RIP to one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
October 16th marks the release of Tom Petty's 'Wildflowers & All the Rest' box set! 26 years since the release of the original LP the TEP crew releases the 10 songs that "didn't make the cut" , as well as all the 4 track demos that Tom recorded in preproduction ..and live versions of the songs that follow a 1995-2017 timeline!! Very much looking forward to this release!!
Ever experience that time where you're listening to a heavy or fast-tempo'd song and and you glance down at your speedometer - and you notice you are WELL over the speed limit?? Glen, Darci and Matt discuss their tales of being pulled over, accidents and ..near-misses in this mini-series of 'Songs to Speed To' !

This is a dense, layered, lengthy album full of challenging and complex songs.  I have been listening to this album, in sequence, for the entire past 12 months and am more high on it now than ever before.  It grows on you! Check out Dan Dubuque on youtube (he's the artist that performs 'Descending' in the intro/outro of this episode.
Pretty self-explanatory title.. On the same page as me??...not convinced? Have a listen - let me know what you think!
Pearl Jam - 'Gigaton'

Pearl Jam - 'Gigaton'

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER ...we finally give some time to the 11th studio album from Pearl Jam. Released March 22nd, a week or so after the world had changed; a global pandemic shut down everything as we know it. This is a great summer album - Pearl Jam always deliver these excellent 'road trip' albums. I love how polarizing the first single of the album was, too..'Dance of the Clairvoyants' ..
25 years ago today  Matthew Good Band released 'Last of the Ghetto Astronauts' , on a budget of roughly $5000 CAD - which went on to be the most successful independent release in Canadian history. Today we celebrate the 25 years of our favourite artist with a conjoined 'Top 10 Albums' list , between co-hosts Glen and Matt!!
Todd has returned and chosen his #9pick!! As Todd so eloquently pointed out his picks have all seemed to follow the same route of Glen not knowing the band or artist and I attempt to compartmentalize the pick and shove it into a category known as "Sonic : Modern Rock Radio" . MGMT has had a strange career that has followed a 'reverse climax' style trajectory...this album was HUGE and its crazy to think it was their debut!! ***** Todd bio : Award-winning Todd Anstett has brought the world 'VRS - Be Kind, Rewatch'. He is also a meteorologist located in East Coast Canada. A slightly younger perspective on the show leanings to more of a modern rock presentation.
Grey Daze - 'Amends'

Grey Daze - 'Amends'

As we approach the 3 year date of the tragic death of Chester Bennington - Grey Daze provides a look back into the beginnings of this incredibly talented musician... "Amends is an upcoming remix album by Grey Daze composed of Chester Bennington's vocals from the 90's over newly recorded instrumentals. "What's In The Eye" was released as the first “fan track” from the project on January 17, 2020 and was co-produced by Chris Traynor, Kyle Hoffman and Jay Baumgardner. The first single, "Sickness" featuring Page Hamilton and produced by Pete Nappi, was released on February 6th.[1] The release of the album was postponed from April 10th to June 26th due to the Covid-19 outbreak.[2][3] According to Sean, their distribution system was affected by the crisis and they thought it was unfair with fans who purchased physical copies to simply release the album digitally on the original date.[4] The band has no intention to tour without Chester or replace him with another vocalist and turned down every offer to play shows they got.[5]They are, however, open to the idea to do a tribute show with other singers if the right opportunity presents itself and it is done in a way that honors Chester." -linkinpedia Unreal vocals from Chester Bennington on this sleeper album!! It blew my expectations away.
For a certain kind of music lover, there’s nothing more alluring than a “lost” album. Unlike a record that was merely “scrapped” or “never released,” the term suggests something both mysterious and not worth losing—especially when that album is fabled to be particularly emotionally raw, and especially when the artist who created it is beloved precisely for his rawness, but also for his reticence. “Sometimes life hurts,” Neil Young wrote in a blog post announcing that he was finally releasing Homegrown, an album that’s something of a unicorn among the sort of fans who read his Times-Contrarian newspaper. “This is the one that got away.” -Pitchfork.com Fantastic addition to Neil Young's catalogue !! A must for any fan.
Todd brings Radiohead into the mix here - his introduction to Radiohead album being 2000's 'Kid A'. We discuss the musical evolution of Radiohead, as well as the similar voices that Tom Yorke and Muse's Matthew Bellamy seem to have - among many other Radiohead-related talking points! ***** Todd bio : Award-winning Todd Anstett has brought the world 'VRS - Be Kind, Rewatch'. He is also a meteorologist located in East Coast Canada. A slightly younger perspective on the show leanings to more of a modern rock presentation.
We are just shy of the 25th Anniversary of Matthew Good's 1st LP - "Last of the Ghetto Astronauts". So in a retrospective celebration Josh, Glen and Matt will be giving their Top 10 Matthew Good Albums in the coming weeks! The rules : EPs are excluded, no live albums...so 4 Matthew Good Band LPs (1995-2001) and 9 Matthew Good LPs (2003 - present). For those unfamiliar with Matthew Good - we apologize for the month+ of MG content , BUT definitely check this artist out if you haven't already ..you won't be disappointed. We will be getting back to the #10Albums format here over the summer!!
Glen and I list off our Top 10's for Matthew Good - spanning his amazing 25 year career ... There is only 2 songs that cross over on both of our lists, we also list off a few honourable mentions (oddly at the halfway point). Great content, lots of fun to talk about the career of such a talented dude!
Todd returns with another tremendous pick! Weezer released the dark LP in 1996 - 'Pinkerton' was a challenging/confusing rock-opera follow-up to the decidedly more whimsical 1994 Blue Album..which happened to be one of MY #10Album picks... We go into the album and what works about it, as well as the slow-burn, cult following this album seems to have gathered over time...and Todd and I can't resist taking a few more shots at what Weezer has become - not unlike Todd on the '2010s In Review' show from New Years Eve! ***** Todd bio : Award-winning Todd Anstett has brought the world 'VRS - Be Kind, Rewatch'. He is also a meteorologist located in East Coast Canada. A slightly younger perspective on the show leanings to more of a modern rock presentation.
Glen and I discuss the 25 year career of one of (if not) our favourite artists : Matthew Good. We'll be doing a 'Top 10 Songs' of Matthew Good in the coming weeks, as well as the 'Top 10 Albums' of Matthew Good. If you've never heard of this guy - you MUST check him out!!
Todd returns to continue his 15 month journey through his #10Albums! This time he brings Kings of Leon to the plate - with their 2008 bombshell "Only By the Night" which included the monster hits 'Sex On Fire' and 'Use Somebody'. Todd illustrates how this one was kind of a "one and done" album for his relationship with KoL, as well as how this album was a big part of travelling to a fro during high school. We also attempt to recollect how this band is related, and discuss how some bands in this era were more or less forced into an arena-rock format despite (probably) being much more effective in the smaller clubs. ***** Todd's bio : Award-winning Todd Anstett has brought the world 'VRS - Be Kind, Rewatch'. He is also a meteorologist located in East Coast Canada. A slightly younger perspective on the show leanings to more of a modern rock presentation.
