It's an episode 65 Million Years In the Making, as the 90s Movies Podcast finally covers 1993's Jurassic Park, arguably the biggest movie of the 90s (all major theme parks have delays)! Join us and special guest, Chaz from Cinema Medicine Podcast, as we talk every single plot point of the film, how it reflects on the book, how it reflects on the other Jurassic Park films, as well as the music, the video game tie-ins, our first experience with the film, a trademark Filmshake nihilism monologue, if you want it, we got it for two hours! Life finds a way, and if it has anything to do with Jurassic Park, we'll find a way to talk about it!We also talk our punishment film, 1992's The Lost World, which is like Jurassic Park if Jurassic Park was not good, as well as engage in an episode-ending dinosaur-centric trivia battle because we do intend to have dinosaurs on our dinosaur tour.Music Heard This Episode:"Journey to the Island" -- John Williams"Incident at Isla Nublar" -- John Williams"Jurassic Park Gate" -- John Williams"Eye to Eye" -- John Williams"Ocean (Submarine Symphony)" - Jon DunnSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
On the 25th anniversary of its release, the two guys who brought you phrases like "brain boners," "milady, you've got the chompers of a basset hound," and "Amy want night tickle" are here to talk 1998's critically acclaimed World War II film, Saving Private Ryan.  And who better? Your gnarly boys not only breakdown the technical aspects of Steven Spielberg's direction, but somehow break into a Kantian dialogue pitting Jeremy Benthem's philosophy of Utilitarianism against classical Deontology. I'm serious. Filmshake is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get, and we don't even care if that's the wrong Tom Hanks movie. You also get, very briefly, discussion about our punishment film, 2005's The Great Raid, and of course, as always, an episode-ending trivia battle to the death.Filmshake: We're FUBAR...but in a good way!Music Heard This Episode:"Hymn to the Fallen" -- John Williams"Omaha Beach" -- John Williams"High School Teacher" -- John Williams"Revisiting Normandy" -- John WilliamsSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
"He's mean, and he'll blast through your screen!" but that's okay, you don't need a screen for Filmshake, cuz we're a podcast, and we're talking 1993's Last Action Hero on its 30th anniversary. We'll try to decide if this *DEEP BREATH*  fantasy action comedy drama deserved to flop harder than Lebron James at the box office (that joke means two things now!), or if it's actually an unsung gem, like Space Jam: A New Legacy  (lol, just kidding Lebron). To find out, we've brought on the world's preeminent Last Action Hero expert, Jackson Boren, to let us know if Arnold Schwarzenegger's venture into the meta should have been a hit (like Michael Jordan's Space Jam) and Jackson's brought a friend. That friend is our punishment film, Arnie's lone directorial effort, 1992's made for TV romantic comedy remake, Christmas in Connecticut. Does it stand on its own two feet, or does it fall violently to the ground at the mere sight of an elbow, like Lebron does? Only one way to find out! Listen to this episode (unless you're Lebron*)!*Just kidding, Lebron, you can listen, but find a chair first.Music Featured This Episode"Jack and the Ripper" by Michael Kamen"The Real World" by Michael Kamen"River Chase" by Michael Kamen"Premiere" by Michael Kamen"Big Gun" by AC/DCSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
It may be rainin' but there's a rainbow above you, you better let somebody love you before it's too late OR SCREW ALL THAT, WHO CARES ABOUT LOVE! LISTEN TO FILMSHAKE INSTEAD! It's the 4th of July, and we're talking 1995's Desperado, which seemed a hell of a lot cooler way back when the Eagles did their FIRST farewell tour, but now that they're on their 60th farewell tour, and Jordan and Nic are a lot older and wiser, does Antonio Banderas not aiming at anyone and still somehow perfectly bullseyeing bad guys who aim right at his chest and can't even hit him with shrapnel sandwiching a sex scene with Salma Hayek that plays like a parody of Last Tango in Paris still look cool? Let's find out together! Also, to hit on all of Robert Rodriguez' Mexico Trilogy (maybe we should have dropped this episode on May 5), we briefly talk 1992's El Mariachi and and even more briefly talk about 2003's Once Upon A Time in Mexico before engaging in a trivia battle that turns out even worse than 2003's Once Upon A Time in Mexico. Now it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table, SO QUIT RIDING FENCES AND LISTEN TO FILMSHAKE!Music Featured This Episode:"Back to the House That Love Built" by Tito & Tarantula"Canción Del Mariachi (Moreno de mi Corazón)" by Antonio Banderas and Los Lobos"Desperado" by The EaglesSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
Trust no one, except for Filmshake, the 90s Movies Podcast, as this episode we're covering 1998's The X-Files, aka The X-Files: Fight the Future.  Nic, a lifelong, diehard X-Phile, wants to believe that Jordan will enjoy this film, his first ever X-Files experience. Does Mulder and Scully's late 90s big screen foray hold up 25 years later? Also, even Nic can't put faith in 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe, this episode's punishment film. He does believe in Jordan, though, who fights for the ultimate trivia redemption in the episode-ending challenge. The Truth Is Filmshake!Music Featured This Episode:"The X-Files Theme" -- The Dust Brothers (originally by Mark Snow)"Threnody in 'X'" -- Mark Snow"Crystal Ship" -- X (originally by The Doors)"B.C. Sufferin succotash! It's 2023 and we're covering 1993's Hot Shots Part Deux, which means it's been 30 years since Charlie Sheen worked out nine hours a day for months to fire a rubber chicken from a bow and arrow.  Our guest, Doug McCambridge, from Good Times Great Movies also has to come along because it's a sequel. Doug, however, only wants to pass Part Deux like the world's largest kidney stone, so he can talk our punishment film, 1986's The Wraith, which Charlie Sheen did not work out nine hours a day for, but did film all his scenes in just one day as he was passing through town. You might not fall in love with weirdos who you've only known for four or five days, who collect baseball cards, and pee when they see the ocean, and have perfect table manners, but it's perfectly fine to fall in love with Filmshake, as we're talking 1999's Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone-starring romantic comedy, Blast From the Past.  After your two favorite podcast gentleman have a perfectly pleasant conversation about this sweet 'lil champagne cocktail of a film, they talk this episode's punishment movie, ANOTHER 1999 Brendan Fraser film, and not the one where he fights a sexy deceased man. That only leaves one film, and that film is Dudley Do-Right...which one of your hosts likes?Music Heard this Episode:"Adam & Eve Love Theme" -- Steve Dorff"It's a Good Day" -- Perry Como"Mr. Zoot Suit" -- Ingrid Lucia & the Flying Neutrinos"Dudley Do-Right of the Royal Mounties" -- Fred Steiner"Political Science" -- Randy NewmanSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
Let's say you're driving along with your family. You're driving along, you're driving along, all of a sudden there's a Filmshake in the middle of the road! Holy Schneikes, we're talking 1995's Tommy Boy and 1996's Black Sheep! It might've taken us seven years to graduate, we might have eaten paint chips and lived under power lines as kids, but we've got Ph. D.'s in 90's, and this episode is better than wearing white gloves while eating a ketchup popsicle. Music Heard This Episode:"Happy Ending" -- David Newman"Superstar" -- Carpenters"Main Titles" -- William Ross"It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" -- R.E.M.Support the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
Say what? You mean Nic and Jordan don't exclusively watch 90's movies? C'mon! They're dead to me. 90's 4 life. But I guess I might as well listen to this bonus episode where they get busy each making a list of their top five 80's faves, no matter how populist or blockbustery that might shake out to be. Between all these films covered, you'd have enough blue smoke, prosthetic makeup, and K-Y jelly to choke a xenomorph! Honestly, you could do that with just one of these films, but still. Lots of atmosphere here in these parts, be it wacky or just downright dystopian. The Harrison Ford love-fest also continues strong, but which movies will be chosen? Enjoy and let us know your top five 80's films! It ain't the 90's, but it pretty dang good!Support the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
What's this? A Best Picture nominee? How did this get in here?!This episode, just in time for St. Patrick's Day, Filmshake talks about an all-time 90's great, 1993's The Fugitive. Does it dye our river green? Does it do a Peter Pan right off our dam? Does it ride the elevated train into our hearts? Wait, who else is there with you, The Fugitive? Is that 1994's Leprechaun 2 as the episode-opening punishment film? Now that sounds like Filmshake.Music Heard This Episode:"Main Title" -- Jonathan Elias"Helicopter Chase" -- James Newton Howard"Kimble Dyes His Hair" -- James Newton Howard, ft. Magnolia. Fight Club. The Matrix.  Baby Geniuses? From possibly the finest year in film comes 95-minutes of cinematic  spit up. 1999's Baby Geniuses defies all convention and standards of decency for so many loads of diaper gravy, Jordan and Nic can do nothing but have fun with this bizarrely poop-obsessed patron request. Speaking of babies, our two Baby Geniuses-surviving hosts also talk 1993's straight-to-video baby dinosaur romp, Prehysteria!, for a few minutes, though this punishment film feels like Citizen Kane next to Baby Geniuses, the Citizen Kane of crap.Baby Geniuses ' poster may tout that "naps are history," but our diaper gravy-induced nightmares will last forever. Music Heard This Episode:"Prehysteria! The Ultimate Love/Skate Relationship might just be between Jordan and Nic, as they rather fittingly have a rather fiery argument about the 1992 romantic comedy, The Cutting Edge. One host thinks this film about bickering figure skaters who fall in love is the best romantic comedy he's ever seen, while the other just thinks it's a rambling, mediocre mess. Will our hosts reconcile by the end to win the gold, or will their anger boil over into an ice-melting inferno?!They also talk about not only 2006's straight to DVD sequel, The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold, but the The Cutting Edge 3 and The Cutting Edge 4...because one of them watched both of those too for some reason. The wintry war of words climaxes in the episode-ending trivia battle, where one of the questions is literally "At what minute and second mark does the alligator show up on screen in the Hallmark Channel original film, My Southern Family Christmas," because this is THAT kind of episode.Music heard this episode:"Finale" -- Patrick Williams"Ride on Time" -- Black Box"Kate Skates Alone" -- Patrick Williams"Apologize" -- Timbaland and One RepublicSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
You know, there's something very important that we need to do as soon as possible. F...ilmshake. Right before we ring in 2023, we're ringing every masked ounce out of Stanley Kubrick's 1999 swansong, Eyes Wide Shut.  No dream is ever just a dream, but is this movie a masterpiece, or is every touch of perceived meticulous genius just a meticulous aesthetic choice made solely for the sake of aesthetics? Also, we're talking 1983’s BMX Bandits, where a teenaged Nicole Kidman rides around with some bicycle blokes to fight crime. Only on Filmshake...seriously, only on Filmshake.Music Heard This Episode:"Musica Ricercata, II (Mesto, Rigido E Cerimoni Ale)" -- György Ligeti"The Dream" -- Jocelyn Pook"Masked Ball" Jocelyn Pook"Baby Did A  Bad Bad Thing" -- Chris IsaakSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
Hold it right there. I knew it was you. I could smell you getting off the elevator. While you're here, check out the latest Filmshake, where we're talking 1992's Home Alone 2 for that many hours. We could go on forever, baby! Our four-flushing carcasses also talk 1997's lousy, lying, lowdown Home Alone 3 for a minute, or rather, Nic does, as he lost the last trivia battle. Will he lose an unprecedented two trivia battles in a row? Maybe we're off our hinges, but listen now to find out!MERRY CHRISTMAS, YOU FILTHY ANIMALS! AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!Also, this is Home Alone 2 's 30th anniversary. 1992 was 30 years ago.Music Heard This Episode:"Main Titles" -- John Williams"Christmas Star" -- John Williams"Finale" -- John WilliamsSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
You know Filmshake. We're tall. We're kinda kinda tall. We're sorta tall. And we're like always wearing t-shirts. Sometimes. But this time, we're talking 1998's Can't Hardly Wait and Dead Man on Campus with author, Matt Pais. Matt talks his new book, Talk 90's With Me, and then we discuss these two kinda kinda shining examples of late 90's youth culture. It seems some of us really miss 1998.Speaking of miss, guess who loses the episode-ending trivia battle? He's tall. Were you planning on going to the school dance this Halloween? That's lame! You should throw a party in a disgusting, abandoned morgue on the outskirts of town instead!...or you could listen to Filmshake. We're talking 1994's Night of the Demons 2, where some stupid, horny teenagers decide to throw a party in a disgusting, abandoned morgue on the outskirts of town instead of going to the school dance. We also talk the original 1988 Night of the Demons, where some stupid, horny teenagers throw a party in a disgusting, abandoned morgue on the outskirts of town instead of going to the school dance. For no apparent reason, Nic also recaps 1997's Night of the Demons 3, and 2009's Night of the Demons remake, where some stupid, horny teenagers throw a party in a disgusting, abandoned morgue on the outskirts of town instead of...There's also the episode-ending trivia battle, which may be more horrific than every Night of the Demons movie combined.Special thanks to patron, Doug McCambridge of Good Times Great Movies, for requesting we cover this movie.Music Heard this Episode: "Stigmata Martyr" -- Bauhaus"Rapture" -- Morbid Angel"Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare - All)" -- Type O NegativeSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
The President recently declared the national pandemic over, but does he even 90s?! Doesn't he know we're just one South American spider away from an eight-legged army biting us all to oblivion? What about Motaba-infected monkeys that will always be there for you with a highly-contagious, eye-bleeding virus? Hasn't he ever watched 1990's Arachnophobia? Hasn't he ever seen 1995's Outbreak? Well we have, and we're here to talk about them with our bug spray and tranquilizer darts in hand...but will we use these implements of pandemic prevention on each other in our episode-ending trivia battle? Is humanity the real virus?!Only Filmshake can provide the answers to these questions.Special thanks to patron of the show, Chaz, for requesting these two movies.Music Heard this Episode:"Canaima Nightmare" -- Trevor Jones"They're Coming" -- James Newton Howard"Don't Bug Me" -- Jimmy BuffettSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
It's our Ninjasode! Even if we weren't a podcast where you literally can't see us, you literally wouldn't be able to see us because of the skills we learned from Jubei in 1993's Ninja Scroll, and Tone Loc and Rob Schneider in 1993's Surf Ninjas! We can throw ninja stars! We can make ourselves invisible! Wait, Jubei's actually a samurai and Tone Loc is just a rapping police officer? Rob Schneider doesn't even know karate?! We've been lied to!!!That's okay because this episode is awesome. Jordan and Nic talk about their history with anime, their anime favorites, and the two movies above. There's even a special "lightning round" version of their usual trivia battle. They might not be ninjas, but no one can argue against this fact: they are indeed podcasters...and you cannot see them.Special thanks to patron of the show, Anthony, for requesting these movies.Music Heard this Episode:"Hit the Coast" -- Tone Lōc"Pursuit" -- Kaoru Wada" Eight Warriors of the Demon Clan" -- Kaoru Wada"Somewhere, Faraway, Everyone Is Listening to a Ballad" -- Kaoru Wada"Death or Glory" -- The ClashSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
Executive Orders state that you must listen to Filmshake’s new episode on 1994’s Clear and Present Danger. You must fulfill your debt of honor and listen to Jordan Courtney and Nicholas Loup discuss this Harrison Ford action flick that Nic loves with the net force of a thousand Red Octobers. Listen without remorse as they briefly discuss how 2002’s The Sum of All Fears is not as good as Clear and Present Danger, then face off in a brutal trivia battle where either could end up dead or alive, as they fight with the fury of a bear and a dragon in their violent patriot games. Will there be six rainbows in the sky after their vicious battle to prove who is the real cardinal of the kremlin? Is this episode description making Tom Clancy roll over in his grave, or is his ghost recon just happy we didn’t try to shoehorn Armored Cav: A Guided Tour of an Armored Cavalry Regiment into it?Listen to Filmshake!Music Heard this Episode:"Main Title/A Clear and Present Danger (Film Version)" -- James Horner"The Ambush (Film Version)" -- James Horner"Second Hand Copter" -- James Horner"The Mission/If We Could Remember" -- Jerry Goldsmith"Truth Needs a Soldier/End Title" -- James HornerJoin our Patreon for bonus episodes!Follow us @90smoviespod on Twitter!Support the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
