We stopped at the Tourist Office in Holbrook, AZ for a pit stop and found much more: The Navajo County Historical Society Museum. It's an official Arizona information center. The museum houses the original sheriff's office that served Navajo County beginning in 1989. The adjacent jail was in use until 1976. The rest of the courthouse was built around the cells. Exhibits include a post office, communications equipment, early kitchen items, a late 1800 pump organ, general merchandise, The Route 66 Auditorium, a school room, antique office equipment, law libraries, the Navajo County Sheriff's Hashknife Posse's annual Pony Express Ride memorabilia, military memorabilia, the old court reporter's library, and the Judges' Chamber, a display of the story of the Blevins Shootout when Sheriff Commodore Perry Owens tried to serve and arrest warrant for Andy Cooper, including a model of the Blevins Home where the shootout took place. There are also the WPS and CCC programs of President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal (that were completed in the neighboring Petrified Forest National Park and in Holbrook), and much more.  "The Navajo County Courthouse served citizens for seventy-eight years, dispensing justice, collecting tax levies, recording public recoresd,a dn issuing marriage licenses." Thanks to Dawn Sawyer for the helpful info and for speaking with us at the Holbrook Tourism Office and Museum maintained by the Navajo County Historical Society.www.GoHolbrook.comwww.ci.holbrook.az.ushttps://www.facebook.com/Holbrookaz/http://www.holbrookazmuseum.orghttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Navajo%20County%20Historical%20Society/1647157125506346/http://holbrookazmuseum.org/contact.phphttps://www.facebook.com/NavajoCountywww.visitarizona.comhttps://www.instagram.com/visit_arizona/https://www.facebook.com/arizonatravel@TravelChannelNavajo County Historical Society100 East Arizona StreetHolbrook, Arizona 86025928.524.6558holbrookazmuseum.org #holbrook, @holbrook, #travelchannel, @TravelChannel, #paranormal, #ghosts, #westernculture, #cowboys, #indians, #indianreservations, #hopi, #hopiindians, #hopireservation, #navajo, #navajoindians, #navajoreservation, #historicmuseum, #tourismoffice, #tourismbureau, #historicsociety, #navajocounty, #navajocountymuseum, #travel, #travelpodcast, #vistiarizona, #az, #holbrookaz, @visitarizona, @navajocounty, @visit_arizona, @arizonatravel, #visit_arizona, #arizonatravel, #travelhistory, #roam, #theroamies, #popamericana, #covers, #route66, #getyourkicks, #66, #R66,

I think this is a great time for people who are used to traveling to go back to your hard drive ... take some time to revel in the memories," Nabongo said. "I think because we're constantly planning the next trip, we never get to reminisce about what was so great about so many trips that we've already had, whether it's two months ago, two years ago or 12 years ago."Even if you can’t make the time right now for an official “Staycation” you can implement some of these strategies to inlcud emore YOU time into your busy on-the-go schedule. We are inspired by these 3 tips from Jessica Sager:* @ohheyjesssager * https://parade.com/1060271/jessicasager/best-staycation-ideas/ 1.Have weekly rituals. There’s a reason Taco Tuesday is so popular: It makes people happy! Whether it’s food- or self-care- related (Sleep In Sundays, for example), having weekly rituals can give you something to look forward to all summer, as well as help you keep track of time, which, let’s be honest, hasn’t been too easy in the age of coronavirus.2.Sleep in3.Wake up really early."We know, you’re probably like, 'But this is supposed to be like a vacation!' We’re not suggesting waking up at 5 a.m. to do work, be it for your job, around the house or otherwise — instead, waking up early can give you a few precious minutes or hours to yourself that you may not otherwise have. How you spend that time, whether it’s reading a book you’ve had lying around, really savoring your coffee, going for a run or just sitting in stillness, is up to you."Aquariums: https://www.neaq.org/visit/at-home-events-and-activities/e New England Aquarium, the

Staycationing means vacationing from home. Whether it’s a long weekend or an entire week, you get to choose what each day will entail. Taking a much-needed mental health break from your normal routine (and from the world news) is key to recharging your batteries. Here in Part 2, we suggest:TOUR YOUR OWN CITYWhen was the last time you walked around your own  hometown?  Even if a lot of local attractions are shut down, you can still walk around and learn something about the history and culture of your area and find new places to walk and hike. Or Take quick drive to a nearby town or even an unfamiliar suburb of your own city can make a fun adventure.  Drive an hour out and see what you find- take day trips- explore ...for added fun- go for a top-down cruised in a Rented convertible for the day. turn off your map apps and get lost in your city And of course, add The ROAMies ,Alexa James and Rory Partin  music to your road trip and exploring playlists :)   And don’t forget- You can also Geocache locally! Geocaching is a family friendly activity you can dowhile safely social distancing. Geocaching is the world's largest treasure hunt https://www.geocaching.com/play1. To get started, you can Create an account online or through the Geocaching® app to view a map of geocaches near you.2. Find a geocache. Use the app to navigate to a geocache nearby. Don’t forget to bring a pen (and consider hiding your own once you’ve found around 20 of them)! 3. Share your experience.  Once you find the geocache, sign and date the logbook. Place the geocache back where you found it and log your experience online.Enjoy a Self-Care SPA DAYGive yourself permission to balance the stress of what's going on and let your mind be at ease. Take a self-care day and indulge in being by yourself and/or pampering yourself. Homemade facials and mani-pedi’s to exfoliating baths and yoga and stretching and eating poshy healthy foods.  You can even take extra steps to decorate your bathroom like a resort spa, fix some citrus infused ice water, essential oils, beautiul flower bouquets, relaxing music and schdule your homemade spa services. My favorite homemeade mask is super simple- whip up an egg white or two to a nice foam and apply to a clean face for 20 minutes. This really lifts and tightens your skin and it feels wonderful. Yogurt, banana and avacado have wonderful hydrating properties and also easily mix together to create a wonderful mask made from your kitchen ingredients. HOME REPAIR, RENOVATIONS AND REMAKESOf course, sometimes you need staycations to get those house projects DONE, finally declutter and organize hidden closets and basements, and set up your home to serve you,  This might include creating a backyard oasis, rearranging furniture, make the bedroom feel like a luxurious hotel suite,  create spa areas in your bathroom, making use of your formal dining room and nice dishware, Make your living room more cozy- creating spaces that feel like vacation and retreat to you, as well as zoned areas for your most efficient workflow. Or just for a fun change, get out the paint and paint a wall a different color or paint some furniture. Along those lines, it’s also time to fess up and realize that if you still have unfinished home projects that you haven’t done with extra quarantine time on your hands- that maybe you really don’t want to finish the project - or maybe it’s not the exact right project for that space. Hire a professional and/or get that unused wood taking up space

A STAYcation IS a wonderful opportunity for your kids or grandkids to learn about and appreciate other countries and cultures while having fun all at the same time. CREATIVE COOKING: instead of grabbing takeout or the same old same old- Try new cultural themes and new recipes.  Ask each family member where they would like to travel if they could go anywhere right now. Use those locations to inspire creative cooking and baking.   Can’t get to Singapore  this year? Find some recipes and experience a version of the culture from your own kitchen.VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES:IN the evenings- you can hunker down on your couch and enjoy VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES as a family. We’ll put links to these in our show notesVIRTUAL MUESUMS!  Much more fun with family members. Connect your computer to your big screen and tour online virtual museums together. No one will be there to “Shush” you while you make comments about the interesting and historical things you find.  We liked an idea we saw on travelingtanya.com : create a virtual scavenger hunt.See who can be the first to figure out how to say Happy Birthday in Italian, discover the primary language spoken in Switzerland, or reveal the population of Thailand. And to keep the VIRTUAL theme going, you can also virtually TOUR National theme parks. We’ll put the link to that in the show notes. https://www.departures.com/travel/national-parks-virtual-tourTake a virtual castle tour  https://www.tripstodiscover.com/virtual-castle-tours/from the comfort of your couch and indulge in history without all the musty smells and drafts.Take a tour of an airplane. Not flying this year? Get the feel of it anyway with a virtual tour of an Airbus, including the cockpit.  https://www.airbus.com/aircraft/passenger-aircraft/cockpits.htmlYou can also take virtual tours of the places you’ve always wanted to go (and perhaps some of the places you planned on going this year pre-COVID) with Tours By Locals or  With virtual tours of Japan, The Great Wall of China, the Northern Lights, numerous World Heritage Sites, Maldives and more.#staycation, #stayathome, #virtualexperiences, @toursbylocals, #localtours, #virtualtours, #stayathome, #summertravel, #staycationideas, #homeschoolideas, #culturalexperiences, #travelpodcast, #getaway, #travel #adventure #wanderlust #vacation #travelgram #explore #holiday #travels #traveler #traveller #traveling #television #tv  #music #entertainment #films #tvshow #igdaily

Our buddy, Brian, pulled off prepping for an RV getaway 'cross country with his family in just 3 days!! It's not too late to check out some summer fun options that are also safe options that help you #stayathome - at least virtually. :)  And, of course, when renting, especially privately, make sure to ask about their cleaning protocols — and in any case, bring along some sanitary wipes.Pricing depends on the size of the vehicle you’re renting, the length of the trip and the time of year you’re traveling.  On average, you can expect to pay $45-$250 per night. You can travel, sleep, and eat in the same self-contained environment, connect with nature and discover lesser-known locations with limited contact with others.  And a lot of your comforts of home can come with you while on vacay. If you’re hankering to take a road trip without the risk of walking into and out of hotel rooms, restaurants, and public restrooms, RVing allows you to bring your own accommodations along for the ride.It can also be a safer way to visit friends and family …… you can have a social distance dinner and park in their driveway or street for a night or two..they don’t have to kick their kids out of their bedrooms to make room for you. :)And depending on the rental company, you can have your pets traveling with you- so you don’t have to pay boarding fees and they can enjoy the sights with you- and they have a safe place to stay during the day when you’re out and about- AS Long as you follow guidelines to keep them VERY COOL And with plentiful access to water.TIP: RVs generally need to be driven slower than cars, so a trip may take longer than your favorite map app estimates. To up-level your glamping experience by staying in one general vicinity not too relatively far from home. - like in your home state or just a 2-5 hour drive away. Less driving, fuel and mileage, you still get away and, like a cruise or a resort, you have the same place to sleep in and come back to each night. We FIRST recommend calling your local and regional RV Sales Lots and find out if they have any rental and/or RV Relocator options. Airbnb Alternates Golightly, Koala, MyPlace, Zeevou DirectThere are a number of small, ambitious new companies emerging that are specifically targeting savvy travelers. And apparently their main goal is to improve the home-sharing experience. One of the new players in the home-sharing field is a women-only platform. With the majority of their listings being in the US and Europe. Along with some of the other newer platforms, their aim to improve on the Airbnb or Vrbo models by more strictly controlling who has access to the homes, the kind of units for rent and the fees that hosts pay to list with the different platforms. Golightly was launched in January 2020, and just as they were getting some traction, the pandemic hit. But despite the Corona Virus and restrictions on travel and such, they have grown 30 percent, to 590 properties. As we mentioned earlier, most are in the United States and Europe, but there are also homes in Argentina, Israel and South Africa. A qualified woman renting at one of the properties can pay anywhere $80 for a studio apartment, to over $1,000 for a country estate in Ireland.Golightly Members must refer any new members in order to preserve the “friend of a friend” network they have built. But they do have a path to membership for unaffiliated women. They simply apply for membership and can be vetted by a Golightly staffer, who becomes their referring friend. Spanning property hosts, managers and travelers, all members identify as women, though they may travel with companions of any gender. They require a one-time membership fee of $100, which has been suspended during the Corona Virus pandemic. All of the listings are vetted by an actual OR a virtual walk-through by Golightly staffers to verify the homes are as described or photographed.Rent a time shareWith more than 1,500 time shares in the United States and over 5,300 worldwide, it is little surprise that there would be a new service which aims to help time-share owners rent out their vacation weeks. Enter, Koala, scheduled to launch in August, 2020.According to co-founder Mike Kennedy, the average price of a two-bedroom rental is about $2,500 a week. Time share Owners choose their cancellation terms. And because time-share owners set their own terms and rates, and often time are only looking to break even on expenses, the Koala listed resale rates for time-share units may be lower than the comparable rates offered by the Resorts.Home sharing with friendsAnother new kid on the block is MyPlace. Launched in March of this year by Zach Bell and Rameet Chawla, MyPlace envisions a home-share option where owners don’t seek to make money off their spare bedroom or vacation home. Instead, they only share it with a trusted circle of friends and family, and maybe friends and family of their friends and family. For example, it would most likely be free to Mom and Dad, but a friend of your college roommate would probably have to pay up to help cover a portion of the rent. Bell and Chawla launched the service only within their own circle of friends and family, about 2,500 people. with listings in Australia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Spain as well as the United States.Mr. Bell says their goal is NOT to create a public market of B&B entrepreneurs. Instead, it would look more like everyone wanting to share, but not rent on the public market. They are aiming to improve booking technology beyond what other home-share options are currently offering.
