Description

Hosts Jaredith Mize & Bryce Kyle discuss theology, faith, and culture from an Apostolic perspective. This show tackles serious social issues such as race, poverty, gay rights, war, etc. We shy away from nothing.

This was the first discussion style podcast designed with the Apostolic Pentecostal movement in mind.

Jaredith is a UPCI minister, his dad was an ALJC pastor, and his great-grandfather was a PAW pastor, so his roots run deep in the Apostolic movement.

Bryce comes from a diverse background of faith experience. He grew up in the Baptist church and spent several years in a charismatic community church before coming to the Apostolic church. He is pursuing his minister's license as well.

New episodes release every week (let's be honest, we haven't hit that target in a while but it's still the goal)!

This was a difficult episode to record and it will no doubt be difficult to listen to. Especially if you followed the ministry of Ravi Zacharias and held him in high regard, as we did. It was recently revealed through allegations and a subsequent investigation by RZIM and a third-party law firm that Ravi had participated in an ongoing scheme of sexual abuse against multiple women. This news came close on the heels of his death last year from cancer. Please take the time to listen to the entire episode, including the victim's statement that we added at the end, and read both the statement from RZIM and the law firm's report on the investigation. Both of these documents will be linked below. Most importantly, let this begin a discussion in the church on how to prevent these kinds of tragedies in the future. Oneness believers have often been accused of being Modalists. This is not a new argument, it's been going on for nearly 2,000 years. Is this accusation fair? What exactly is Modalism?Do modern, Oneness Pentecostals actually believe in Modalism? We address these questions and more in this episode.Subscribe to our podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you listen to your podcasts. In this episode, we discuss one of the most controversial verses in all of Scripture, 1 John 5:7.We will be asking some tough questions but we want to do more than just give you our answers. We want to hear your take on this verse. What does 1 John 5:7 tell us about the Godhead? Does this verse support a Oneness or Trinitarian view of God? In this episode, we continue a previous discussion of the nature of God, specifically in regard to the doctrines of Oneness and the Trinity. We started this conversation back in 2019 but held off on releasing the rest of the series, due to our desire to give the subject the treatment it deserves. We are finally ready to have the discussion at length. In this episode, which is basically part 2 of the series introduction, we discuss some reasons why this series is necessary, both for our oneness and trinitarian listeners. As this segment of the Doctrine Series continues, we will discuss some of the nuances ofthe debate. We will look at some problematic scriptures, dive into a little textual criticism (can't wait for the backlash from that one...), and specifically talk about Modalism (and why we are not Modalists). This is kind of a big deal! Our podcast is a part of an exciting new media platform from the United Pentecostal Church that we think you all should know about.https://discipleshipcentral.com/en/
In this episode, we attempt to lay a groundwork for our discussion of the nature of God, specifically in regards to the doctrines of Oneness and the Trinity. We wanted to take the time to lay out our intentions because of the sensitive nature of the topic. It's too easy to use words as weapons when dealing with deeply held beliefs. We think that we can do better. As Oneness believers, we want to be taken seriously by Trinitarian believers and we believe that the inverse is true, as well. Too many times I've heard Oneness believers bash or ridicule Trinitarians or Trinitarians write us off as heretics or reject our beliefs out of hand. We believe that the time has come for a civil discussion of the issue and we want to be a part of that discussion. As this segment of the Doctrine Series continues, we will discuss some of the nuances of the debate and specifically talk about Modalism (and why we are not Modalists). Thanks to Myles from Portland, Oregon for suggesting that we cover that topic. You can find us on your favorite podcast app or on our website, 2pentecostals.com. Please reach out to us with any feedback, questions, or rebuttals. We want this conversation to go beyond the podcast and into social media and our listeners' everyday conversations. Doctrine Series: Orthodoxy

Doctrine Series: Orthodoxy

2019-07-2901:54:13

**CAVEAT** **We are very critical of some practices of the church and even more critical of some of the unBiblical aspects of church culture. It is not our intention to offend ANY of our listeners, whether Apostolics, other Pentecostals, Baptists, Catholics, etc. What we do want to do is challenge ALL of our listeners to rethink orthodoxy in light of Scripture. We are especially hard on Apostolics but that is only because we love the church we are a part of and want to hold it to the highest standard. We believe there is a Biblical precedent for this. When Jesus stopped pulling his punches it was with his people, whether his theological peers, the Pharisees ("...generation of vipers...") or the disciples ("...are you so stupid that you still don't understand?"). When Peter was siding with the Judaizers, Paul said, "I withstood him to his face." This is what we are trying to do; call the church that we love to a higher standard. We hope that we have done so with love.**In this episode, we take on the concept of "orthodoxy". We address several important questions in a longer-than-usual and somewhat meandering conversation. What is it? What are the problems that orthodoxy presents for a Bible-based church? As unorthodox as Apostolic Pentecostals seem, do we have our own orthodoxy? Is our orthodoxy Biblical or simply man-made dogma? There must be some value in the consensus of the church, which is basically what orthodoxy is, however, any human consensus can be wrong. We discuss the importance of putting any doctrine or dogma, no matter how widely accepted, to the test of Scripture. Since this episode is so long, we debated splitting it into two episodes, but there didn't seem to be a good place to split it. We hope you enjoy the conversation despite the length. The next episode is a special bonus episode where Bryce and Jaredith discuss some exciting news regarding their ministry. Also, over the next several months, the doctrine series will be interspersed with special interviews with Apostolic authors. So far, we have commitments from Bro. Carlton Coon to discuss his new book, Light in a Dark Place and Sis. Lori Wagner to discuss her new book, Through the Waters: The Life and Ministry of Evangelist Willie Johnson. Thanks for listening to part 2 of the theology discussion, which is just the beginning of our "Doctrine Series". In this episode, we continue our discussion of the importance of theology in the process of developing our personal conception of faith and in "working out our own salvation with fear and trembling". This is important stuff! Our Doctrine Series will continue next week with the first of a two-part discussion of "orthodoxy".You can find us on your favorite podcast app or on our website, 2pentecostals.com. This is the first full episode of our "Doctrine Series", which will make up most of the remainder of Season 2. Over the course of this episode and the next episode (part 2 of the theology discussion), we cover theological subtopics ranging from Systematic Theology and the Theological Method to Practical and Historical Theology. This is the study of God. The "Science of God" if you will. Can we cover this topic in two podcast episodes? Absolutely not. Are we gonna give it the old college try? You bet!Our Doctrine Series will continue next week with part 2 of this discussion of theology. You can find us on your favorite podcast app or on our website, 2pentecostals.com. Bryce and Jaredith have a discussion on new technology and the future of evangelism with their pastor, Larry Arrowood and his grandson Matthew Arrowood, who is also a minister in the United Pentecostal Church. This gives us a multi-generational window through which to view the advent of new(er) technologies (such as podcasting, Facebook live, etc.) and their impact on how we do evangelism as we plunge headlong into the 21st century. This is our first episode to be recorded in front of a live audience! We recorded this a couple of months ago at The Tabernacle in Seymour, Indiana. The pacing of the episode may feel a little different than usual, but we hope that you find some information or inspiration that will be useful in your evangelistic efforts!Let us know your feedback on the live recording format. We are considering doing more of these episodes in the future! Our Doctrine Series will continue next week. You can find us on your favorite podcast app or on our website, 2pentecostals.com.
