I really want to like Wondery podcasts but there are SOOOOO many ads. What is the need!! no other podcasts I listen to have this many ads.
I know this episode really is not about the forgiveness kool-aid that is pushed on people who survive abuse and neglect. but it is uncomfortable listening to this woman saying she should have been persuaded to forgive her monster of a mother. you can make significant peace with a horrible human being, without the total self sacrificing compliance of "forgiveness", and I wish someone would have told her this. I wish someone would have told her that when a horrible person is dying, it may be the best possible thing to see them -- or it may be a painful horrible decision. but there is only one opportunity and the outcome is forever.

Great podcast! Wonderfully told. It's amazing how so many people were affected by Ike, and yet it's taken so long for it to reach this point. It's also disgusting how it took public attention of a podcast for the medical board to even investigate! One can only wonder of the lies and manipulation Ike inflicated on his family, for them to think the whole situation was normal!

Marty is the type of person cults,cons & scammers look for.Their radar screams from a mile away when they find these ppl,ripe for the taking. I wouldn't believe one word this skrink says. ofc he"s going to lie about his own involvement in this net of bull he scooped Marty in. Ike"s ego is EVERYTHING to him.If anyone knew what a creep he was it would be over. I hope to God Ike goes to jail. What on earth did Ike's wife think of this crap?
But I don't think there is enough checks and balances in the world of therapy to prevent future Ikes.

so I feel like this is turning into family drama/ soap opera rather than explaining what the psychiatrist did. like...we've really only heard about him a few times this far. this is very weird storytelling. not super impressed this far.

There is something very odd about Marty's account of things. This whole thing is hard to believe, but that just speaks to how terribly Ike exploited this clearly vulnerable person. I just really find Marty's narration a little lacking in insight and reflection... I wonder how he excelled in business and generally in his professional life if he were so eager for any supportive word from virtually anyone. But it's only episode 3!
I really enjoyed this podcast! I'm glad Marty was able to recover and reconnect with his family. I felt so bad for the women whose mother died 😔
