The question of the environment is closely linked to that of justice. Ukraine is a pioneer in bringing the acts of ecocide into the discussion of justice in the context of war. Everything either comes from plants or a hole in the ground. The products have all been designed somewhere by someone. Does that make designers part of the problem or part of the solution? If so, how?Can we conceive of solutions to our world’s climate emergency, forest fires and rising sea levels, conflict and the hunger that goes with it – all while cooling the planet? Charlie offers some suggestions. Prior to the Address, 4 new Royal Designers for Industry (RDI) and 3 new Honorary Royal Designers for Industry will be welcomed to the Faculty.  The title ‘Royal Designer for Industry’ is awarded annually by the RSA to designers of all disciplines who have achieved sustained design excellence, work of aesthetic value and significant benefit to society. The RDI is the highest accolade for designers in the UK. Only 200 designers can hold the title.
