Description

On The DarkHorse Podcast, we will explore questions that matter, with tools that work. Weekly episodes of "The Evolutionary Lens" are co-hosted with Heather Heying, in which we use an evolutionary toolkit to reveal patterns in nature--including human nature. Other episodes will feature Bret hosting long form discussions. Some guests will be well known, others obscure, but all of them are chosen because they have demonstrated unusual insight. The state and future of civilization will be a recurring theme, so buckle up!

In this 69th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we begin by discussing power, race and social media, specifically regarding the app Clubhouse. We talk about how Covid outcomes are affected by preexisting conditions, such as obesity and hypertension. We ask: should children be vaccinated, and are the reasons being proposed to do so justified? We review a truly sexist obituary of an esteemed scientist, and ask what should be done about it. And we review a new finding in octopi. DarkHorse merchandise now available at: store.darkhorsepodcast.org Find more from us on Bret’s website (https://bretweinstein.net) or Heather’s website (http://heatherheying.com). Become a member of the DarkHorse LiveStreams, and get access to an additional Q&A livestream every month. In this 68th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.In this episode, we begin by discussing ice storms and electrical outages, and what it suggests about differing ecologies. We review Daniel Schmactenberger’s categorization of “1st, 2nd, and 3rd person epistemics”, and discuss what they suggest about education. Meanwhile, the NYT argues for skipping the critical reasoning and going right to the answer. Modern fact-checkers are an existential threat to civilization. The NYT also thinks that ClubHouse’s “unfettered” conversations are a problem. The House Committee on Energy & Commerce is having a(nother) meeting on misinformation with big tech CEOs. Also, a group of activists got Wikipedia to take down a page on the lab leak hypothesis. Peter Embarek of the WHO commission explains why the lab leak hypothesis is unlikely (or does he?). Another new paper suggests that lab leak should be the default hypothesis. And finally: dung beetles, and what else they can offer us besides cool field projects.DarkHorse merchandise now available at: store.darkhorsepodcast.org Find more from us on Bret’s website (https://bretweinstein.net) or Heather’s website (http://heatherheying.com). Become a member of the DarkHorse LiveStreams, and get access to an additional Q&A livestream every month. In this 66th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we begin by discussing what the increasing visibility of a viable hypothesis for the origins of SARS-CoV2 says about modern science and politics. Then: Is eating red meat inflammatory? Is saying that eating red meat is inflammatory, inflammatory? What would it mean for evolutionary biologists to “stay in their lane” (and why shouldn’t we)? What does “follow the science” mean when we are being told to wear masks in National Parks? Is the New York Times punking us, or did they seriously just suggest that encrypted messaging services are dangerous because untrue things are sometimes said? What is the null hypothesis—in general, and in particular, with regard to the origins of SARS-CoV2? Does Sony’s classification system of “human, animal and bird” make any sense, and does it matter? And finally: what are sidewinders and how do they move, what are mangroves, and what on Earth could the connection possibly be?DarkHorse merchandise now available at: store.darkhorsepodcast.org Find more from us on Bret’s website (https://bretweinstein.net) or Heather’s website (http://heatherheying.com). Become a member of the DarkHorse LiveStreams, and get access to an additional Q&A livestream every month. In this 65th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we begin by offering gratitude to Bill Maher and his crew for having us on on January 29—but why didn’t Heather answer his question about vaccines? She does so here, and we discuss a bit more about vaccine technology (also see episode 58 for more on that). Next: What does consensus look like in science, and when are we looking at forced consensus, one which may not accurately reflect underlying reality? What does this have to do with the “lab leak hypothesis” regarding the origin of SARS-CoV2? Following that: how does diet affect COVID—either in terms of mitigating risk of contracting it, or of reducing symptoms if you have it? Short advice: eat more ferment, and buy local. We finish by talking about tuna, and sea stars. In this 63rd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we begin by discussing impeachment, pardons, and the Federalist papers, taking lessons from America’s history. Then we discuss a new research paper that finds that asymptomatic COVID cases account for half of all infections—is the research well-done, the model founded, the conclusions warranted? We discuss the fact that Oceania (New Zealand and Australia) have implemented such successful COVID containment measures that they are delaying vaccinations for a bit. And we end with a tale of two bald eagles and their nest, speaking also to other birds and their nests—swallows, Steller’s jays, robins. In this 61st in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we discuss kambo, the poison of an Amazonian frog, which is being used by Americans who are seeking a purgative and possibly spiritual experience, but the people at the NYT once again reveal that they have no idea even how to speak science, much less assess it. From there, down the rabbit hole we go to a discussion of the different diets of four Amazonian tribes. We then discuss the politicization of science, in discussion of the COVID-19 vaccine from the Oregon Healthcare Authority, possible drug treatments for COVID, and a third, promising vaccine which is on the horizon. We also reveal that Ted Wheeler, mayor of Portland, has said some mean things about antifa. At the top of this episode, we reveal new “First Against the Wall Club” merchandise, and make a correction from episode #60, regarding the Evergreen locker room story. In this 59th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we discuss the CDC recommendations to engage in race-based vaccine distribution, the New England Journal of Medicine jumping the shark on sex and birth certificates, and the role of markets in journalism. We also pay attention to this moment in time: Chanukah, Christmas and the solstice, plus a reading from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. In this 58th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we discuss the COVID-19 vaccines, and what questions you would want to answer in order to understand them: Are they safe? Are they effective? If you survive COVID-19, what are the long-term health effects? We discuss what an mRNA vaccine is and does, and how the immune system functions (and fails to function). We also talk about what makes flies sexy. This guy’s use of the F word would throw me off damn near every time he said it, I’m not even sure why.

This particular episode is so refreshing because it's rare to hear well thought out ideas, concepts, and understanding that hasn't been cut off before the 'thing' fully develops. I am grateful for the Dark horse podcast... and the hosts. Please keep thinking!

I listen to every episode and there are many times that I wish I could take clips of your quotes and put it on my social media to share because you both explain things so clearly

The butthurt and griftery is maddening. Hey, if you guys were of the left, say 90s liberals, like myself, how come you totally non nefarious folks seem to never get up in arms about the daily actions of the very illiberal, dangerous, strong man currently holding office? I understand and do partake in battling identity politics, but is that all there is? Must you guys be so myopic? Can you see beyond Evergreen?

In reality what you want, is government cheese and the country to revert back to pre- Martin Luther King Era and a huge deficit projected nearly 12 times the national deficit under the Biden crime family. Your hesitation to speak at all in between conjecture leads me to understand that you DON'T understand what you're speaking about. If you want communism, go somewhere else. I didn't sign up, take the oath, take part in protecting your freedoms to a listen to victimized, ungrateful, single mindedness un-American like you.

Would love to hear what you think of this World Economic Forum (WEF) Great Reset and the “You’ll own nothing and be happy” mindset where we will all happily rent everything down to our clothes. And even more disturbingly the cast of “strange bedfellows” pushing this as a solution for a more equal and equitable post-COVID world.

Answering Heathers question ..from my experience, there was no wide spread hate of Obama. Definitely, disappointment. It took a while for it to sink in. During his state of the union address. my FB feed said things like..why is he talking etc. The hate began with Hillary and spread like wild fire.

I too voted for Obama first term..He broke my heart and destroyed my Republican parents finacial stabilty by a whole class. Upper middle class to barely affording the medical insurance let alone a prescription. The retirement portfolio was obviated. etc.etc. The Right stayed polite till they insulted us with Hillary. Yes us..Obama then Hillary sent me and many others towards the right. Trump just happened to be there. Thats when people started paying attention. dont give up on the Unity project.
