Description

In the Drunk on Writing Dissections, I review, analyze and just plain dig deep into a range of different topics and focus that have one thing in common: their, mostly, excellent writing.

For fun, there're also beer and liquor pairings!

The Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring THE RUNNING MAN proves not all adaptations are created equally: it's an entertaining, action-packed film with little to nothing to do with the original Stephen King novel. But, it might actually be the better story.----------------------------------------In the video, I mistakenly noted Steven E. de Souza's comment about Andrew Davis came from the Screen Anarchy interview. It actually came from an interview with “I Was There Too” podcast host Matt Gourley, as noted by /Film here: https://www.slashfilm.com/the-running-man-alternate-versions/Read or listen to the Screen Anarchy interview with Steven E. de Souza here: https://screenanarchy.com/2017/02/interview-the-running-man-writer-steven-e-de-souza-on-living-in-the-future-of-1987.html ----------------------------------------Brought to you in part through the patronage of Stephanie Brelsford, Ariya Norinth, and Karen and Andrew Pawlowski. The ending to Stephen King's CUJO is... well, depressing to say the least. But the adaptation took a different path. Is it the better take? That and more, including what the book is ACTUALLY about, are explored in the latest Stephen King Dissection.----------------------------------------Read the full Paris Review interview with Stephen King here: https://www.theparisreview.org/interviews/5653/stephen-king-the-art-of-fiction-no-189-stephen-kingRead Michael Collings' essay about Cujo here: http://michaelrcollings.blogspot.com/2015/06/stephen-king-cujo-retro-review.htmlRead Kealan Patrick Burke's take on Cujo here: http://www.stephenkingrevisited.com/cujo-revisited-by-kealan-patrick-burke/Order Lee Gambin's NOPE, NOTHING WRONG HERE here: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/nope-nothing-wrong-here-lee-gambin/1126677554?ean=9781629332697----------------------------------------Brought to you in part through the patronage of Stephanie Brelsford, Ariya Norinth, and Karen and Andrew Pawlowski.Become a patron now at patreon.com/drunkonwriting!----------------------------------------Get early shows, vote on what's published, and get exclusive behind-the-scenes updates at drunkonwriting.com!Follow along on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/drunkonwritinFollow along on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/drunkonwritin
Stephen King's DANSE MACABRE is part autobiography and part treatise on the evolution of the horror genre and its shining (and not so much) examples between 1950 and 1980.One part is great. The other... is... well, let's just say I've never been the best student.----------------------------------------Listen to "A Day at the Dentist's" here: https://youtu.be/j8m2iia-ATM----------------------------------------Brought to you in part through the patronage of Geoff Baum, Stephanie Brelsford, Kuong Chaing, Ariya Norinth, Karen and Andrew Pawlowski, and Kimberly Pawlowski.Become a patron now at drunkonwriting.com!----------------------------------------Get more shows more often along with exclusive content at drunkonwriting.com!Follow along on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/drunkonwritinFollow along on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/drunkonwritin
In this Drunk on Writing Dissection, I dig into my favorite movie of all time, OFFICE SPACE, including reviewing an Office Space-themed beer, looking at its origins and legacy, comparing it to a Herman Melville short story, reviewing its best scenes, exploring little-known Easter Eggs, and more!----------------------------------------Brought to you in part through the patronage of Stephanie Brelsford, Ariya Norinth, and Karen and Andrew Pawlowski. You wouldn't know it from the cover, but ROADWORK is one of Stephen King's most humanistic books yet, and one of his best. After the complicated recording of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, Freddie Mercury never revealed the true meaning behind it, and the remaining members of Queen are staying tight-lipped.So, what exactly is the meaning of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY? FIRESTARTER is one of Stephen King's best books, and features what may very well be the author's best, most nuanced villains, but it's marred by one of the worst film adaptations ever made. ---------------------------------------- Brought to you in part through the patronage of Geoff Baum, Stephanie Brelsford, Michael Brown, Ariya Norinth, Karen and Andrew Pawlowski, and Kimberly Pawlowski Become a patron now at drunkonwriting.com! ---------------------------------------- Get more shows more often along with exclusive content at drunkonwriting.com! 2018 marked the thirtieth anniversary of DIE HARD—arguably one of, if not the, best action films ever made. To celebrate this momentous occasion and the film itself, I thought it’d be cool to dig into why Die Hard works as well as it does, and how so much of that comes right down to the film’s writing. ---------------------------------------- Read the screenplay here: http://screencraft.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/die_hard_screenplay.pdf Read the Creative Screenwriting interview with Steven E. In THE DEAD ZONE, a freak accident gives Johnny Smith psychic powers, and a chance to avert a catastrophic nuclear war. At a terrible cost. What lessons can we take from this now thirty year old book for today's world?
