situation? You are in a partner setup and there he is! Your partner is about 50 yards in front of you in shooting position. Only 100 yards out from your partner you can see the tips of his horns as he begins to come over the rise. Your heart starts racing! He comes over the rise in clear view, stops and belts an earth shaking bugle! And then...he locks up. He is just standing there looking directly in your direction. Decision time...what do you do? A cow call? A bugle? Well y'all, what you have here is the perfect situation...decoy time!On Today’s Edition of Blue Collar Elk Hunting, your Coaches cover different situations and scenarios for using elk decoys and help you to understand why & when a decoy is effective. They also talk about strategies for both Solo and Partner setups as well as carrying, deploying and the types of decoys they use. Pull up a chair and come on in to elk camp! If you plan on being successful on your elk hunt, then there is one more thing you had better be planning for... getting your meat off the mountain! It seems that we are getting so many questions these days. Questions about mistakes to avoid when field dressing your elk. Or, whether you even need to even field dress? How long before meat will go bad?  When to hang meat or not to hang it? What to do if you get back to your base camp and your ice is gone? Each of us wants to honor both the hunt and the animal by being as ethical and responsible as possible when it comes to the harvest of our kill. So this is an episode that you don't want to miss!On Today’s Edition of Blue Collar Elk Hunting, Elk Hunting Coach Joe Giglia is joined by Jason Nauert, known by most as Jason the Butcher. Jason is a professional butcher, elk hunter and outdoor specialist that instructs military and civilians survival processing of wild and domestic animals. We promise you this, Jason knows his stuff. In this episode, you are about to get some incredible content and discussions concerning mistakes and misunderstandings when it comes to field care of your elk. Discussions on techniques, hunter scenarios and incredible insights into things that Joe himself had thought to be either gospel or taboo when it came to care of elk after the kill.Y’all, there is power in knowledge and let us tell you, this show brings it.EVERYTHING ElkBros – https://www.elkbros.comPURCHASE ElkBros Merch - https://gear.elkbros.comBLUE COLLAR ELK HUNTING ACADEMY  - https://elkbros.com/shopWatch the Blue Collar Elk Hunting Podcast: https://youtube.com/c/elkbrosListen to their Blue Collar Elk Hunting Podcast: http://podcast.elkbros.com/ SUBSCRIBE! So you have made to the elk woods and you look around and say to yourself, WHAT NOW? You are not alone. If it’s your first time or your 10th time elk hunting, sometimes the toughest part is knowing where in the heck to start. Where to start looking for elk? To start calling? And where do you go from there once you do start? The whole process can become intimidating to the point that a person can feel lost and question everything they are doing. On Today’s Edition of Blue Collar Elk Hunting, a collaboration podcast that was an interview of Elk Hunting Coach Joe Giglia by Chad Ryker and the BackCountry Rookies Podcast. The idea of this show was to help new hunters not be intimidated by the mountains and elk hunting.  Chad explains in the beginning that his first year he was blown away at the size of the Colorado mountains and as prepared as he thought he was, the first step in the woods was intimidating.  Joe settles some of the confusion and talks through scenarios to help prepare a new hunter for the mountain and the elk.
