We’re celebrating The Rural Woman Podcast’s second anniversary with a Patron-Only episode with my dear friend Billi J. Miller. Billi was one of my very first interviews all the way back on episode 3 of the podcast. Billi is an author, photographer, speaker and writer from east-central Alberta, Canada. Previously a city-living, 9-5 Government worker, Billi moved to the country to marry the man of her dreams in 2010, and traded concrete and traffic for life on a 100-year old prairie farm. Our initial intent for this interview was to talk about her newest publishing – Bubble Took A Trip, a children’s book she wrote and self published with her two daughters. We ended up having a meaningful conversation about Billi’s recent farmhouse renovation and what it’s like being the in-law in a multigenerational farmhouse that I left in the interview. I think this is one of my top 5 favourite conversations I’ve had on the show. On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast you'll meet Cathy R. Payne, Ed.D. Cathy retired from a thirty-three year teaching career in 2010. At age fifty-seven, she started a sustainable farm, Broad River Pastures, in Elberton, Georgia with her husband, Jon. The farm specialized in nutrient-dense food and heritage breeds of livestock. In her third year of farming, she discovered the Guinea Hog breed. It seemed like a perfect fit for an eleven-acre homestead. She became frustrated, however, about the scant information she could find about the hogs’ history and bloodlines. Cathy had experience with interviews, research, and writing from her doctoral program, so decided to write the book herself titled Saving the Guinea Hogs: The Recovery of an American Homestead Breed which we’ll speak about today. Cathy has made a generous offer for listeners of the Rural Woman Podcast. Go to her website at www.GuineaHogBooks.com and click on “Shop Here” to find her books. If you choose the softcover version, use coupon code rwp25 at checkout. This will take $6.49 off the price of the book, and free media mail shipping is included. | Valid until 03/11/21 For full show notes including links mentioned in today's show, head on over to WildRoseFarmer.com https://wildrosefarmer.com/2021/02/12/episode-89-guinea-hog/ Extended Content | Listen Here Support my work on Patreon | Learn More Patreon Executive Producer | Sarah R. | Happiness by The Acre Editing | Max Hofer | MixBär Studio
